Argh! Holidays with a dog are stressful. He is out of his routine and I have spent most of the afternoon trying to get him to wee. DH has now taken him out to try to get him to poo. Added to which he is scared of going through unfamiliar doorways...

But he loved the beach and has met lots of other dogs and had lots of compliments.

BunchOfBastards hope things settle a bit and you get into a new routine. Glad he's enjoying himself even if you need Wine for the stress

I have to say DH and I have decided it's pointless going on holiday in the uk with BiteyDog as we have everything we need around here in terms of beach, forests and walks so going to do staycations with him instead and go on day trips out.

Just been out for a 10-15 minute ball throw. Can't do anymore as it's so knackering for him but he loves it.

Now back and we are having a snuggle as DH is in the gym so I have BiteyDog all to myself Grin

Back on the piriton as his eyes were gunky over the last week. Much better since we started twice a day but would love to know what he reacts to as it's definitely Sept/Oct time he has sneezing or eye issues.

Today has been better. Mainly because he is worn out having been out with us all day!

Aww he looks so sleepy! I find a day out in a dog friendly town with dog friendly shops and loads of people stopping to say hello and lots of smells etc and he's more tired than anything I can achieve with a walk / run I think it's the mental stimulation?

Hugo is so much better ! Thank god!

Just been to pick up his trial dose of Xanax.. last years fireworks were not an experience I wish to repeat! He tried to get into the tumble drier. Only thing is he can't be left today now until we know he doesn't have a weird reaction to it.

He's so far looking fairly stoned I think he's feeling very chilled 😂

Oh bless. Not looking forward to fireworks for the first time with BastardPup

Report
NewYoiker · 22/10/2018 17:18

I'm honestly so glad they've finally agreed to prescribe something for him. He's so bad with fireworks, and we've moved near a pub who're doing a fireworks night on the 5th 😭 so he needs to be medicated.

He want bad with fireworks until we lived in a place where someone set some off and they bounced off our house

Fireworks are a pain in the arse. I am fully expecting to be spending the next two weekends sleeping in the spare room with BiteyDog as he's allowed on that bed and if you sleep beside him he hardly moves.

Was hoping it would be one weekend this year but seen an event advertised locally for this weekend as well Angry

How is everyone doing?

We are having battles every night with his nails. I noticed he was limping on gravel and his nails have got long so the nail grinder has come out but he hates anyone touching his feet. I know I need to do them every night so he gets used to it but I also groom his ears which he hates so just feel like I am the bad guy all the time. DH gets to brush his teeth but he likes the taste of the toothpaste so he tolerates that as he gets to lick the brush at the end.

NewYoiker · 25/10/2018 09:58

Oh I don't envy you there! Hugo hates his nails being touched.

He's starting hydrotherapy tonight so that should be good, apparently half an hour in the pool is the same as a ten mile walk!

Report
BiteyShark · 25/10/2018 17:47

Yes I think hydrotherapy is tiring for them. Hope he enjoyed it though.

We live close to a pheasant shoot so cocodog is used to loud bangs in the distance and last year we had a few fireworks in the garden which she watched cuddled up with DD in a blanket being fed bits of sausage. So I don’t anticipate problems with fireworks around and about. A friends dog suffers terribly though and needs sedation, poor thing.
I hope Cocodog never needs hydrotherapy, despite her water loving heritage she hasn’t taken to swimming at all, prefers to splash about in shallow water😬

I was dreading fireworks for the first time with gsd, but someone close peaked too soon last weekend, and set a load off in their garden, and he didn’t bat an eyelid! Really hoping that wasn’t a one off!!

BiteyDog doesn't seem bothered in the house with fireworks but we have a close neighbour that likes to use the loudest single bang ones they can find so there is no warning and they 'shake' everything as they are so close and loud iykwim. Last year one went off whilst I was out in the garden with him to make sure he was ok having a pee and it scared him so much he ran into the closed patio doors Sad

Report
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 26/10/2018 13:31

We have never set off fireworks in a garden where we have close neighbours but where we are now our neighbours are a good 500 yards away in any direction and we only use fizzy, pretty ones. Tbh I would rather go to a display but DH loves a bonfire and it is his last chance to bbq outdoors if the weather is dry so I let him get on with it🙄

Report
BiteyShark · 26/10/2018 14:35

The ones that fizz or even do a series of bangs aren't such a problem but our neighbours seem to go out for the loudest they can find which makes me jump so no wonder BiteyDog legs it. DH and I are going to take it in turns to stay with him at night as he has decided to sleep in the spare room now. The things we do for our dogs Grin

BiteyDog is a funny one. He doesn't want his breakfast anymore. He's the only dog I know that seems to self regulates his food and doesn't eat everything in sight. I know I should be glad as that means he won't get over weight but I hate it when he does that before going to daycare.

I so wish I had his will power Grin.

Maybe she thought she was helping you clean up after the DC Grin

DH is out taking MIL to pick up a rescue dog. No idea how new dog will react to a car journey so he has my car which is more dog proofed than his. I hope I don't need to valet it when he returns Hmm

Oh gizmomonki! That is gross.

Steppedog eats anything in sight, and that includes some dog/fox shit. Never sure what it is about that particular pile that makes it edible compared with the other ones we pass....

It's the only time he does resource guarding too, because, you know, that shit is something I will be fighting him for!!

I think there must be poo mounds that are definitely more 'fine dining' than others. I actually saw BiteyDog having a sniff around the backside of one of the roaming ponies the other day. I think he was trying to work out whether he was going to get a fresh snack or not.
