Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

@BaconAndAvocado He went to his crate at 10 and woke at 11?!?! I took him outside where he just sat on the patio......which tells me he's not waking for a legitimate reason other than a bit of attention!!

This will all settle down once you get to go on walks. He's maybe just not that tired. Our pup was a demon who did not sleep at first, and it was amazing how much the walks settled her and tired her out. I kept reading about how much sleep puppies need but mine clearly hadn't read the same books. When he goes into his crate at 10 do you go upstairs/turn the lights off if you're in the same room?

@GuyFawkesDay I think teething can cause diarrhoea, something to do with swallowing excessive amounts of saliva or something? It may be an old wives tale but we definitely noticed a link.

TheBigMacDougal · 24/09/2021 11:34

@GuyFawkesDay Mac pup is also now big enough to jump on the sofas and has tried every night this week. I think the boarders he went to had him up with them on the sofas as he’s never tried with us 🤦🏼‍♀️

Mac is due a wormer and need to get him weighed later! Both excited to find out how much he’s put on as he’s definitely filled out and dreading what size sprocker he may end up being!

We went for a lovely walk this morning to my favourite place. He was really enjoying himself and all the new sniffs, practised recall, and taking him on and off the lead. It was great, then we got 20 meters from the car, he dived through a gap in the hedge to chase something and ended up in private fishing river… 😱 mortified. Thank god no one was around to see!

Think we need a gundog trainer or one with breed experience, as his prey drive is obviously high so I want to make sure we direct and manage it in the right way.

cheeseisthebest · 24/09/2021 11:47

So he has done it before but that is first time he's done it and settled himself to start with too. Normally me going upstairs triggers him to bark and I have to settle him back down but last night it didn't.

@cheeseisthebest yay! well done. ..

Wolfcub · 24/09/2021 13:56

Weighed Wolfpup this morning 15.3kg at 5 months

TheBigMacDougal · 24/09/2021 14:21

Mac weighed in at 8.4kg, he’s 17 weeks tomorrow.

I expected more as he’s definitely heftier and was 6kg 6 weeks ago.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/09/2021 15:03

We also noticed a link between much softer pops during the few weeks he seemed to lose all his baby teeth!

GuyFawkesDay · 24/09/2021 15:51

Oh ok then it might be the teeth as they're due to come out imminently! I remember my kids having awful nappies when they were teething so that why I asked.

@cheeseisthebest what magic did you weave? I'm so impressed (and a tad jealous!!) We are back on feeding and chews in pen. He naps in there sometimes too. Maybe he might go over night if I slept nearby but don't want to knacker my back again!

Equimum · 24/09/2021 16:28

Well, sleep is going well here. Bella had her last wee at 11.35 last night and slept until 6.30. Less positively, though, she seems to have started protesting toileting in the house. We were both caught up with something for an hour yesterday (still visible and she could get to us, but we couldn't give her lots of attention. The door was open, but she went and pooped in the kitchen. Then today, I've been decorating and DH has a couple of calls. Again, she's not been left but hasn't had ongoing attention. When I went to check on her and give her attention she had both wee'd and pooped in the kitchen. I'm not sure what to do, as this second episode was only 30 minutes after I'd been in the garden with her. We have less to do over the weekend, so hopefully she'll few better with more attention.

What type of pup do you have TheBigMacDougal. Our labradoodle is 7.7kg at 11 weeks. Fearing she'll be huge.

Spudlet · 24/09/2021 16:58

Oooh that’s interesting about the teething / poop link. I hadn’t thought of that.

Spudpup met a cat today! It was the ideal sort - bold enough not to run away, arched its back and hissed, but didn’t take a swipe at him. So he has learned to be a bit respectful without having too much of a fright. He was very good, had a small, distanced sniff and came away straight away when called.

Wolfcub · 24/09/2021 19:13

Hmmm I wonder if the teething is causing our runny bum. We have almost lost all baby teeth now ans big ones are pushing through. It's partly the runny bum that I want to change food for

tizwozliz · 24/09/2021 19:38

Phew, glad Ada travels in the car well as it took 6 hours to get home!

