@GuyFawkesDay oh yes "why does she bark?! You didn't tell me she'd bark all the time!" Total exaggeration - she barks to go out for toilet and occasionally for attention or if she sees a shadow! Maybe if you interacted with her she wouldn't bark at you!

tizwozliz · 30/10/2021 08:54

I can't blame pup for a bad night's sleep, I'm full of cold and coughing. OH has an operation next week. Once that's out the way and we're all properly rested we're going to try and get her sleeping on her bed under the stairs. Keen to crack her sleeping on her own otherwise we'll never be able to leave her with anyone.

We heard our first fireworks last night, they made her sit up and listen but she didn't seem overly concerned.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 30/10/2021 09:29

Sorry about everyone else's sleep issues and DH issues. On reflection I think I might be blaming DH for more than his fair share. No idea why pup has suddenly changed sleeping habits but torrential rain last night and I suspect that is part of it. DH swears pup has been left in his crate even when he's slept in same room.

@tizwozliz do you do LFTs? Probably good idea if OH having op next week. My DD also having surgery and I'm trying desperately to avoid being anywhere near anyone and risking either being a contact or catching anything.

Puppies are blooming hard work....

Goawayangryman · 30/10/2021 09:53

Big sympathies for those of you with sleep issues... It's a killer.

@GuyFawkesDay yeah. I reckon if the puppy 'must' be downstairs then it must be your H who makes that happen. What a pillock if he would be happy to let you sleep in the bathroom or utility. Is he usually a dick?

Goawayangryman · 30/10/2021 09:56

I really would have a word with him. Resentment is a marriage killer.

tizwozliz · 30/10/2021 09:58

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse We don't normally do LFT's as both wfh but we got some in the week. OH has a PCR tomorrow prior to op and was getting a bit paranoid that it might come back positive but both negative. Not done anything but outside dog walking since Wednesday.

Regretting not taking pup out first thing, it was damp but just a bit drizzly, now it's lashing it down.

Camper82 · 30/10/2021 10:21

Sorry about the sleep and DH issues for those having them. I would have a word too, don’t let the resentment fester. My DH is good with him, but isn’t training the same as I am which will cause confusion down the line. If he’s biting he just says “Ow” over and over, whereas I will move away if he does it. And he doesn’t do loose lead on walks. I could go on but feel like I’m training him too which isn’t nice for a grown man.

Toilet training has gone backwards in our house. Took Camperpup out at 6.15,M did a wee and ran back inside. Then 2 minutes later back out for a poo. I made a cup of tea and spotted he’d silently done another poo and wee on the kitchen floor 🤦🏻‍♀️ He’s been having wee’s in the house this week a lot, no warning it’s going to happen and usually after we’ve been outside too. Going to try treating for all toilet efforts again and see if that helps. He’s very good orientated…

It’s very rainy here today so we won’t spend as much time outside.

@GuyFawkesDay I’m glad the boots are comfortable, I’ve asked for some for Christmas.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 30/10/2021 10:42

I think the DH thing is tricky if there is any hint of you wanted to have a puppy... not me about the situation. I suspect I'd be grumbling if I'd been reluctant and then the pup was causing me to lose sleep etc. However once decision made, it is a case of working together to make a success. Now, someone tell that to my DD who wanted a puppy and does very little towards having it... 🙄 DH is actually quite good on dogcare. Rubbish at training but does poo picking, walking and nightimes without being asked or complaining. I still have a nagging sense of guilt which is eating me

BaconAndAvocado · 30/10/2021 11:35

Fireworks started last night at midnight.
It woke me but didn't hear a peep from Newboy which surprised me as he's not usually keen on sudden noises.
DS2 looking after pup today whilst I'm at DD's football match and DH at work.
Will he tear himself away from his screens to feed/clear poo ??
We shall see.
DS2 was the most prominent member of the original Dog Quest movement but his crown has definitely slipped 🤨

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/10/2021 11:46

It was dh's turn to get up with the dog this morning and he's not happy at all. Pup had diarrhea overnight and managed to get it all over himself 🤮🤮🤮🤮. DH spent about an hour cleaning shit off the living room carpet(where puppy sleeps), the hallway carpet and the kitchen floor (which were affected when DH took the puppy outside from the living room), as well as wrangling puppy upstairs to give him his first shower. I believe some very choice words were said, and DH was possibly rather more fierce than he normally is. I, on the other hand, slept peacefully through all of this. No idea how I managed to sleep, as DH says he wasn't bothered about trying to be quiet about his displeasure.

