Starting the new thread with sandwichpup refusing to go out for a wee in the rain before bedtime and up in the night several times....

also he continues to jumpy up all the time and endlessly biting, its quite wearing after lack of sleep

Marking! And sympathy!

Thanks for thread….

bargelights · 21/10/2021 14:35

Thanks for starting a new thread. At the end of the last thread I mentioned that my puppy seemed to be unsettled when we slightly changed his morning routine yesterday (DH did took him out first thing and fed him, which I usually do). He was a bit of a nightmare for the rest of the morning, jumping up and nipping. Today we went back to normal and he was chilled and fine, playing with his toys and snoozing as he usually does at this time of day. Has anyone else noticed that slight changes in routine can have this sort of effect?

Goawayangryman · 21/10/2021 15:22

Yep to changes of routine in the sense that if we have exciting visitors, and men in particular, she goes bonkers and is liable to hoon around the house for a while afterwards. Serious FOMO, will not go quietly into her crate etc etc.
And thanks for the new thread. Reminded me to play the fireworks desensetisation playlist again. Loudly!

I think we’re quite a busy house and no day or week is the same so don’t think we’ve managed a routine of any kind 🤣

Anyone else golf older dogs/pups. At 8 months we’re back to jumping up, a bit of mouthing again (although less sharp teeth phew!) and a bit more unsettled, not quite what to do with himself. Trainer said it’ll last about 5 weeks then start to settle a bit. Just wondered if anyone had been through it and if any tips? We’re upping walks and sniffy walks as I’ve read they have a hit more energy to burn in this period, he’s a bit more food obsessed so we’ve retrained settling on mat or floor when we eat. Trying to up the brain games, and do more bursts of training but with things we know he can be successful with as feel he gets frustrated otherwise not having the patience to work out what we want!

tizwozliz · 21/10/2021 16:17

Like MrsHerculePoirot we don't really have much of a routine. Nap on the sofa in the evening and last wee before bed is about as close as we get, but meal times and walks aren't particularly consistent.

Need to start checking the temp before going out for walks in the morning, ten degrees colder this morning than yesterday morning and my feet were freezing.

Have enjoyed hunting out some other walk locations this week whilst we're trying to avoid places with lots of dogs. Found some good spots that I'll continue going to. Ada had lots of fun diving in and out of the rows of corn 🌽

As she was already in our bed the wind last night didn't bother her. We went to bed at 9.30 and got up at 7 Smile

Aww gorgeous pic @tizwozliz ! We don't have a big routine either, it is a bit weather dependent in terms of time of day we go for walks - I started out trying to do early walks at 7.30pm then 5ish/6ish but he really doesn't do well when it is windy and raining! He literally sat and refused to walk when it was really bad bless him! Also he is still not that interested in eating which doesn't help...

The weather is so lush today - blue sky and fresh! So about to head out and make the most of it!

I would upload a pic but for some reason it isn't letting me on the app Hmm

Aria20 · 21/10/2021 17:14

Thanks for the new thread.

@MrsHerculePoirot we are 8 months too and the recall is basically gone, bit of jumping up and caught her trying to gnaw a door frame quickly redirected to her coffee wood chew. Also think she is about to come on her first season, I've been watching closely and noticed her licking herself a lot earlier and a little swelling so any time now!!

Aria20 · 21/10/2021 17:21

Pup knows she goes for a walk when I get back from school run and today it got to 9.30 and I hadn't taken her out and she was barking at me and pulled my slipper off and kept looking at the door

bargelights · 21/10/2021 18:01

My previous dog had a very brief period of adolescent rebellion. Although my current puppy has been extremely easy in many respects, I imagine he may challenge us when he becomes a teenager!

Goawayangryman · 21/10/2021 18:43

I reckon mine is going to be a challenging teen. She is quite stubborn and determined. But I luffs her.

GuyFawkesDay · 21/10/2021 18:59

FawkesPup is being very cute today. Even DH (who was very anti dog) took him on his first longer wander to the independent cafe he likes. It's about a 35 minute round trip so naughty length.... but he did get a rest in the cafe halfway, an oat milk puppacino and a bit of DHs sausage roll!!!! This was all DHs idea too. I think he may have been won round by the pup 😂😂😂😂

Doggo also finally mastered lie down. Hurrah. Only took til 19 weeks 🙄

He is still clawing at his crate at 5am though after a loo trip (why the early poo trip dog, why??!!) to snuggle with me. I am so tired I just got the sofa and let him sleep in his little bed next to it so I am reinforcing it but I can't let him howl/scrat through it at 5am on workdays.

Thanks for the new thread!

We’ve had our first trip to the beach today! Very windy and floppy ears blowing in the breeze! Lots of sniffs to sniff and people to have fuss off. Walked a bit too far though, I think as we went in a cafe for late lunch and he fell asleep immediately. Will have a much more relaxing day tomorrow to make up for it.

He absolutely loved the beach though and wasn’t bothered by the crowds and noises in the town. We’re in a rural village so it’s very quiet where we are and I worry that he doesn’t get enough time in busy areas, but was fine today so that’s a good start.

Lovely pics @GuyFawkesDay and @tizwozliz

GuyFawkesDay · 21/10/2021 19:50

Oh @567and your pup is SO cute!!!

Thanks for the new thread @sandwiches77

TheBigMacDougal · 21/10/2021 20:17

Yay for the new thread!

3rd trip to the vets for Mac pup today as he’s still not on his good and poos are just water 😩. Vet gave him some royal canin food which he is obviously demolishing and ate all the treats while haws there too 🤦🏼‍♀️. I don’t really understand why the vets give such nutritionally poor food, I wasn’t inclined to take it.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 21/10/2021 21:29

Last puppy class tonight and I find it just too much after a manic day at work. Glad it's ended. She thinks he might be approaching adolescent (he's 19 weeks?) and that explains why we are getting walk refusals 8n the dark and rain and might also explain his increased nightime needs.

tizwozliz · 21/10/2021 21:45

Rightly or wrongly I'm not expecting adolescence for a while yet. I'm sure I've heard there should be a nice stage between naughty puppy and naughty teenager that we get to enjoy

GuyFawkesDay · 21/10/2021 22:14

Hahaha I hope I get that stage too (found the little sod chewing the door frame earlier) 😩

Aria20 · 21/10/2021 22:17

Clever pup passed her kennel club good citizen silver award!! Had practiced loads this week and she had a longer afternoon walk so she wasn't all hyper there tonight!

Aria20 · 21/10/2021 22:19

@tizwozliz there was a nice phase but the teenage recall rebellion started at about 7.5 months... I'm hoping it's short lived and now I think heat is due to start any time she'll obv be on short lead pavement walks for a few weeks anyway and hopefully after that we can practice recall again!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/10/2021 22:34

@tizwozliz lasted about 2-3 months for us I’d say! He’s a lab if it helps…. I say signs started at about 7 months and by the time 8 months hit it was deffo a thing…

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 22/10/2021 07:13

That suggests it's not adolescence then. She kept saying he's a bit older isn't he which probably reflects the fact there's a lab pup 2/3rds the size of him and one week younger.
