@LadyCatStark exactly the same here lol! He would have gladly left pup at his sisters after holiday! I've seen him stroking her a few times though since we've been back so perhaps he's warming to her a bit... I have started training her to wee and poo on the gravel instead of the grass so if the garden situation improves he has less to moan about as the barking at our meal times is sorted now (90% of the time at least!) The other issue is jumping on sofas - she's not allowed on sofas, we have 2 and when she has crazy zoomies she will jump from one to the other and she also has started jumping on the one by the window to look out of the window...Hmm

@Aria20 yup sofas are our issue too and jumping up at the counters. Today I found him on the dining room table pressing buttons on DS’s MacBook 🙈 thank god he didn’t chew it!

@MsAwesomeDragon yes DH gets all offended when Billy ‘won’t listen to him’ but that because he’s soooo excited at getting a tiny bit of attention that he can’t concentrate.

Aria20 · 03/09/2021 19:43

@LadyCatStark oh yes counter surfing... luckily DH hasn't witnessed that as pup has started stealing sandwiches or other assorted things she can somehow reach!

OP posts:
GuyFawkesDay · 03/09/2021 19:46

Yup, DH hasn't quite grasped how to act round the dog but he's got no experience but can't work out why he won't do what he does for me....ummm spend some time with him??

Hey ho. We had a go with the the dog crack primula for recall and it worked a treat. Definitely one to keep for training purposes!!!!

LadyCatStark · 03/09/2021 19:53

@GuyFawkesDay why are men all the same??

@Aria20 luckily he hasn’t managed to steal any food of the counter, just lick the plates, but he has figured out how to open the kitchen bin and had quite a bit of tikka masala tonight so I dread to think what his poos will be like tomorrow 🙈.

Aria20 · 03/09/2021 20:07

Oh no not the bin @LadyCatStark Confused
I might try primula again...last time it gave her a runny tummy though so maybe just a tiny amount!!

@Aria20 yes, the spaghetti! 😱🤢. They seem to have stopped now, thank god!

On the basis of this thread I have ordered the Arden grange pate and will be chopping some cheese for the treat pouch too. Mac pup is doing well with recall but I haven’t tried loose lead/walking to heel for about week as unless my hand is on his mouth with treats he just jumps up, dashes in front of me for treats etc and I have no idea how to graduate from nose on face to intermittent/ stream of treats. I think he might be better out and about practising if I can distract his nose off the floor… 🤦🏼‍♀️ Any good YouTube videos people can recommend?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 03/09/2021 20:20

I'm chortling at all your descriptions of counter surfing, tabletop dancing, sofa living etc. Goofy has discovered the sofa and he likes very much thank you....🐕 er No.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/09/2021 20:53

Um mine is on the sofa with me 🙈

Not attempted loose lead walking. It's too far down to wall along with a treat in front of his nose!!!

Wolfcub · 03/09/2021 20:59

I'm Just going to put it out there, my dog owning life got immeasurably easier when I let Wolfpup on the sofa. Less zoomies, less jumping up, less biting, more normal(ish) evenings

Same here. We just bought throws to cover them…. Someone said to me you’ve got to pick your battles with a puppy and a contentedly sleeping puppy probably isn’t one of them!
tizwozliz · 03/09/2021 21:03

Well, we came home with a rosette. I'm not sure anyone doesn't to be honest, the toy poodle could still barely do sit! But she did do really well which was a surprise considering what a nightmare she's been today. We did lots of nice walking to heel and even managed to walk past people and dogs. Onto the next level

GuyFawkesDay · 03/09/2021 21:11

I got a cheap b&m dog fleece which tones in with the lounge and chuck that on the sofa.....so he moves to the footstool.

Luckily I have IKEA sofas so I can wash and change covers easily.

cheeseisthebest · 03/09/2021 21:12

Ours has always been allowed on one particular sofa. It's the cosiest one. Definitely makes life easier!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/09/2021 21:24

Ours is allowed on the sofa. I like having him sitting beside me for cuddles. When I come home from work he runs to meet me at the front door then sits beside me on the sofa for lots of fuss. On Wednesday i yawned while he was sitting with me, so he stuck his nose in my mouth, yuck!!!!Envy

GuyFawkesDay · 03/09/2021 21:26

I got a tongue snog yesterday 🤢

tizwozliz · 03/09/2021 21:29

Ada always tries to join in if she sees me and the OH kissing!

hilseey · 03/09/2021 21:36

I wonder if any of you can help me with a what would you do? Hilseeypup was sick this morning at 4.30, normal during the day and then tonight has been having several bouts of diarrhoea. In the last couple I've noticed a couple of drops of blood. Is this an out of hours vet emergency, or should I wait until the morning? He's fine in himself, hasn't even been off his food.

Aria20 · 03/09/2021 21:40

@Wolfcub she has scratched the leather sofas with her claws already. She has growled occasionally when told to get off so I was worried it was the start of guarding the sofa. Also we are a family of 5 so if we're all in the same room there is no spare space on sofa so we don't want to encourage it!

She knows "off" and will now get off sofas/counters... but I'd rather she didn't get on in the first place lol... sometimes when I can pre empt that she's going to jump on I say ah ah and distract her to sit by me instead or say "in your bed" and she does a sort of withering look at me as I've foiled her plan so then when she does get up at another point she's almost triumphant that I didn't catch her out lol

Aria20 · 03/09/2021 21:43

@hilseey it's tricky when they seem well but dogs are very good at hiding when they are ill so I think I'd at least call for some advice. Hopefully they'll say it can wait until the morning. Hopefully nothing serious.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 03/09/2021 22:04

Gawd you've all made me rethink the sofa. He's fast asleep in his crate (on his back, legs akimbo) and very settled.

But.... I like cuddling a dog on the sofa and all our dogs have been allowed up. Sofas are both old and covered because of this.

But ...goofy is a big dog and probably not as clean as our terrier so I wanted to keep him off right from the off.

Now dithering

@hilseey it's really hard isn't it. I was in simillar dilemma a few nights back. He drank well and by morning was fine but really worrying

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/09/2021 22:07

@hilseey I’d probably ring for advice… we get a free 24 hour vet line with our butternut box subscription so I’ve sometimes rung them first before calling our out of hours number for our vet.

tizwozliz · 03/09/2021 22:13

Ada has very limited access to the lounge, and if she's up on the sofa she'll go straight to sleep most of the time and won't be investigating all the non puppy proofed stuff around the room. The sofa came from the bargain corner in Ikea so it's not precious.

@hilseey - does your insurance come with any sort of helpline / firstvet service? I'd be tempted to get their advice

hilseey · 03/09/2021 23:12

Thank you everyone, especially @tizwozliz, for the reminder that my insurance has a free hotline for vet advice. How brilliant! (Although we do pay enough!!) I spoke to a lovely vet who reassured me and talked me through what I should expect to see over the next few days as he gets better.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/09/2021 07:43

@hilseey have you got any pro-kolin in? That might help firm up his tummy.

Have to admit I do love evening sofa hugs. I am quite relaxed about them as they're cheap and washable. I'd be far more precious about expensive ones!

Dog slept badly last night as I think everyone being away apart from me has unsettled him. The idiot drank loads before bed so I was up for a wee earlier than usual but then he just wanted to be near me so the crate ended up on the bed next to me again. Backwards steps once more. Hey ho.

Going to take him up to the market this morning for a wander and to visit the natural treat stall.