GuyFawkesDay · 24/09/2021 20:14

It's also that FawkesPup's poop is STINKY. And I remember both my kids have awful smelly nappies with teething. And when you think puppies get most of their 42 teeth in a matter of weeks it stands to reason it'll upset their system too

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/09/2021 21:11

Oops sorry for doubting the teething and poo link! Makepup has lost some teeth but poo seems normal (huge and smelly)

cheeseisthebest · 25/09/2021 10:12

We went on a puppy walk this morning organised by our puppy training classes and it was lovely. I even took him off the lead in the park. He had a lovely time but won't nap! I've tried to get him too!

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/09/2021 10:17

AwesomePup is sound asleep on the sofa next to me. DH has been taking him for his walks all week and he says his heel work and loose lead walking have improved massively. That feels like a slight on my training that in just 1 week DH has managed to get him loose lead walking brilliantly, but really I know it's because he will have pulled at the start of the week purely because of the novelty of someone other than me walking him

TheBigMacDougal · 25/09/2021 10:21

This morning I got my first lie in for 7 weeks as DH got up with Mac pup and the kids. All going great until Mac pup knocked over DHs breakfast bowl… must remain grateful for the effort as otherwise it won’t happen again for another 7 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Lifeishitsometimes · 25/09/2021 10:31

Mine is being a little bitey terror first thing in the morning and kicking up a huge fuss in her run. I made the fatal mistake of letting her out a couple of times when she protested as I thought she might need to pee. Back to feeding in run for us too. In more positive news we can go out and about now as Vax have kicked in. Off to the garden centre and hoping she doesn't disgrace herself by weeing on the floor...

ashmts · 25/09/2021 10:55

@Equimum I doubt it's protest toileting, at 11 weeks she's unlikely to be toilet trained yet. I wouldn't say it's about her having attention as such, more that at that age you need to still be taking her out really frequently and actively training. (Not getting at you or saying I'm perfect, we had lots of accidents in the house at first but we had to realise it was our fault). The door being open doesn't mean anything, at 11 weeks she probably won't understand the difference between indoors and outdoors with regards to toileting. You'd be better keeping the door shut when toilet training so she learns the distinction. Also even though you say she could get to you, it's very early to expect her to have learned to ask to go out to the toilet

Equimum · 25/09/2021 11:47

I get your point ashmts and you are probably right. I think it just feels like protests because when we are around she runs into the garden if she needs to go, and we generally have no accidents. Although we follow and give treats, we only actively take her to the garden first thing, before car journeys and last thing a night. Otherwise she's been running outside of her own accord. Today, again, now we are around and regularly stroking her etc, she is stopping and running outside. Hopefully she just needs time.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 25/09/2021 11:54

We had a fabulous lie in. I'd been up at midnight to let him out for a wee. Put him back in crate.

7.40am DH gets up to find him stretched out on the sofa fast asleep 😆 No idea what happened there.

New and nice car. Pup wants to chew the soft dog guard and sliding boot cover. Will have to buy a metal something.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/09/2021 13:46

Up at 5:30 here. He went out for a wee, came back in and then decided to try to poo on the floor!! Little monkey.

This is because DH does bugger all toilet training during the week. We are going backwards and I am exhausted and fed up with it all, especially as he's so bastarding bitey at the moment.

And as DH said he didn't agree to play with/train him I'm not doing his washing or cooling for him as I don't remember ever agreeing to do that either. I'm f#cking fuming.

MightyMeerkat · 25/09/2021 14:03

Up at 3 for a wee, 5 for a wee and then up properly at 6.30. I'm knackered.

We've been for a walk this morning and she's discovered it's fun to chase squirrels and birds - although she's on the long line so only gets 10 metres! And then we went to puppy socialisation class where she ate lots of rabbit poo 🤢 and decided not to play until the last 5 minutes when it was time to leave! That said, this was her second class and she was much more confident. She's not snoozing and I'm online ordering a steam mop - the kitchen floor is filthy and just won't come clean.

How is everyone restraining their pups in the car? I've got a seat thingy and belt and she has been sitting in the passenger seat next to me. That's not going to work for much longer though as she is getting bigger and more curious and wants to explore which is very distracting. She won't go in a crate so one in the boot won't work. I thought maybe about getting a cover and belt for the back seat?

tizwozliz · 25/09/2021 14:07

Ada travels in the boot or on the back seat with a car seat hammock strapped in to a seatbelt depending on where we're going/what we're doing.

cheeseisthebest · 25/09/2021 14:35

Definitely safer in the back!
