Do you allow your dogs on the sofa? If you do, do you have any rules? Grin

He is allowed on the sofa. He prefers it if he can sit on the sofa, on top of a cushion, and under a blanket Hmm

The only rule is that, when I'm eating dinner sat on the sofa, his nose doesn't get within about 6" of the food. Thankfully he's not prone to food theft, but when he does decide that he really wants to sniff my dinner he's told to get off

CherryRoulade · 13/01/2021 08:24

WE have a blanket of permission. If it’s covering sofa, she’s allowed on, no blanket means no sofa.

petitdonkey · 13/01/2021 08:35

I always had an absolutely no sofa rule as he’s 35kg and very hairy. We then got a chihuahua who loves to snuggle on the sofa.... ddog still isn’t officially allowed but just slides off nonchalantly when I enter the room!!! (Doesn’t bother with any other family member!!)

Frouby · 13/01/2021 08:36

She is because she is a whippet and whippets must be warm and comfortable at all times. She does reluctantly shift when told, then jumps back on and squashes in the middle of everyone. Her absolute favourite thing to do is squash between your back and the sofa if you happen to lay down at all. Often watch TV with a whippy snoozing in my ear, or loose her down the back of dh.

Much to her absolute disgust she's not allowed on beds tho. Except a couple of times over bonfire night cos fireworks. She absolutely loves having a sleepover.

Yes allowed, but the blankets must be on. If I've taken them off for washing she sits by the side of the sofa begging me with her eyes to put one on so she can hop up. She's a Good Girl.

FirkleingFree · 13/01/2021 08:44

Definitely yes. How could I not snuggle with this little nugget!!!

Dog allowed on the sofa, he's a short haired lurcher (whippet/grey/Bedlington) so hardly sheds. We have throws on there we wash and rotate. He so snuggly I couldn't not let him, plus they're bony and don't manage well on the floor

Unmute · 13/01/2021 08:46

If the dog wasn't allowed on the sofa I'd have to sit on the floor for cuddles.

We have a dog-free armchair for guests and the dog knows she's not allowed up on that.

Snackz · 13/01/2021 09:59

Really glad to hear all your opinions about dogs on sofas! Smile

We're going to continue letting him on but only when the blanket is on for him and see how he goes Smile

We allow ours up but he's only small. Rules are not when we are eating though.

fairgame84 · 13/01/2021 12:27

He's not allowed so he sits like this. When I'm at work DP definitely let's him up.
If im engrossed on my phone then he will try and sneak on. He's a rascal.

Yes, she is. She's small, 6.3kilo at last weigh in, and I wash her paws after walks.

I have a pale grey sofa that I cover with a throw in the winter.

She's a good dog and although she stretches out when she's on her own she'll will move over if I come to sit down.

I'm also able to eat my dinner on my lap with her lying beside me knowing she will completely ignore it.

truetuesdays · 13/01/2021 12:54

Yes 3 pugs. They just do what they want. It's quite a hardy leather sofa though to easy to clean/hoover

When we had a chesterfield it was a nightmare as the fur got stuck in all the holes. We now make our furniture choices based on the dogs.

Santaiscovidfree · 13/01/2021 14:07

25kg ddog likes to sleep like this...

Darklane · 13/01/2021 19:25

My sofa’s a six seater .....funny, the man said it was a three seater Confused

nicky7654 · 13/01/2021 19:31

@Santaiscovidfree Omg your dogs are gorgeous 😍🥰

nicky7654 · 13/01/2021 19:33

My two love a sleep on our sofa. They love a cushion too! Plus my bed lol

When Magicdog first arrived it was no sofa and no upstairs. 6 months on he is on the sofa and sleeps on the bed. Wish he curled up to sleep though! I do have throws and blankets if he has just come in from a walk.

Blankets on sofa
Lots of cuddles

Santaiscovidfree · 13/01/2021 21:16

We have book ends.. Or should that be sofa ends?

Iootraw1 · 14/01/2021 19:21

Yes it’s where I want him to be!!!

Ulelia · 14/01/2021 19:38

Yes to sofa because doing this on the floor would be ridiculous...
We have two small sofas though and she's only slowed on one of them, and only when there's a sheet on it. The look of disgust when I take the sheet off to wash is a picture...

Santa. Your dogs are brilliant. Mine isn't allowed on. As soon as he wakes up, I am going to remind him 😂😂

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2021 19:50

You just want photos of dogs on sofas, don't you OP?

Pup is allowed on the sofa but only if she asks
nicely - she'll sit in front of us and calmly give us her big brown eyes. She has never pawed or jumped up on her own. If she asks nicely, we'll agree unless we're eating, in which case she'll wait patiently. If we say yes, we lift her up and she'll settle next to us. Not sure why but she won't help herself up once she's invited (despite encouragement) and will always wait to be lifted. Perhaps because we lifted her as a tiny pup when she was too small to climb and she's just continued in that way. It's good she doesn't jump up but lifting her is becoming more difficult now she weighs 14kg. Just imagining how we'll manage when she's 30-40kg as an adult 😂
