Apologies I just noticed the thread was running out so I am going to repost.

I have a few fail safe dog toys but otherwise I don't believe the 'tough' label.

Happy Christmas everyone, Cocodog has had two short walks, has mooched all day from person to person for cuddles and out and back to the kitchen in the hope I might drop the turkey several dozen times. She is trying to settle in her basket in the living room but too much going on, bless her. I ran out of time to get her a present, luckily DC both brought her a gift, a squeaky one to add to general chaos!
Bastard, know exactly what you mean about respite taking the dog out. 🐶

Soubriquet · 25/12/2018 19:30

My two are buggers for squeaky toys

Just watched Paul O Grady and he deliberately squeaked a dog toy saying dogs all over the country will be getting wound up right now

Madam got off the sofa from where she was sleeping hunting round for the squeaky toy Grin

PestDog excelled himself after trying to defend his castle from the intruders we call guests Hmm He came around to the first one but the second guest was too much even though he had met her before. Sigh. Thankfully she's understanding as she once had a distinctly reactive dog that bit a wide variety of very understanding friends and others. Consequence was PestDog spent most of christmas dinner banished.

He enjoyed his gift and has only taken one chunk out of it so far. He even suffered the elf outfit I briefly made him wear. He's now knackered and sleeping on my lap.

Squirrel26 · 25/12/2018 21:05

SquirrelDog spent last night prancing around my bedroom at my parent’s, surfing along the windowsill, panting, whining, pacing and occasionally trampling on my head. Cross words were exchanged. I threw him out into the garden at 6.30 while I had several cups of coffee, then I walked him over the Downs for 2 hours, put him back out in the garden, played chase with screwed up bits of wrapping paper, back out for another couple of hours on the Downs, then made him work for his dinner and put his turkey in a Kong.

He is now broken, and has gone upstairs to bed. He’d better not be planning another night of partying.

Bella and Eric spent all day together yesterday. We were careful with toys because Eric assumes they all belong to him and dd doesn't like it if she thinks he is being mean to Bella although Bella just goes and gets a different one.
Bella always seems more tolerant of Eric than he is of her. Yesterday though Bella told Eric off when he caught her as he jumped onto the sofa to sit with her. I have never seen Eric look so shocked, he quickly jumped down and skulked off and spent ten minutes avoiding Bella's gaze whilst she seemed to hammer home the message staring at him.
I did expect that Eric would be submissive to Bella as he is generally with other dogs, yesterday I think proved my theory right. All was soon forgotten though and Eric was back up on the sofa with Bella but decided to jump on the other end and walk down to her rather than risk another telling off.

Our paw print taking was a disaster last night. Had to order another set. BiteyDog got so upset he started digging the bed covers which he only did as a puppy when he was overstimulated and tired Sad. He then got us up at 1am for a poo and clattered about a bit so I guess he got his own back in his own way Hmm. I now need to practice the paw trick all day today to get him to trust me again with his paws Blush.

Sounds like it's been eventful in everyone's house over Christmas Grin

BiteyShark · 26/12/2018 14:23

Because I haven't been out at Christmas with the dog for the last two years I forgot how popular Boxing Day walks were. Every man, women, child and their dog was out in the forest Grin.

Soubriquet · 26/12/2018 14:33

I saw two today on my walks. No more than usual

There are times I go where it looks like the whole towns dogs are out

BiteyShark · 26/12/2018 16:33

Soubriquet I think you only saw 2 because they were all where I was today Grin.

