Do you allow your dogs on the sofa? If you do, do you have any rules? Grin

Yes, I will add mine is small enough for it to be sensible, not mucky (and easy to keep washed), and will happily get off anything on request without any possessiveness issues. If he was bigger or there was a glimmer of that kind of behaviour it would be a very different story.

Santaiscovidfree · 12/01/2021 13:47

We even bought a huge pouffe and ddog claimed it the first day...

IndieTara · 12/01/2021 13:47

Yes but he's small. Big I look like the PP squashed up at the end of the sofa!

fourquenelles · 12/01/2021 13:48

Up until September I had three and now after last Wednesday I am down to one Galgo . A long and skinny breed but they can curl up quite small. They had beds everywhere but as the photo shows........... I long for those days back again Sad Always on a throw though that can be thrown in the washing machine.

@Hoppinggreen

No, he used to get on as a pup but by around 6 months he got arsey if told to get off so he was banned. On the very rare occasions he tries it now he gets straight down when told but I would still rather he didn’t Only thing is we always get on the floor for a cuddle so if anyone is on the floor he assumes it’s cuddle time and you get 35 kg of Retriever sat on you.
We do lots of floor cuddle time too to make up for the lack of sofa time so like you, you sit on the floor at your own peril...

Joking!

The Dogs have their own sofa, cats too. Blankets on. Why have pets if you don't want them to be on a bit of furniture?

vanillandhoney · 12/01/2021 13:52

Ours has been allowed on from day one - I often have a beagle and three cats on the sofa when DH is at work Grin

Shall I allow my horse on the sofa? She's a pet...

There is human furniture. And dog furniture. The two are mutually exclusive. It doesn't mean I love my dog any less. I just prefer to keep his fur contained to a smaller area!

bengalcat · 12/01/2021 13:58

Ours has her own armchair but she does sometimes get up on the sofa ( we have throws over the sofa so it’s not an issue ) .

AlwaysLatte · 12/01/2021 13:58

Originally not, but the dog, whose job (apparently) it is to jump onto people's laps within 0.03 seconds of sitting and then sleep on them for as long as possible, says that is what sofas are for. We wouldn't on a fabric one but it's leather and wipeable so I don't mind. I did try putting a fleecy blanket on one part for the dog but since laps appear on any of the sofas the dog just migrates and ignores the blanket!

Snackz · 12/01/2021 13:59

@thistimelastweek

Yes, but only by invitation and she sits on a throw. (The invitation not is easy to enforce at the moment because she's too little to jump up by herself)
@thistimelastweek Cute! What dog do you have? Smile

fourquenelles sorry for your loss. We lost 1 last year. Our home seems empty even though we still have 4...

@Hoppinggreen when you say arsey, can I ask what you mean? Sorry if I sound stupid, I just want to know what to look out for Smile

@fourquenelles I'm so sorry for your loss Sad If it's any consolation, you can see from the pictures how well loved your dogs were ❤

Our dog sits wherever he likes , he’s 10 and we’ve never had an issue with him , he moves along or off when you ask him to . We have throws over our sofas but he’s generally kept clean anyway as he also goes on the beds .

HiGunny · 12/01/2021 14:04

No he's not allowed on the furniture (though I'm sure he'd love to). It's bad enough keeping my kids civilized on the sofa without adding the dog into the mix as well. He has a nice fluffy mat to stretch out on instead.

Juanbablo · 12/01/2021 14:07

Yes he's allowed on the sofa. He's less than 5 kg and loves to snuggle.

Snackz · 12/01/2021 14:07

@HiGunny ours had a lovely fluffy mat too until he decided to eat it Grin

Bella goes up on the sofa, she has a cushion that she lies on that she purloined soon after she arrived. It's now known as Bella's bed as she snubs the luxury dog bed in favour of the cushion. She also takes up more than half of my footstool in her insistence to be as close to me as physically possible if I sit still.

Bloodyfrostycar · 12/01/2021 14:12

When we adopted our dog I was determined that he would not be allowed on the sofa. He was really nervous and seemed afraid of being touched so when he decided to come up and sit with us on the sofa I didn't have the heart to shove him off. I spoke to our behaviourist about it (expecting advice on how to keep him off) and her view was that unless we really didn't want him up there we should just let him if he seems happy there. So I am entirely blaming her!!!

(In my defence, we do wash his feet every time he has been out, due to allergies. And we have throws on the sofa.)

Santaiscovidfree · 12/01/2021 14:12

Was originally ds's play room with a big 4 seater sofa in downstairs (lounge is upstairs). Evolved to a dining room now and we sneakily replaced with a 2 seater. Ddogs are very very confused they don't all fit on now!! Had to buy 2 big ddog beds which are doing my head in!! Have ordered those calming super soft beds for upstairs.

Thehollyandtheirony · 12/01/2021 14:12

Yes, the only rule is that he’s not allowed to take my place when I get up for a drink. Of course he ignores this and moves in the second I stand up!

WildWaterSwimmer · 12/01/2021 14:16

Ours are allowed on the sofa in the family room which is covered by throws and blankets, but they aren't allowed on the front room sofas.
