Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

Anyone else suffering in this heat? I can't wear anything that shows my calves due to the bruises and bite marks from Elmpup.

I just embrace the scratches 😂. I love the heat but Billy is too hot. I wanted to take him to the pet shop at lunch to to buy him a pizzle (it’s not as hot up north) but he didn’t want to go and looked uncomfortable so we came home. He’s now flopping about all over the wooden floor but he’s certainly been more calm today so please can it be hot every day??

We got a paddling pool yesterday so I've had my feet in that this morning. Now chilling on the sofa, pup on her cool mat. Trying to find something to watch. Won't go out until late ( if at all )

Anyone else finding their pup is too warm to be hungry?

@MightyMeerkat I’m so excited to be on the countdown to taking him out on a walk! Although I had read on the internet 5-7 days after jabs for going out, so had planned on Sunday but vet said at least 7 days so bit miffed about that. Definitely feeling more relaxed now he’s been vaccinated, wormed and fleed. First few days outside in the garden I was following him everywhere just in case he licked something or ate a slug!

@GuyFawkesDay those bags are so nice. I hadn’t though further than lead and harness (one of which too big, one of which too small, so hoping third time lucky!). I definitely need to sort a dog walking bag out.

@LadyCatStark 🤢 at the dog whistle falling in the 💩 ! 😂 May be sterilise/boil a couple of times just to be sure!

I love the heat, but our garden is half building site and 567pup just doesn’t want to be out there so I’m inside with all the doors and windows open.

Welcome @BaconAndAvocado! Maybe we were just super lucky but Spudpup (also a lab) is a good sleeper - I think being a little larger helps as they have better bladder capacity to get through the night, perhaps?

@LadyCatStark The whistle-poop collision is a rite of passage 🤢 Do not, I implore you, ever be tempted to put a full poobag into a bag which also holds your keys. This does not end well, trust me on this 🤢🤮

Spudpup has just had a very jolly time attacking me and my foam roller while I tried to work some of the lactic acid out of my legs. He managed to tip me right over backwards, the little villain He’s now asleep on the kitchen floor - it’s boiling here! 27°c, no wonder my legs are a state!

He's not eaten as much today but I'm putting that down to the heat.

Thanks for tips on training sessions all.
I'm aiming at 3 5 minute sessions each day.

It's Day 4 here and so far he can sit, I think he knows his name, doesn't get Drop It at all!

Mac pup is feeling the heat and so am I! We went on a walk this morning when it was much cooler so won’t take him again as tried the other evening about 7.30 and he got wappy and nippy, so a bit too much for him 😳

It is lovely that he’s mooching about and not being as much of a bother in the warm though.

Also, I actually got him to walk nicely on lead yesterday in the garden! Only a few steps at a time, but so much better than a couple of weeks ago. Bring on the puppy classes!

DH admitted today that he sometimes resents the dog as he takes my time. Not like the kids haven’t been doing the same thing for the last 8 years… I wouldn’t mind but it’s the bloody kids that wake me in the night and get me up on a morning. At least the dog sleeps! 🙄. I need to encourage him to bond with Mac pup, but as he was the reluctant party I’m not keen to push hard. Selfish turd (DH not dog).

Whispers to those with not so keen DHs. Mine was the same at the beginning but is now smitten and is so protective of BiteyDog.

My DH does interact with Mac pup and likes it when he falls asleep at his feet in the evening. I think he just wants to make a (childish) point about all the extra work I’ve given myself as he’s ‘not going to do anything with the dog’ 🙄🥱

Sandwichpup was sold to us as a cockapoo but as he is getting older he looks more spaniel, not that I mind, love him to bits even though he gets super bitey at times. Had an awful night with him last night, he would not settle, not sure if the heat or he was being a bit of a monkey

@opalescent cool mats! One in Pup's crate and one on the floor for Dog, he usually sleeps on our bed but hops off if he gets hot onto the mat.

My DH is slowly thawing too. Helps that FawkesPup is a proper cuddler.

I made Pupsicles earlier. Used an old ramekin, spray oil and then cling film to line it. Used some no salt chicken stock, kibble, carrot, a few treats and a teaspoon of sardines broken up. Frozen and oh my word, he LOVED it. He's been in his paddling pool a few times today too. Takes himself in, gets wet, out, lie down and dries out.....repeat.

I'm using just a basic fleece offcut and a damp towel in his crate at night.

Last night I took the cushions out of pup’s bed and just put a blanket in that he could push out of the way. I also took off the cover to let the air blow through and I didn’t restrict the water until very late on to make sure he wasn’t too thirsty.

I know we have a cool mat somewhere so will dig that out. Am a bit worried about him chewing it when I’m not there though. Might try him on it an hour or so before lights out.

DH was also the last to be persuaded to get a dog, but once he’d decided he was ready he’s been more than happy to chip in. Took us over a year to get him on board though!

It’s cooling down here now so hopefully Billy will be cool enough tonight. He’s just had a little walk round the block and that was enough, no running tonight!

AwesomePup had his first day at daycare today. I dropped him off at 8 and collected him just after 5. He's had a good day, as I can see by the photos, and he's now completely knackered!!! Apparently he played all morning with his new puppy friends, then chilled out this afternoon and even had a nap. He fell asleep on the way home in the car, it's only a 5 minute ride home. Sound asleep beside me on the sofa.

This is good to know! Don't think DH realised that I would be camping out down stairs for a while with Newboy. DH not so happy. Whereas, although I'm getting a lot less sleep, I'm not missing his thunderous snoring 😁

I know mine chews coolmats so a dampened old towel is what he gets and we have a chiller fan on upstairs too (you fill it with water and it cools the air) so it's not too horrific up there and he slept loads better without his big bed in the crate so I will leave it out until the nights get chillier.