Admittedly I went to a bit of a tourist spot although I have no idea why it attracts so many people compared to the other parts.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2018 16:37

Yep loads here too. And a bloody model aircraft. Shock

BiteyShark · 26/12/2018 16:39

Hmm not sure BiteyDog would have been too keen on that. He is always a bit wtf kind of bird is that whenever we have seen a drone.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2018 16:45

It’s alright. They crashed it and went home. Wink

BiteyShark · 26/12/2018 16:45
Xmas Grin
AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/12/2018 17:02

I had brief fantasies of tying a tennis ball to a drone for DDog Xmas Grin

BiteyShark · 26/12/2018 17:07

Avocados now there's a idea Grin

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2018 17:08

Until the wolfhound tennis ball thief pulls the whole thing out of the sky and buggers off with it. Xmas Blush

Squirrel26 · 26/12/2018 23:43

I am in bed at my parent’s house. SquirrelDog is being a twat and refusing to settle. He’s just nicked the wooden doorstop from under the bedroom door and run downstairs with it. Should I: A) Get up and retrieve it or B: Just let the door swing shut (as there’s now no doorstop Hmm) and feign ignorance...

BiteyShark · 27/12/2018 06:02

I take it you did B Squirrel and got lots of sleep Grin

BiteyShark · 27/12/2018 08:01

I think I have made a rod for my own back. BiteyDog now expects fresh turkey sprinkled on all his meals Shock.

Just contemplating where to go for a walk this morning. I have to wait in tomorrow so may not be able to get out for much of a walk so was thinking we need to have a good run about today.

Squirrel26 · 27/12/2018 09:18

I did B. Grin He got me up at 5.20 though. (Because that was when my dad got up FFS, and he could hear him.)

Just booked him in for an hour in the dog run at training on the way home while I lock myself in the car and eat chocolate.

BiteyShark · 27/12/2018 14:15

Hope SquirrelDog enjoys his run and tires himself out

I have just had to clean the car out as we look as if we have collected half the forest on our travels. Also cleaned the house and finally having a sit down and munching some Christmas chocolate as well Grin

distantdog · 27/12/2018 14:42

Well, we have just had our own little Christmas miracle here.... I have just stood a matter of metres away from Ddog munching on some crackers and she didn't even open her eyes, let alone leap up to come and sit and my feet and give me those "I'm so hungry" eyes. Yes, she had just eaten a post-walk brick-like chunk of baguette but that would NEVER normally stop her - this afternoon's walk seems to have really knackered her Shock We were only out for just over 2 hours and didn't even climb that high but it's a lovely day here and the snow had a very soft texture to it in the afternoon sun. She was rolling around in it in a way that would normally make me assume she'd found a lovely big patch of horse/cow/fox poo and it seems to have wiped her out!

I cooked for 16 on Christmas Day but appear to have made enough for 20+, so Ddog, DH and I are still stringing out the roast duck - I think DH and I have finally had enough but DDog certainly hasn't... like Biteydog, I think she will soon be expecting it at every meal!

BiteyShark · 27/12/2018 15:07

Awww I love seeing dogs rolling about on their backs. They look so happy. BiteyDog does it in the garden sometimes Grin

Hmmm lots of people next door clattering about so all we keep hearing from BiteyDog is growling.

distantdog · 27/12/2018 17:29

I'm sure I would find Biteydog super-cute rolling around in his garden, but when I see DDog joyously doing it it usually means harness straight in the washing machine (in the horse hair laundry bag someone recommended here which has worked so well for her blankets so thank you), and then me chasing her round with a water spray bottle and some shampoo... so it was lovely to get to watch her having so much fun knowing I wouldn't have that to worry about Grin

Her little boots have arrived. We are taking it in stages... they arrived Boxing Day (guess it's not a bank holiday here!) so we tried and she curled her paws under her and was having none of it. Eventually got it one on and she immediately lay in her bed and tried to chew it off. This morning I got the two front ones on (not cold enough to need them but as she had her harness on she knew she was going to get a walk so was more compliant) and we lured her around the living room with treats with her walking like a toddler so she got used to them (it does take a little while for them to get to used to it apparently)... going to keep building up slowly with them so that when it does get cold enough again to actually need them outdoors we may, maybe, possibly unlikely get her to actually wear them! The thing is, it's not just the cold but the salt/gritting on any stretch of road we might take that is bad for her paws so we're going to try to persevere but obviously won't force her if she really hates them - she got used to her harness that she hated and she loves it now and nudges it when she wants to remind us that she's ready for a walk. Smile
