The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

@GuyFawkesDay yup that’s what happened with Billy. Once day we just noticed that he no longer nipped.

MightyMeerkat · 02/10/2021 22:29

That's great @GuyFawkesDay

Toilet training is getting better here too. I'm still taking pup out to the toilet every hour or so although Pup's new trick is to run off down the garden to play - especially annoying at 11pm or 4am! It's really hard to know when she wants the toilet and when she just wants out of the house. I might have to start taking her out on lead at night

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 02/10/2021 23:33

I'm frightened to admit toilet training has been relatively easy. Think I've had three x indoor poo and that's all. Kitchen floor was a target for a wee but the clothes airer sorted that.. I suspect my pup is 18-20kg at 4 months. He gets more than the recommended 2o minutes. I do try to limit it but get carried away

AwesomePup has been sick 3 times overnight. Each time he's tried to eat it again afterwards, and he seems ok in himself, but it's a bit worrying. We've decided that if he's sick again at all today we'll ring the emergency vets.

TheBigMacDougal · 03/10/2021 08:10

Trip to the emergency vets for us yesterday evening. We had to leave him for a couple of hours while we had my sons birthday party, came back and he was wobbly. Seemed entirely himself, playing eating, pottering around but just wobbly and moaned a couple of times. Vet found nothing other than a bit of a raised temp and said he could have got a chill from his walk earlier in the day ☹️

He had a great time in the vets, belly rubs, and treats while I sat and worried in the car.

Any coat and towel recommendations? I always dry him off and try to get him warm when we’ve been out but maybe not enough.

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 08:15

@TheBigMacDougal we got a dog dressing gown off Amazon for after baths or wet walks it's wraps around them with Velcro. She hated it the first few times but tolerates it now but doesn't keep the good part up which is a shame as spaniel ears could do with being kept dry and warm!

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 08:30

Here she is in the gown - the hood didn't stay on for long!

I've just been on the phone to the vet and he's not worried about pup vomiting just yet. 4 vomits since about 9 last night, consistently 2-3 hours after he's been fed. But he's eating, drinking and doesn't seem to be in any discomfort other than when he's actually vomiting. They've said to just feed him bland food and see if it stays down. If he gets any worse I'm supposed to call back and take him in to be seen.

TheBigMacDougal · 03/10/2021 09:32

@Aria20 that is exactly what we need. DH said he had one in the Amazon basket by the time we got home yesterday ❤️. Will check it’s similar!

Not sure about coat when out walking but I know we’ll need a hi-via one for winter so might try to double up if we do and make sure it’s waterproof.

TheBigMacDougal · 03/10/2021 09:34

@MsAwesomeDragon it’s awful when they’re not right isn’t it. Hope the bland food stays down.

I was cursing myself in the car yesterday as just the day before I was thinking how well we’d done that he’d been completely sound the first few months. Won’t count my chickens again for a while now!

BaconAndAvocado · 03/10/2021 10:48

Had a mini breakthrough last night!

I took Newboy out for a poo at 10:30 . I took him to the "pooing area" of the garden (one side wee, one side poo) and he managed to do the deed.
He then went straight to his crate to bed and went up to bed.

I set the alarm for 4am and when I came down the kitchen was poo and wee free!!! The first time that's happened since I moved upstairs about a week ago!!!

He and I both went back to sleep and when DH got up at 6 there was a wee on the puppy pad which I'll take as a good result!!

Feel like it's coming together a bit more now and on Wednesday we can get out for proper walks 🙌🏻

BaconAndAvocado · 03/10/2021 10:50

DS1on Newboy's first visit to the park yesterday before the heavens opened!

Oh look at him!!

Hope AwesomePup is feeling better today @MsAwesomeDragon how worrying for you

I am getting a ruff and tumble drying coat for FawkesPup as his Xmas present. They come highly recommended from my cousin who has them for all their working dogs.
He's got a little raincoat from the joules clearance I use for wet walks mainly for my benefit as it means just drying paws and head at 7am. Here he is, doing his best model pose 😆

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 11:29

@GuyFawkesDay I got pup the same one but had to send back as couldn't get a good fit, small was too short and medium way too big. I was gutted as loved it! We have a waterproof regatta one for now but it's not a warm one...

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 03/10/2021 11:30

Makemepup swam in the sea for the first time today!! He's been happy going in to shoulder height but today learned lift off and actually swam. Nice sunny morning so he was nearly dry when we walked back to the car but I will need to look for a coat for colder days.
@BaconAndAvocado getting out for walks makes all the difference

We're going to the vets at 12. He's still vomiting but it's now just bile coming up, and he hasn't had a drink since 6:30 this morning, poor boy. The vet says he can have an injection to stop the nausea, as it's obviously making him feel awful.

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 11:40

@MsAwesomeDragon poor thing did he eat something? I hope he feels better soon!

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 11:41

Mine was sick this morning but only a tiny amount after she licked the lid of my yoghurt so hopefully it was just that

BaconAndAvocado · 03/10/2021 11:59

MsAwesomeDragon hope your pup feels better soon, poor thing.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse Yes, and I’m looking forward to mapping out a bit more of a routine for me and Newboy.

Haven’t enjoyed these past few weeks of semi lockdown tbh.

LadyCatStark · 03/10/2021 12:11

Hope he’s OK @MsAwesomeDragon

tizwozliz · 03/10/2021 12:20

We have a ruff and tumble coat. They're quite expensive if your pup is still growing but I took the plunge as the size Ada is in will fit a full grown cocker spaniel so can pass it on when she outgrows it. She looks adorable in it

MightyMeerkat · 03/10/2021 12:28

Hope your pups are okay @MsAwesomeDragon And @TheBigMacDougal

Drying coats are great. I bought an inexpensive one from Amazon and she's outgrown it already so will need to get another. Has anyone tried a drying bag, a zipped bag with just a head hole? I also have some micro fibre towels which are good for drying paws as they dry quickly and are lightweight

MightyMeerkat · 03/10/2021 12:29

@GuyFawkesDay Love the coat! Can I ask what size you bought please?

GuyFawkesDay · 03/10/2021 12:38

I bought a medium, it's a bit big but I figured he can grow into it like my kids do 😆

Last round the corner from me made her own drying bag from a cheap sale bath sheet, sewed up and put a zip in it. Now I don't have a sewing machine but if I did it seems a good way of making one on the cheap.

The shop I get FawkesPup's food from sellf ruff and tumble so I'll go and gauge sizing but looking at the cockers we were with yesterday I don't think he's going to get a huge amounts taller and bigger now. Reckon he's about 2/3 full size at 17 weeks? Got to start tapering his food off now so he's on adult portions at 6 months.

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2021 12:58

AwesomePup has seen the vet. He did a huge poo on the waiting room floor Blush and I didn't even have any poo bags with me. The vet didn't even bat an eyelid, just said well at least we have normal faeces. He's had an anti nausea injection and has some digestive function paste to take for a few days. We have to keep him on rice and chicken for a few days and take him back if he doesn't get any better.
