Until she coats it in mud! Shock

Halfblindbunny · 18/07/2018 21:37

Looks like we may soon be welcoming a 1 year old lurcher into our family. He has been matched with us by the rescue as he is good with kids and cats. I never even considered a lurcher as I thought they would chase the cats but he is living with cats in foster and doesnt bother with them at all. Does anyone know anything about lurchers I might need to know?

Wolfiefan · 18/07/2018 21:41

Exciting!!!
Avoid extending leads at all costs.
Consider a harness or proper sight hound collar.
We have a giant sighthound and two cats. (AKA the evils!) I followed a guide from Blue Cross online about how to introduce them and used a longline until I was confident.
Good luck.

Soubriquet · 18/07/2018 21:43

One of my favourite brands is red dingo when it comes to collars Grin

This is madam in her perfect fit harness and that's all she has so far

Wolfiefan · 18/07/2018 21:44

They're supposed to be excellent harnesses.
Oh and we also have dogmatic collars. Blush

steppemum · 18/07/2018 22:49

well I feel a shopping trip coming on!

steppedog has one, yes just one collar.
Oh no wait Grin he also has the bandana collar dd bought him for Christmas
and one harness
and one normal lead
and one extending lead

that's it.
bit boring really, but I do love his collar and lead, he is black and white and they are red with black and white pattern. Harness is red and black looking faded due to washing

Given that I wash his collar quite often due to his ability to roll in pooh, I tried to buy a spare collar and they had sold out Sad

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 19/07/2018 07:01

I’m afraid I live by the mantra...shoes and handbags in every possible colour, shape and size for every occasion, or so my DH seems to think!
Cocodog not so lucky...she has a collar and a spare( also a Fox poo roller), a perfect fit harness, a smart lead, a longer scruffy lead and we keep an ancient leather lead in the car just in case we forget a lead altogether ( learnt this the hard way when she was a pup and had the indignity of trotting along the seafront on a piece of string 😳)

TropicPlunder · 19/07/2018 07:13

I'm even safe from most dog paraphernalia where I am now....will be hard not to go crazy when faced with actual pet shops in the UK! (And I think TropichHound has a birthday coming up.....). So lame! I even enjoy buying the kid junk more than buying things for myself. Dog seems to be becoming an extension of that

Squirrel26 · 20/07/2018 08:20

SquirrelDog has about 5 harnesses that are ‘guaranteed to stop pulling!’ Of course none of them bloody do. Of course I keep buying them. Because I’m an idiot.

BiteyShark · 20/07/2018 08:23

Squirrel I am trying not to keep buying them as well in the hope that it fixes the pulling. To be honest the only thing that stops him pulling are ones that go over his nose but he hates them and lies down and refuses to walk so I don't push it.

We have that too, Bitey, Him frantically scrabbling at his nose and rubbing his face along the floor and me hissing ‘will you stop making me look like a terrible owner’ Grin I’ve given up on them for now.

bluetongue · 20/07/2018 10:55

I don’t have a big collection of leads and collars because I’m forever buying new dog coats for Bluepuppy.

Needed a second lead at lure coursing on the weekend. Luckily for some reason I had a horse lunge line in my car. Weird because I haven’t ridden for years!

TropicPlunder · 20/07/2018 11:07

blue I'm not sure yet whether TropicHound will need a coat for her first English winter. ...but I've already checked some out Blush

bluetongue · 20/07/2018 11:14

Bluepuppy needs his coats for an Australian winter so Tropichound May well need some outfits when in a colder climate.

Exciting news about the lurcher Halfblind. Do you know what mix it is?

TropicPlunder · 20/07/2018 11:16

outfits..... now you're talking!

BiteyShark · 20/07/2018 12:06

Halfblindbunny so sorry missed your post. Unfortunately I don't know much about lurches but welcome and let us know how you get on.

Him frantically scrabbling at his nose and rubbing his face along the floor

Haha Squirrel yes and when they do this you can guarantee a perfectly behaved dog walking loose lead swans past you at that very moment Grin.

The dogmatic means my 8 year old can take the lead!
We have a coat for madam. She hates wet weather. Equifleece. Waterproof, lightweight and washable.

Halfblindbunny · 20/07/2018 14:46

bluetongue Im not sure on the mix but looks like greyhound/collie to me maybe.

General Dog Chat Part III
TropicPlunder · 20/07/2018 14:51

He's a beaut bunny! Looks very much like he has some border collie, maybe he's super smart.

Yes, I've been looking at Equifleece Grin they look nice

BiteyShark · 20/07/2018 15:07

Took a look at the dogmatic but whilst I am sure it would work with the pulling BiteyDog would rather throw himself on the floor and refuse to move with the thing around his nose.

Same with coats. I remember trying them when he was younger in the winter and apparently when you put one on he loses all strength in his legs Hmm. Honestly I spent ages trying to call him and encourage him to walk even off lead with a coat on but he wouldn't budge. I guess that is a good thing as at least it's one thing I don't need to buy Grin

I do love him but he really digs his heals in on things he doesn't like Hmm

Wolfiefan · 20/07/2018 15:24

Bunny. That face! Too gorgeous.
I've spent the morning cuddling Siberian Husky puppies.
Repeat after me. I can't have a Siberian. I don't want one. Well not a lot. Not even the most gorgeous boy puppy you ever did see. Blush

BiteyShark · 20/07/2018 15:29

Oh Wolfie remember the puppy months. Walk away from the puppies Grin

bunny what a lovely photo.

PestDog is in big trouble. He bit the feet of a visiting older relative who doesn't like dogs and did nothing in particular to provoke it. Not hard enough to do damage, but not particularly playful as it has been in the past, and far from ideal.

SIGH. Just when we were making progress with his other major ishoo, this one pops up. It's behavioural whack-a-mole. FML.

BiteyShark · 20/07/2018 15:43

Oh no. Wonder what triggered him to do that Avocados?
