New Border Collie Puppy - Much excitement and need name!

Finally, after a long long wait, we are getting a dog and I am beyond excitement.

It is a little Border Collie boy and I am totally in love. We get him in January.

But I need a name. We met his Mum and Dad (and Granny) and all were gorgeous - Dad is big and fluffy and really laid back. So I'm imagining our wee boy is going to turn into quite a big thing.

Here are the maybe names so far (please don't laugh)

Ivor
Roo
Magnus
Moss
Bo
Wookie
Pixel

Any other suggestions welcomed.

(As this is a very outing list - I have been running some ideas by my friends/colleagues - I have name changed)

Your granny’s dog might have been... it sounds the same tbh.

feliciabirthgiver · 28/11/2018 23:16

Panda?

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 28/11/2018 23:17

How about Innes? Or Struan? I think a Scottish name would suit him. Or if you want a slightly less human name, Arran or Harris.

He's a gorgeous pup.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 28/11/2018 23:18

I had a collie, but a girl so not much help! I was going to suggest Cuillin, I knew a farm dog called Cuillin after the mountains on Skye but he was black, after the black Cuillins! I see you're from West Scotland, what about the islands? Lewis, Harris, Barra, Mull, Arran?
Or a Gaelic name? Bruach? I've known collies with all these names!

TaighNamGastaOrt · 28/11/2018 23:29

Gregor. My childhood dogs name. Or Rhuairidh? You could shorten it to Rhu? Good luck!

DogDaysAreRover · 28/11/2018 23:31

The west coast islands are very close to my heart. Especially Harris as I’ve been going there since I was 3. Friends & family mean I can’t use Harris (or Lewis or Innes) but we had considered Scarp which is an tiny island off Harris.

What does Bruach mean? We were wondering about Broch (as there are a few in the islands)

Ivor

TaighNamGastaOrt · 28/11/2018 23:38

Gaelics a bit rusty despite username but I think it means beside the loch? Google says it means the edge? Bloody lovely dog he was tho! Brochs good, how bout place names? Muir, brora, Brodie? Kyle? More north than west though.
I know a fab collie called Tweed?

TaighNamGastaOrt · 28/11/2018 23:39

Tweed as in Harris Tweed, nae the river!

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 28/11/2018 23:43

Rover ...like your username!

He’s so so gorgeous bless him

DogDaysAreRover · 28/11/2018 23:44

Muir -my English teacher when I was in S4
Brodie- Homeland character
Kyle - Southpark (but I do like the name and Kyles of Bute are also part of world I’m familiar with)
Tweed is lovely but I don’t think right for this dog.

I think I’m overthinking......

Bruach is the edge of the a river or lake... like bank as in river bank.

Broch will become Brock on stuff, my Brock was a broch once at the vets, I made them change it to the right spelling even though the vet was saying it right because she wasn’t Scottish and I’m pretty sure he didn’t know or care that it was spelled wrong, lol.

Somhairle? That was vetoed in my house, even if I anglicised it to Sorley.

CS12345 · 29/11/2018 01:05

I had a bc called Roo, so I'm bias but it was a great name that served him well and he got lots of nicknames from it, like Roody and Le Roo and Kangi (Kangi le roo) 😁

Izzy24 · 29/11/2018 06:36

A vote for Roo from me!
Bouncy, lively and very loveable!

Louby6 · 29/11/2018 06:51

Jasper 💙

Tootyfilou · 30/11/2018 12:06

He is 100 % adorable ! DH and I have put far more effort and over thinkingness into all our dogs names than our children's names.
We have a Brodie, He is named after Marcus Brodie in Indiana Jones because our Indie died and Marcus was his best friend in the Films...

Whatever you name him it will become 'him" and you will not be able to imagine anything else after a while. All our dogs have had numerous nicknames that spontaneously develop and they are as responsive to these as their real names.
Wishing you many many years of happiness with him .

haggisaggis · 30/11/2018 12:23

He is beautiful! Our rough collie is "Angus" so I am slightly biased!

Squirrel26 · 30/11/2018 14:38

I have a ‘Rory’ (who is actually ginger and white! Although I’d never even thought of that connection before.) sort of similar to Roo and Ruadh?

MartaHallard · 30/11/2018 14:45

Brae? As in banks and braes?

DogDaysAreRover · 30/11/2018 21:59

Thank you so much for posting!

We have now made a decision. He will be Torr. And we have all 4 of us in agreement - amazing!

6 sleeps until I next see home. But over a month until he comes home. So so so excited.

Please keep us updated on how you get on. I am desperate for a BC puppy but worried I wouldn't cope.

keiratwiceknightly · 01/12/2018 07:56

Our cat is Magnus. It's a great name. Literally, cos it means great!

keiratwiceknightly · 01/12/2018 07:58

Aw, see you've chosen. Lovely and really suits him.

Blobbyweeble · 01/12/2018 08:06

Torr is perfect, lots of pictures please when he arrives. Both our BC pups were really easy and calm. To be fair so were our springers and the current springer/lab infant, we must just be a boring household. Grin

owlshooting · 01/12/2018 08:13

Blobby, do you mind me asking where you got your BC's? Were they farm bred? I love BC's but I know they can be very hard work.
