Putting buffalo horn on the list for when pup is big enough. I bought some teething treats with clove and mint in that are supposed to help teething pain. I'm sure it's probably rubbish but though worth a try as in the frustrating weeks where he wants to chew and needs to go out and the house and garden are not enough any more.

Thanks @BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush you've persuaded me to splash out. Ada's 10.8kg as of yesterday so I'll get the 11-16kg size so hopefully it'll last for a few months and I'm sure I can sell it on and recoup some of the cost if still in good condition after that. Now to decide on the colour!

@Spudlet

Lord Buckethead is now the All Because The Lady Loves Milk Tray pup - although the bucket is back on at the moment as before he settled to nap he was trying to groom under the suit and I panicked a bit. Anyway, he’s asleep now.

The vet was pretty downbeat about us going away so not sure what to do for the best really. I need to speak to DH when he gets home so we can decide together. Feeing pretty fed up at the moment tbh. Sad

I follow this thread to see all the new puppies.

We had to cancel a holiday after BiteyDog went through emergency surgery to remove a blockage. Mine would have been around 1 week following surgery and my vet was keen for us to make sure we checked in with a local vet incase there were complications but we decided it was too much hassle and cancelled and stayed home.

Spudlet · 19/08/2021 13:03

We can’t cancel as it’s too late, but we’ve decided to stay at home until Tuesday at least, go for another checkup, then see if we think it’s worth trying to salvage the final couple of days. Fortunately we booked it last year so at least we paid a sensible price - if we’d booked it at some of the prices people are paying now I really would cry!

Have you checked your pet insurance. Mine had a clause where if the vet said we shouldn't go away within a certain time before the holiday they would have paid out for the cost of the holiday. I think we were 1 day or so out so had to suck up the cost Sad
LadyCatStark · 19/08/2021 13:07

Yeah or if you have annual travel insurance. Ours pays out if we have to cancel due to pet illness, surprisingly!

Spudlet · 19/08/2021 13:16

Unfortunately not - our new policy would cover it, but the emergency happened before it started. The free breeders policy covers the vets fees but not the holiday. Hey ho.

tizwozliz · 19/08/2021 13:38

I'm seriously considering taking the broom head to puppy class tomorrow for our high value toy!

Aria20 · 19/08/2021 13:54

@SweetLathyrus yes we got the buffalo horn it's pup's new favourite she takes it everywhere! So funny your older dog has hidden the yaks!

Aria20 · 19/08/2021 13:56

@Spudlet what a shame about your holiday... my DH would be furious if something happens to pup in the next few days before we go away...I think he'd still go on holiday without me!

Aria20 · 19/08/2021 14:01

Hi everyone,
I've loved reading everyone's posts, it's good to know the reality of puppy life!
DH and I brought home our cocker poo at 9 weeks old last Saturday.
He's v loving, enjoys training and generally toilet trained (fair few accidents but he's not doing too badly), OK with teething on the most part (unless it's witching hour!) but he just doesn't sleep and we think it's anxiety related.
He's never been crate trained and neither have his litter mates, so he struggles to go in his crate unless for food or treats.
He sleeps in a pen upstairs in our room with a blanket and a bed, very close to where we sleep but he doesn't stay asleep longer than an hour or so.
Last night we tried training him in his pen for a few minutes, locking the pen and walking away, he could see us but he still went crazy. Howling and hurling his body on the door of the pen, it was really worrying and terrified me. He's also anxious of meeting new people but took him for an outdoor pup class yesterday and got very confident quite quickly. I just wish we could crack the sleep thing. Any advice or pointers please let me know... Total puppy blues here
