Like with children's names, people think they're being terribly original and amusing, but in fact are part of a wider trend. At the moment it's those slightly pre and post war human names such as Barbara, Keith, Colin, Martin...

No doubt give it a few years and dogs/human babies will be called the 1960s staples of Sharon/Tracy/Darren/Nicky etc

Some of them kept their birth names but most got changed to something more sensible.

We regularly meet Shane, a black lab when walking the dog.
