OMG - I'm in shock!

Just browsing FB and I see a dog for adoption as his owner has gone into a nursing home. 12 year old collie/Serra da Estrela cross.

Just so happens I have a 12 year old collie/Serra da Estrela cross - his full brother!!! So of course we're going to adopt him. Dog #8!!!

@NotYourHolidayDick - yes, we provide accommodation, food (inc day fresh eggs), wine, beer, horse hugs, plasters for scraped knees, party nights and brilliant memories in exchange for olive picking. The first week is a blast, the second week is a slog, the sweet, sweet smell of the olive press stays with you forever.

@UrsulaPandress - I'm so sorry. It's the price we pay for loving them, I hope his death is peaceful and please smile with the memories of a happy life to help you through. Hugs. XX

Thank you for all the kind comments. We've put all the dogs away except for Jack and Boots - set up their beds in the garage, Jack promptly stole Boots bigger basket! Hopefully we will all have a fairly peaceful night

Can't believe this all happened on the anniversary of the day they were born, such an amazing coincidence. Night-night!

I've actually got tears in my eyes reading this. How absolutely lovely for Boots. This could have had such a sad outcome for him but he is being given a dream come true (if dogs dream, some times I think they do). The best ending possible.

Day 1 has gone amazingly well! Boots has integrated with everyone except Red (the youngest and most opinionated!) so far and it's been very easy. Partly because I think they think he's Jack unless they look closely Alice has been flirting with him - tart!

Boots is a bit stressed, naturally - his life has turned upside down in 24 hours but he's get lots of cuddles and is eating and drinking so all good. Off to the vet to get him checked over tomorrow and to see if we can do anything about his teeth which aren't in the best condition.
