Not sure if there’s is a current thread for support for new puppy owners, would anyone be interested?

ChestyPuppy arrived on Saturday and is 10 weeks old.
Finding it tough as forgot how brutal the early days are. Our Chestydog died after 12 years earlier this year, he was my best friend Sad

Highlights of today have been...
Standing in the pouring rain in pjs and a coat shouting “do wee wees”

Dealing with a puppy pad snow storm from her shredding during the night.

Turning into a bitey hyperactive monster during a visit from my friends

Please tell me it gets better?Grin

What food are people feeding? Since she had really bad diarrhoea she's been so off her food :( I'm tempted to give raw a go but I'm not sure.

A relative had her for a few days this week and she's been eating pedigree puppy pouches 🙄 absolute shite but she's eating and is finally putting weight on again, but I'm really not happy about what she's been given!

BiteyShark · 20/01/2019 06:37

NewYoiker what type of food are you feeding now?

I found wet food to be far more palatable for them than kibble because it's smellier, tastier and easier for them to digest. I can't advise on raw but you can use allaboutdogfood.co.uk to compare brands (although uk based you might find some common ones plus it allows you to input nutrition information in manually to show you how it compares for food not in its list).

BiteyShark · 20/01/2019 06:45

I mentioned uk based as I could swear you aren't in the uk but maybe I am getting you confused with some one else so if so apologies NewYoiker.

If you are uk I found millieswolfheart and forthglade good for wet food. High meat content and scores highly on that site. I used Millie's when he was still a puppy as it's suitable for puppies and adults and they have lots of different flavours which is good for the fussy eaters Grin

Babadeo · 20/01/2019 09:49

😂😂 that's funny chesty nut. Yes i must say our pup has been called various names other than his name lol i do love him 😊

NewYoiker · 20/01/2019 12:22

@BiteyShark I am in the uk, we had her on Millie's kibble but it was too big for her to chew. Might try soaking it

BiteyShark · 20/01/2019 12:38

Sorry NewYoiker I had you mixed up with someone else. You could also try what I did when I was trying to get rid off all the kibble I had left and that was to feed a proportion of wet and dry. Maybe get some of their wet and feed 75% kibble and 25% wet or other variations.

How’s everyone doing?

Chestypup is 17 weeks now and doing well Smile big change from the early days of wanting to send her back and crying everyday Grin
Mainly toilet trained apart from a rare accident overnight.
Can be left for a couple of hours ( crated because I don’t trust she won’t review the wall)
Does here, leave, sit, wait, stay, fetch it.
Less Bitey
Is part of the family Smile

Struggles with down, not keen on walks and we need to work on leaving her uncrated.

I’m glad we didn’t put her on a bus back to where she came from in the early days!
Not looking forward to 6 months and teenage rebellion though.

How’s everyone else doing?

Hiya! I'm new to thread..., namechanged as I've shown so many people her pic I would be outed, picked up 'prettypup' at the weekend. 8 week old husky x. Little bundle of mischief.

MiniCooperLover · 24/01/2019 13:19

OMG gotaprettypup, that is one of the most beautiful pups I've ever seen 😁

LittleLongDog · 26/01/2019 09:21

That’s a nice update Chesty! Although it’s made me stressed because we’re not doing as well in comparison...

16weeks:
• Love him.
• Can do: sit, stay, leave it.
• Checks in with me on walks.
• Happy with other dogs.
• Settles himself really well if I’m busy about the house
• Less bitey

Buuutttt...
• Not yet toilet trained 😩
• Never ever been left alone in the house for more than 2minutes!

Babadeo · 26/01/2019 10:24

Im really growing attached to my cocker Ozzie now after a shaky start. I regretted it. Wish i hadn't got him. Now i love him so much and can't imagine life without. Can't believe i ever wished he wasn't here. He's my baby Smile

Babadeo, what a lovely face, he looks so wise 😊

FrangipaniBlue · 26/01/2019 20:26

Evening all *waves

FrangipaniPup is 18wks now and pretty much settled, toilet training cracked, been doing off leash walks because recall works (as long as there aren't too many dogs in close proximity to distract him!), and sleeps 8-9hrs at night.

But.......

He is eating me out of house and home!!!!

He's on wheat free dry kibble and has:
Breakfast -150g mixed with 3 scrambled eggs
Lunch - 150g kibble
Tea - 150g mixed with 50g cooked rice and a chicken breast fillet

He's already 15kgs and gaining at a rate of 800g ish PER WEEK!!!!

For his latest party trick....... brute forced his way out of his crate while we were at work on Wednesday, literally pushed his weight against the door until it bent and the latches popped open Confused

45mins free reign in the kitchen and this was the result.....

FrangipaniBlue · 26/01/2019 20:27

He pooped ripped up paper and polystyrene balls for 24hrs..... that was fun

LittleLongDog · 27/01/2019 08:22

Omg Franginpani!! It makes me very glad to have a small dog!

Gotaprettypup and Babadeo Yay for pictures. So cute!

ChestyNut · 27/01/2019 15:52

Frangi sorry that made me chuckle, after our kitchen wall chewing incident I feel your pain! 15kg Shock

Don’t be stressed Little they’re all different. Chestypup is still rubbish at walks, sits looking scared Hmm

Bab that’s lovely Smile

I'm struggling a tad here! She's doing really well on some things but others are like ground hog day! She had her first walk the other day, thank god for walks eh?!

I'm going to try and do 3 x 25 mins as day this week to try and tire her out! Mentally I cannot do enough to knacker her out, maybe if I do both at once she might be a bit better!

Also struggling to find a puppy class! Is everyone doing puppy classes? I work 8-6 and she's out at day care 9-5 so I get home at 6.50 and a class nearby starts at 7pm, but it'll be really tight to get there on time! Why can't they do classes on a Saturday?!

NewYoiker · 27/01/2019 20:57

Oops forgot the photo!

LittleLongDog · 27/01/2019 21:05

We don’t do puppy classes because they all seemed too basic, but maybe that’s naive of me.

3 walks a day seems a lot to me considering she’s still young New. I’m really paranoid about over walking though!

ChestyNut · 27/01/2019 21:58

We found a puppy class that does weekends New. We start advanced puppy this week, so puppy play at 9 and back mid afternoon for training Hmm

OP posts:
ChestyNut · 27/01/2019 21:59

New re walking I think they recommend 5 mins per month of age a day.

OP posts:
NewYoiker · 27/01/2019 22:26

Oh okay oops!! 15 mins it is then 🤦‍♀️

ChestyNut · 28/01/2019 06:40

Just had another look New and kennel club say 5 mins per month of age up to twice a day.

OP posts:
LittleLongDog · 28/01/2019 06:47

Oh I might have a look at advanced puppy classes. Do you have to have done the first set first?

ChestyNut · 28/01/2019 17:30

little I think you do at ours, I suppose unless your dog has all the behaviours they do cracked already you might not need to?
