Neighbours from the past, A large black fluffy female poodle called Brenda, who was bad tempered and snappy towards most people. And a little miniature , male, sweet natured dachshund, called Maxmillian.
I had a rescue dog from the RSPCA in the 1970,s. It was in the days, when you could just walk in, and choose a dog that you liked the look of. The dogs were all strays, and could stay in this place for about 7 days. before they were put to sleep if not claimed, or someone went to choose one.. I chose a nervous looking Jack Russell terrier, who looked like he had been very ill treated.
The old man who was in charge of looking after the dogs, had given all the dogs a name, and the terrier I chose he had named MISTER.
I left the place with the dog, and the man gave me a little battered lead for the dog, and I just had to leave a donation for the RSPCA, which the old guy said £3 would be enough.
Anyhow, despite me feeling a bit silly, calling out MISTER to my dog when out and about, as though I was calling a man, he turned out a wonderful dog in my family, for many many years, and was great with my young son then, and with my daughter when she was born four years later.
