We met a 13 week old version of Wolfpup today. Looking at them together I realised he's more than tripled in size in three weeks. Bloody hell! Also met lots of other older pups who's owner couldn't believe he was younger than them. He's a big lad for a spanna but still.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 19:09

Normally FawkesPup can't go upstairs but he sleeps in our room in the crate still and if I lob him downstairs he'd just whine and wake everyone up so I thought I'd try and manage him myself. Mistaaaaake!! He ran into DDs room and woke her up, play bow then barked at me in the bathroom to play with him....what a plonker! Tomorrow I may just get a pre-breakfast lickimat and shove him in the pen with it whilst I try and get ready!!!

tizwozliz · 02/09/2021 19:09

It's amazing how fast they grow, when we started puppy classes there was a 4 month old collie who towered over Ada, 6 weeks later and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of difference size wise now.

We've had a good day, she was mostly well behaved at my parents although rather too interested in the ponds and pulling pond weed out. Had a nice on and off lead walk, sat nicely at the cafe. She happily trotted straight out the front door on the lead at theirs which is something she won't do at home! She's shattered now, slept all the way home in the car, quick toilet trip when home and back to sleep again.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/09/2021 19:10

@GuyFawkesDay I liked your little shower story, that sounds like fun. AwesomePup would do similar if he was allowed upstairs but he can't get past the stairgate.

I've been back at work yesterday for inset (which gave me a headache so I went to bed by 8pm), and then in school with my new form today. So AwesomePup has been left with dd1. Dd2 needed to go in to school today for a covid test and a tour of her new school, so dd1 took her and pup was left alone for 3 hours. He was happily asleep with his half eaten Kong when they got home. He does seem to have missed me though, he climbed on my lap and went to sleep when I got home this afternoon. He's far too big to be a lap dog!!!!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 19:26

I'm terrified of leaving FawkesPup on his own with him being such a mummy's boy. I'm on my own this weekend with him so I could start the flitting and try him in his pen with his crate and a Kong and see if I can just do a few seconds. Then can build it up from there.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/09/2021 19:32

Dd1 did a lot of flitting with him in the early days, as she was looking after him while I worked. She said it really didn't take long for him to decide it was better for him to stay put if she was just going to be boring in the kitchen, especially if he had a Kong or a yak chew where he was.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 19:45

He's taken to parking himself on the corner of the kitchen and will happily chomp a pizzle or beef twist whilst I potter. He's stopped hanging round my feet when I cook and a Kong definitely distracts. He doesn't whine for a few minutes when I go out now (he's getting use to me popping to bin etc) and by all accounts stops quickly too now when I go out for longer so definitely making progress.

This weekend I will be busy with work but on my own so I will do some mini outs (I will leave front window open and ensure I return before he makes any noise) and see how we get on.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 02/09/2021 19:46

Goofy has chewed the fake coal from the fire today repeatedly. If I looked away...he took it. Coupled with climbing onto the sofa to curl up and nap (out of bounds) -he's otherwise being gorgeous

cheeseisthebest · 02/09/2021 19:48

I'm going to start the flitting next week when I'm home alone, do I leave crate open?

takemetomars · 02/09/2021 20:10

Take me pup is a 7 month old Golden Retriever. I love him more than I can say

I can't imagine a 12 week old version of a lab now. I think they grow so sneakily it really catches up on you!

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse ahaha ours eat the pinecone from our fireplace. He also licks the fireplace (eww) and comes away with black fur on a yellow lab

@GuyFawkesDay I have just brought the book It's Ok to Be Alone by Julie Hindle as I am still worried about leaving the pup alone. Haven't read it as just arrived but will let you know if it is worth the recommendation! Flitting should help. @cheeseisthebest I believe it is with the crate door open and the purpose is to flit between rooms until you basically bore him haha

Morningpup is going for his first overnight stay at a home boarder tomorrow. The nerves are real! Have no idea how he will act - what if he thinks we have abandoned him?! Luckily he is used to 2x days of daycare a week now. I am far more smooshy over my pup then I could ever imagine. Sad

MorningInspiration · 02/09/2021 20:15

@takemetomars such a cutie - looks so lost in deep important thought Hmm

tizwozliz · 02/09/2021 20:25

Ada had no problem being left with my parents in their kitchen whilst I retraced our walk to find a lost phone, I'm not even sure she noticed I was gone! (I found the phone but literally redid the entire walk)

Elmrosie · 02/09/2021 20:26

@LadyCatStark sorry to hear about the horrible people on your walk. I don't understand people walking bitches in season in places and at times where there will be other dogs. I had this today, when I took Elmpup out for her morning walk - it was 7.30 and peak dog walking time!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 21:02

DH out. Made the mistake of letting FawkesPup upstairs as he was barking and howling at the stairgate (despite my best efforts with a chew) and the little sod got in the shower with DD too whilst I was trying to wash her hair. Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggghhh

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 02/09/2021 21:18

We are only just pondering leaving Goofy in the crate overnight on his own....daytime and leaving the house seems impossible.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 02/09/2021 21:19

That's a lovely photo @takemetomars

opalescent · 02/09/2021 21:23

Opal pup has just chewed straight through my new iPad charger cable!! 😡

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 21:29

On no @opalescent not what you need!

I have no idea how on earth we will get to the point of being able to go out without the dog or to sleep without him in the room!

Aria20 · 02/09/2021 21:36

Woop woop pup passed the kennel club bronze good citizen award tonight! I was worried she wouldn't pass as she's been with SIL for the last week she hasn't done any practice but we did it! On to silver next week!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 21:38

Oooh well done!!! Only thing mine would pass is particularly smelly wind 😂

opalescent · 02/09/2021 21:39

@GuyFawkesDay have you left fawkespup at all yet? Apologies if I've missed discussion on this. We have been leaving opalpup for 20-40 minutes at least once a day for about ten days or so. We leave her the run of the kitchen, but with her open crate also in the room.
I try to make sure she's just had a walk or play. I leave a peanut butter Kong with her.

opalescent · 02/09/2021 21:41

@GuyFawkesDay, opalpup howls if we leave her at the gate but remain in the house- she gets fomo unless she s in the exact same part of the house as us. But interestingly she doesn't do this at all if we actually go out.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/09/2021 21:51

That is interesting, not left him solo yet at all but as DH and kids away this weekend I'm going to try it.

MightyMeerkat · 02/09/2021 21:57

@opalescent How did you manage that feat?! My pup is like velcro and cries if left for a few minutes. She hates the crate and pen. I can't let her have the run of the kitchen because she'd destroy it - she's hanging off curtains, chewing chairs, chewing doors, etc. It's really quite stressful trying to watch her constantly.
