Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

Oh I could definitely get his bigger crate in DSs room....!!

That said, I'd prefer him downstairs. We e got a pen and tbh he's been great so far chewing legit things not furniture as he's got about eleventy billion chew toys etc to suit his every whim.

It's the gradual withdraw from me as he's a right mummy's boy!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 23/09/2021 16:35

Just had him weighed...16.4kgs at just under 16 weeks. When do they stop growing ?

Blimey, my 12wo pup was weighed yesterday and only 5kg. I hope he's ok!

All my 'real life' dog friends are very much tough love/old school. @BaconAndAvocado do what feels right for you. Sleep deprivation is no joke.

Are you sure that's correct, 5kg for a 12 week old lab is tiny.

I think they say for labs a kg a week is average until they're 6 months, then they slow down and reach their adult weight by first birthday. Do you know how big his parents are? There are sites which will predict their adult weight. Ada is currently following a line that would put her the same sort of weight as her mum as an adult.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 23/09/2021 18:12

@BaconAndAvocado is yours a lab cross? Mine has as @tizwozliz said grown a kg a week. 6 months will be 26kg 😲

cheeseisthebest · 23/09/2021 19:05

I've tried tough love, just barked for hours. He's just been squeaky barking right in my ear, ignored him and eventually stopped. He really needs a sleep but won't go!

We went out for an earlier walk today; I didn’t have a choice anyway. Billy saw me hanging up my car keys and decided we were going out in the car so he ran to the front door and sat down 😂. It was a bloody chilly walk, I’m going to have to invest in some decent gloves soon! I think this is actually better anyway as he had his tea at 6, a nap til 7 and now he’s up and chewing and watching David Attenborough. I’d much rather have him up with us in the evenings than sleeping in his crate.

DH currently trying to tire out Newboy in the garden!

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/09/2021 21:20

AwesomePup is incredibly excited today. I've been in bed with covid since Sunday and he's been left in the tender care of DH. Today I feel well enough to come downstairs and he is beyond excited to see me. I'm a little concerned about what he's got used to while I've been ill, like DH has been sleeping downstairs with him again (to avoid my covid germs) and they've been snuggling all night. And I'm sure he's been fed a lot more dinner scraps than I would have allowed. But DH has really bonded with him this week.

GuyFawkesDay · 23/09/2021 22:01

FawkesPup a total twat tonight. He's big enough to jump on the sofa now 😩

I've been out at open evening so didn't get home til nearly 9pm so poor doggo hadn't seem me all day and he was bonkers. Took him for a nice slow sniff round the block and leg stretch. Having calmed down a bit he's crashed out now but he's been so bastarding bitey.

And has sloppy poo again....can teething cause this?

Returnoftheowl · 24/09/2021 00:12

I've just done one of those estimate your dog's adult weight calculators... Pup will be around 57kgs when fully grown Shock

😯 someone has sold you a small horse by mistake surely?
MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/09/2021 08:22

@GuyFawkesDay I think teething gets blamed for an awful lot but surely sloppy poo cannot be linked.

@MsAwesomeDragon glad you are feeling better and yes the house will have run feral 😆

Pup asleep on the sofa beside me. It makes me laugh that this huge great lump cannot easily get on. It is like his back legs are paralysed (Ivan the boneless in the vikings anyone?) and he drags them onto the sofa

Wolfcub · 24/09/2021 08:38

Is anyone feeding Acana puppy? If so what do you think of it? Considering a swap

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2021 08:42

Well, DH running around the garden with Newboy last night made zero difference.
He went to his crate at 10 and woke at 11?!?!
I took him outside where he just sat on the patio......which tells me he's not waking for a legitimate reason other than a bit of attention!!

He woke again at 3 and did do a wee in the garden.

Definitely time for some tough love now 😂

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/09/2021 09:23

@BaconAndAvocado once I'd established pup had finished in the garden (basically kept him out there until wee and poo complete) I then stayed in the living room with him directing him back to his crate repeatedly but never cross with him. Always happy and isn't it a lovely place to be!

He would then whine to come out and I'd repeat and repeat.

troppibambini6 · 24/09/2021 09:48

Retuenoftheowl wow that's a big dog!!!

Sleep deprivation is definitely no joke! We got super lucky bambinipup settled on the 3rd night. He likes his crate now and sleeps 11-7.

He's 10 weeks today off for our jabs at 10.30.

Anyone got any tips for toilet training? At the moment we are taking him out loads and giving a high value treat when he goes. He seems to favour two areas inside and I'm wondering about putting down a puppy pad there and slowly moving closer to the door?
Or are puppy pads teaching them to wee inside?

cheeseisthebest · 24/09/2021 10:03

He settled on his own at 10pm and slept until we got up at 7! I slept in my own bed and he didn't make a sound!
Really hope he keeps it up. When we came down I opened crate and he was quite happy there for about 10 minutes yawning and stretching.

I need to sort out the downstairs sleeping.
Little toad woke at 2 and 5. 5am he needed a poo and he had a small wee at 2 but I think he just wanted a cuddle. I was out til late and he was totally attached to me once I got home.

opalescent · 24/09/2021 10:31

@cheeseisthebest 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 fab!! Is that the first time he's done all night? Long may it continue.

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2021 10:34

MakeMeCleanTheHouse
He's fine with going into his crate for sleeps and there's never any whining.
He just doesn't stay there long enough!!

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2021 10:36

cheeseisthebest oh wow! That's fabulous, really pleased for you 😊

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2021 10:37

cheeseisthebest am I right in thinking that your pup is 16weeks?
