What does your evening routine look like? When is his last walk.? When is the door shut for a wee in the garden ,where does he sleep and what time are you up in a morning with him.
3 wees this morning,and my house now smells 😢😢

DH takes him out around 10/10.30ish, or if DH isn't here he goes out in the garden then. If he goes out in the garden any time from about 8.30 I keep an eye on him and if he does a wee, I don't panic if he doesn't then do another one at 10/10.30.

He sleeps in the kitchen. We get him up usually around 6.30, although at weekends it's more like 7.30.

My beasty has gone now, but he used to go for his last walk of the day immediately before bed at 10.30, then that was that till 6am when he went straight for his walk as soon as the alarm went off. He slept in the bedroom though, and very occasionally woke us in the night if he needed to go out.

I think I got lucky with battendog. He goes out for a wee at about 8pm. He then gets let out again at 10pm but invariably just stands in the garden for a bit then comes back in again, without weeing. He then holds in until 8am the next day. Even if I open the back door first thing he often doesn't go for a wee until we head out for a walk, so he's not desperate.

Is your dog weeing or marking?

I had a male dog years ago (prefer bitches now) and he never wee'd indoors at night. He went for a last walk about 9-9.30 pm and would go out next morning about 8.00 am I think. Can't remember whether he sometimes asked to go in the garden before his morning walk as it was many years ago.

Mine has his bed in a play pen type thing, as opposed to a regular crate. If he's in there, he doesn't pee.
If he's out, he will pee!
Last walk 9pm.

I let him out for a wee just before I go to bed between 10 and 12 unless he stays downstairs with dp (getting earlier and earlier for me as I'm so tired ALL the time) and then out again between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning depending who is up first.
In the past when he was ill he did take himself into the bathroom for a poo in the middle of the night... Don't know where he learnt this one.

In the winter we get in from last walk around 5.30 and, despite having a cat flap he uses during the day, our boy doesn't pee again till around 8am, often 9am.( In the lighter months, last walk can end around 10pm)

I think you might be expecting too much for a rescue you have only had for a few weeks. You need to go back to basic toilet training.

Both my dogs sleep upstairs in theirs beds but in our bedroom. They have one really big walk a day and that’s done whenever we can fit it in. During the evening they tell us when the need the toilet so we let them out whenever they need it into the garden and then always let them out again before bed between 9/11pm. They then both go all night until around 8am.
Occasionally one of them will wake us up in the night but it’s very rare

Mine get a walk sometime during the day but it varies as to time....

Aside from walks they are put in garden before breakfast, midday, late afternoon and then just before bed. Never had any overnight issues

Wetting 3 times in the night sounds like an anxiety problem to me. Where is the dog sleeping? Are you leaving him alone and isolated all night?

Somewhere between 9.30 and 11. He sleeps in bed with us and gets up when I do usually. This morning I'm off work and it was cold and wet outside so we stayed in bed til 10 . When we first brought him home he'd be up at 6 am without fail no matter what time we took him out at night, I think he was just in his kennel routine. He soon realised it's much nicer being in bed!

Sounds behavioural.

My old mutt used to go out for last wees when we went to bed (anywhere between 9-11pm) and would go out first thing in the morning (anywhere between 6-9am). The older he got the lazier he got and would stay in bed later and later. He could easily hold his bladder from 10pm-8am at 17 years old

Last night PestDog went out about 10.30am. He sleeps in my bed. I tried to get him out of bed for a morning wee several times and finally succeeded at midday He has now crawled back to bed.

He is neutered, and about the only behaviour that castration reliably improves is scent marking with wee. Has your dog had the snip yet?

Last wee in the garden whoever we go to bed (10ish) and none again until we let him out in the morning.

But: he sleeps in our bed. When he was sleeping in the kitchen I’d sometimes find a wee in the morning.

Due for snip on Monday..I’m so down about this.today is particularly bad because of the rain I expect .they have even got poo all over my sofa.
We had to literally drag them on their walk .they don’t like the rain.they were well wrapped up with waterproof coats as well

My Dalmatians go for 2 walks a day, they sleep fart and snore most of the time.

They have a last wee in the garden about 10pm and then I force them out at 7am when we get up....

I did think of putting puppy pads down .but he needs to cock his leg to wee ..so

Can you go back to absolute basics here with toilet training? Out every half an hour and also after every meal, play session etc?

Remove the chair / table completely. Restrict access to one room only if you're able to, just while you sort this out. Don't let him near this area he's drawn to.

Having said all that though - is he marking? He will cock his leg to do this and yep, it'll be like he's doing a wee. This indicates behavioural issues. What's the background on him?

And you say 'they' as in 'they've got poo on my sofa.'

Is he poo-ing as well? Do you have two of them? Keep them away from sofa

Have you spoken to the vet about it? Is this what they suggested or could they/did they suggest anything else?

From what I can gather he was treated the same as the cats,ate their food and slept in the beds upstairs.now he’s sleeping downstairs with my dog .my dog is 2 and has never slept upstairs,so he’s having to adapt to sleeping downstairs.
I’ve had some good advice from this thread and the other.i just need to think what’s best to do.the house dosnt help ,it’s open plan with acces to garden through our lounge/conservatory,that’s the room he’s ruining .my sofas are not a year old and he’s ruined them..it’s very very strong wee as well

How old is he? I wouldn’t neuter yet if there’s no medical need.
You need to stay close and take them out when they need the toilet. Sounds like this dog has never been toilet trained.

Very strong wee could mean UTI.