Aria20 · 30/10/2021 13:12

@MsAwesomeDragon oh dear my DH would def have woken me up to deal with that. He's very much "she's your puppy"

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/10/2021 13:14

Oh no that sounds horrific! Do you think it’s linked to him being sick recently at all?

I haven’t given any cardboard to PoirotPup for ages but did today and forgot how happy it makes him shredding it 🤣

bargelights · 30/10/2021 13:19

That sounds like no fun at all @MsAwesomeDragon. How is the pup feeling now?

Sympathy for those with DH issues. My DH certainly pulls his weight with puppy care but sometimes I am frustrated by his different attitude to training. For instance he allows the pup to approach people when out walking which usually results in the pup jumping up on them. People say they don’t mind but he’s still a cute puppy. It will be different in a few months when he’s twice this size. I really don’t want him to get into this habit now, but it’s hard with DH undermining my efforts.

tizwozliz · 30/10/2021 15:38

My OH would like you all to know that he is officially sexier than a squirrel 🐿️ as he managed to recall Ada away from chasing one on our walk today Grin

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 30/10/2021 15:50

Lol @tizwozliz
We are definitely not sexier than a squirrel - terrier caught and dispatched another one yesterday 😦

Pup is behaving like an energetic toddler/teenager. He has three times, leapt on the bed (a first and this is a dog who flops two paws into the low flat car boot and expects you to lift his bottom in), was caught tossing a bottle of bleach around, counter surfing and has generally been stroppy and lost his boundaries.

GuyFawkesDay · 30/10/2021 16:31

Pup has had a ball in the park today digging in 6+ inches of leaves and chasing them. Shame the youngest DC is overtired after a party and cried a lot about everything!!! Argh!! Still he's recalling to "hamish, come!" And two whistle pips pretty reliably, including from another dog today. Lead walking was awful though 🤦‍♀️

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/10/2021 16:51

I have a feeling the diarrhea is linked to him finding something "yummy" to eat while out walking tbh. I watch him like a hawk but I can't always get him away before he eats stuff. He's a nightmare for trying to eat anything and everything.

We met a hedgehog yesterday evening and pup decided the best course of action would be to bark at it. He didn't think it looked edible but he was obviously concerned about it being under "his" tree.

Aria20 · 30/10/2021 17:14

@tizwozliz well done to your OH!

SirSniffsAlot · 30/10/2021 19:39

Dogs who are born so that their puppyhood happens during fireworks season tend to be less noise reactive when they grow up.

I just thought I'd offer those of you with puppies right now a little bit of good news Grin

Keep at it. Raising puppies is HARD work. Smile

Goawayangryman · 30/10/2021 19:45

Ddog ate about 200g of deer poo and half a chocolate biscuit today. She's snoring in the bathroom.. I'm dreading a night of dog vomiting ..

bargelights · 30/10/2021 19:46

The pup had a wonderful time running around a field today. We brought along a toy bow and arrow, and he enjoyed racing after the arrows as well as general frolicking. But when he had to go back on the lead he became something of a nightmare: jumping up, grabbing the lead. It’s becoming a pattern, unfortunately. As long as we walk on pavements he does very well with loose lead walking. If we’re in a park or other exciting location, he seems to lose his mind temporarily. He even ignores treats, and this is a pup that is very food motivated.

Goawayangryman · 30/10/2021 19:46

Ever so distressed....

Goawayangryman · 30/10/2021 19:49

@bargelights ours ignores food treats as well. And she is a famed greedy breed.

Is it bad that pup has driven us so mad for the past hour that we've put him in his crate? He's got ostrich bone plus a nice new chew. He needs to settle and needs a sleep.
