Just wanted to say thanks for those who gave advice/experience on the previous thread about puppies and cats! It at least gives me some hope that things might improve.

She’s been sleeping brilliantly the past few nights (probably jinxed it now), but not in the crate of course 🙄 I’m getting a bit more relaxed now which helps. I used to get really wound up when she has zoomies but now I just take her outside and let her run round in circles until she’s tired 😂

She had her jabs last week and the vet said she can go out for walks from Friday, very excited 🙌🏻 Although yesterday she refused to put her harness on Hmm

tizwozliz · 03/08/2021 13:18

@MrsHerculePoirot I can't remember, is poirotpup a lab? If so do you remember what age and size you first got a perfect fit harness? I've got conflicting information on sizing.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/08/2021 14:54

I'm a handsome boy. It's a good job cos I am a terror

He so cute @GuyFawkesDay. What is he called?

GuyFawkesDay · 03/08/2021 15:22

Hamish

GuyFawkesDay · 03/08/2021 15:33

So far: wees outside:1
Wees inside 2
Poos outside 0
Poos inside 1

Poor lad I think needed it in the car. I just brought him out for a wee and he's gone to sleep at my feet in the garden

Aria20 · 03/08/2021 15:53

@GuyFawkesDay ahh he looks like my pup did, she's bigger now and needs a hair cut around her face and paws!

@MrsHerculePoirot thanks for new thread!

All those doing daycare... all the ones near me don't seem to take them as puppies until they've been spayed or neutered! We have an overnight wedding end of September and have been trying to find one that will take pup who will be 7.5 months then but everywhere is saying need to be spayed, except a kennel but I don't want her in kennel, I wanted a home type setting!

Spudlet · 03/08/2021 16:07

@GuyFawkesDay Ooooh myyy gawd 😍😍😍 What a little smoosh!

Spudpup update - we have managed a short period of crate time with the aid of a carrot, and a car trip with relatively few hysterics. The car harness is helping as it means I’m not having to shove him in, bless him! He still did a bit of yodelling and caterwauling, but he did settle down - we just did a short trip to some local woods so he could have a little walk. Hoping that enough of those will make the car a fun place.

Also, DS managed to walk calmly through the kitchen, stepping over a snoozy but awake Spudpup with no hysterics. 👍 And we met several dogs on our earlier jaunt to the woods (minus Spudpup) and remained calm - he’s developed a real fear of dogs since we lost Spuddog. But today was a better day.

So very proud of both of them today.

@GuyFawkesDay - adorable, friends have one with similar markings that I'm hoping to arrange a playdate with soon.

@Spudlet loving spudpup's forehead wrinkles

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/08/2021 16:28

@GuyFawkesDay he's so cute!!! I love him!! And Hamish is a brilliant name for such a gorgeous little thing.

@Spudlet yay for a better day!! You should feel very proud of both of them indeed. They (and you) have done really well. 🏆

I took dd2 and pup to a local tarn today, which has exhausted poor pup. I underestimated how far away the tarn is, and overestimated how long he can tolerate car journeys. Then I underestimated how long it would take to walk round (it's a 20 minute walk normally) with a puppy. And I underestimated how many people would be there. We had him on a long lead, which he enjoyed. Pretty much everyone wanted to stop and talk to him, and most dogs wanted to greet him. He did brilliantly at sitting when I told him to, and looking at me when he saw people/dogs to get a treat and see if he's allowed to get closer. What he didn't do so well with was the ducks. He wanted to chase them, and was not for coming back when they were around. It's a good job he was on the long lead as I think he might well have chased them half way across the water and he'd never have found his way back to us. He's utterly exhausted now, and still a bit soggy.

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/08/2021 18:12

@tizwozliz yes we have a lab and got the perfect fit soon after he arrived. I emailed them with his breed age and girth measurement and they recommended what to get. Every time he looks like he is growing out of it I take a photo of him in the harness and with his updated girth measurement and they suggest which bits to upsize etc.

Day one: we actually managed more toileting put than in. I'll take that as a win.

He also slept all the way to Pets at home to get more food and having had a mad hour and some dinner is now curled up on the sofa with my youngest, fast asleep with his head on her lap!!!

He hates the pen and barks and howsl.... but does settle if you ignore and carry on.

Night will be fun 🙈

ilovesushi · 03/08/2021 18:46

@Jloco how's it going with the cats? We have two cats plus a nearly six month old lab. We reward her with treats and lots of praise for leaving the cats alone. It is mainly working and they can all be in the garden together now without bothering each other. She is still fascinated by them and I think would like to be friends but the cats are not up for it.

Wolfcub · 03/08/2021 18:53

Wolfpup has kennel cough. Fucksake. He's also a bitey destructive manic little soul today so god knows how bad he will be after a week of isolation

tizwozliz · 03/08/2021 18:56

Thanks @MrsHerculePoirot

This was suggested www.dog-games-shop.co.uk/20mm-s-xs-s-perfect-fit-harness.html but that's quite different to the recommendation I saw elsewhere

Can i please join? Had ratbag for 10 days now. So far only a piece of wooden cucumber has died from being chewed...

She is really good in the crate over night, a bugger for finding plant roots in the garden and is obsessed with shoes!! Looking forward to her jabs so we can go out! She's already learnt that i can't get to her if shes under the trampoline and there is a large contraband collection I had to bribe the 4 year old to go get 😂😂

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/08/2021 19:26

@tizwozliz

Thanks *@MrsHerculePoirot*

Yes this sizing was what we got first. He needed upgrading after 2 months and again another 2 months later. Each time his girth has increased by 10 cm approx. This time we’re moving to 40 mm one.

@Namechangesagain welcome!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/08/2021 19:58

Welcome @Namechangesagain is there a picture of the adorable little ratbag? AwesomePup liked to poo under the trampoline, which was nice. We fenced it off, using a Guinea pig run we had spare. Can you fence yours off?

Namechangesagain · 03/08/2021 20:01

@MsAwesomeDragon embarrassingly the trampoline hasn't been built yet. Ive been slowly putting it together whilst in charge of the 4 year old, 1 year old and trying to stop the puppy eating the contents of the garden 😂😂but thats a good long term plan... however I'm wondering if for shade it will be good in the summer?

Her actual name is not ratbag. But thats what i call her. And of course following this thread and every facebook post. She is a spaniel causing issues

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/08/2021 20:05

Wow, you've got your hands full with such young kids as well as a puppy. Good luck finding time to build a trampoline Grin. She's absolutely gorgeous, and looks like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/08/2021 20:05

Aww hello fellow spaniel ratbag!!!

Spudlet · 03/08/2021 20:50

Bitey fangy twatface has made a hole in my cardigan Shock It’s very old and I don’t actually like it much, but that is not the point!

Bitey fangy twatface is now asleep on the floor 😑

tizwozliz · 03/08/2021 20:59

Harness ordered, thanks @MrsHerculePoirot

First off lead walk this evening, went well. It'll be one of our regular dog walking routes, only issue right now is it's just a little bit too far for little puppy legs and the road is a bit scary and pavement is narrow so have to carry her there and back. Not sure how much longer I'll be able to do that for.

Rather than being zonked on the sofa afterwards though, she's been humping the cushions Blush

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/08/2021 21:00

@Spudlet we went and bought really cheap hoodies and trousers to wear from a big supermarket when PoirotPup was little!
