Wanted to add that he didn't actually maul the rabbit or shake it, he held it in his mouth like he would hold any of his toys

bluetongue · 27/11/2017 10:15

Oh Dotty hope pup is feeling better soon, Think I’dbe inclined to watch and wait for now. At 10 months they are reasonably robust. For a very young pup I’d be more worried.

My whippet likes to pull up carpet and chew on the underlay. Good thing he’s cute.

DeepfriedPizza · 27/11/2017 11:32

Bitey no, not more active really she did do 2 poops on her walk yesterday morning which is unusual as she would usually just do one per walk but then nothing until this morning's walk.

I'm not even declaring tmi any more as I don't think there's such a thing on this thread. lol

QOD, how cute, look at the tiny feets

Dottymum2 · 27/11/2017 12:49

Hi all, thank u for messages, he is still not himself and we had a rough night but has kept down a small breakfast and seems to be sleeping it off so fingers crossed he is on the mend! They are a worry aren't they?!?!

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2017 12:51

They are. Hoping it stays down and he feels better after a sleep.
We are back to the vets about the foot later. I'm so fed up. A month on foot watch and house arrest. Hoping to be able to leave her with someone at the weekend and get out for a few hours. I will be gutted if we can't go.

DeepfriedPizza · 27/11/2017 13:09

What do you even do with a pup when they are on house arrest? Poor wee soul.

Pizzapup would be climbing the walls

Dotty, hope pup is better after a snooze

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2017 13:46

Wee! Have you seen the monster recently!
We are doing walks but they're of the boring keep the bandage clean and dry variety! No woods or fun stuff. She's playing in the garden still. (Which is a mud bath!) chewing on a bone right now. Peace!!

BiteyShark · 27/11/2017 16:42

Deepfried I always put tmi to soften the blow for the new puppy owners Wink

Dotty fingers crossed he's over the worst.

Wolfie have you told her she needs to not chew her foot anymore otherwise no running about for her Grin

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2017 17:55

I could cry. After a week of keeping it clean and dry and ensuring she didn't chew the bandage... It's now sore up the leg and infected too. Instead of a week of antibiotics we now have three bloody weeks. THREE WEEKS! Of trying to get a dog with allergies to take a pill. Can't just shove it in cheese. Oh no. That'd be easy.
It's red and we have actual sores. Skin scraping showed nothing. A biopsy if it's no better.
Too early for Gin
And the best part? The leg and foot are now so sore they can't be bandaged. So I'm back to trying to stop her chewing it. Which doesn't work. That's why we are in this situation.
Rant over.
Sad

BiteyShark · 27/11/2017 18:07

hmmm I was lucky in that because I fed wet food when I had to get lots of tablets down him everyday I just popped it in his food and he never noticed. I can't think of where you could hide tablets in raw. Is there any mashed up stuff you could hide it in?

It's so frustrating as they just don't seem to understand that they need to leave it alone to heal Sad

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2017 18:12

She's starting on a front one tonight. This has been weeks and weeks. It's worse than ever.
Last time she actually took the pills ok for the most part. She will take them tonight as she's starving but can't be fed for an hour.

Greyhorses · 27/11/2017 21:08

Wolfie I find it so much easier to just open the mouth, shove your hand to the back of the throat and drop it down. Over in seconds!

Mine have kennel cough. Great fun Hmm

Wolfiefan · 27/11/2017 22:55

Grey. Few things are "easy" when dealing with a wolfhound! Bathing a foot? The floor is awash. I'm soaked and out of breath!
Luckily she was hungry and ate the pill with a tiny bit of mince. Think she thought that was all she was getting! Good job she took it. Literal horse pill size. No sneaking that in.

BiteyShark · 28/11/2017 05:22

Oh no Grey hope GreyDog recovers quickly.

We had a bit of a success last night. Another problem we have had since the illness has been frequent wakings at night as he is no longer in a crate but on the floor of our bedroom. He got so used to needing toilet trips every 40mins at night he thinks when he wakes I wlll get up and take him for a quick pee even though he doesn't really need to toilet (he just got into the habit). He managed to stay on his bed from 11 to 5 last night and it was me that signaled for him to get up (usual time for work). Hoping I can now get him used to that routine.

Furrymum2 · 28/11/2017 09:09

Wolfie - we had a similar issue with our Golden, Holly, years ago. She ripped part of her tendon out of her foot - had an op and we were told a weeks worth of antibiotics after. Turned into 2 months of tablets. Keeping it dry was hell!! We ended up putting her in a Mikki boot - which hurt bless her, and wrapping her foot in plastic bags. She had to have it cleaned so much she was always phobic about her paws being touched afterwards, but she recovered completely and went on to do crazy things for 15 years.
Re the food/pills issue. Could you switch to a complete for a while? We feed Honey’s and because it has veg too it is all squishy when defrosted. Super easy to hide pills in!
I
Hope he gets better soon. X

Wolfiefan · 28/11/2017 09:23

Bitey that's great.

Furry. She wore through the bottom of a Mikki boot in a week. She's a big girl and heavy. She ate the pill again this morning. In a tiny bit of food before getting the rest. Not playing with her food as she has allergies. It's been a hard year!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/11/2017 10:16

All these poor poorly puppies Sad .

Bananapup has started going out on the lead, she’s loving the walks, meeting other dogs and all the attention (it’s like being out with a rock star everyone wants to ask about her and take her photo, my fault for owning the tiniest fluffiest dog imaginable I guess Grin ).

I’m having trouble with getting her to walk beside me though, she wants to walk behind me to chase/catch my feet, she’ll only walk ahead if she sees other dogs or people looking at her wanting to fuss over her. I’m living in fear of treading on her as we walk, she got on top of the toe of my boot today and went flying. No damage done thankfully this time.

Elphame · 28/11/2017 10:42

bluth I find a nice smelly treat in my hand works really well to get Elfpup to walk where I want him too. Dangle your closed hand in front of the nose and walk on! He gets it every so often! More often to start with

Furrymum2 · 28/11/2017 13:35

Sorry to hear it’s been such a hard year Wolfie. I hope she gets well soon.

Wolfiefan · 28/11/2017 13:40

Treats are a great idea.
Cone of shame? So scary she sat on me. Following me to the downstairs loo where she wedged us both in and sat on my foot farting.
Happy birthday to me! Gin

BluthsFrozenBananas · 28/11/2017 14:10

In some cultures I believe a dog farting on your foot on your birthday is considered a sign of an auspicious year to come Wink .

BiteyShark · 28/11/2017 14:13

Happy birthday Wolfie. I'm hope you have had WolfieDog kisses in between the farts Grin

Wolfiefan · 28/11/2017 14:18

She had tripe for breakfast Bitey! The front end doesn't smell much different! Grin
Dog training today. Lovely snuggly puppy cuddles complete with an ear nibble off a gorgeous pup!
Bluths. I should have a bloody awesome year then. Small bathroom. Fetid stench. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket! Would at least pay the vet bills right?! Hmm

Elphame · 29/11/2017 15:32

How's the paw Wolfie ? This may sound crazy but have you considered trying honey on the wound ( if you can stop her licking it off!) It has a long history of being used to help heal stubborn infected wounds.

Wolfiefan · 29/11/2017 15:43

Elphame it's one of the few things we haven't tried. I can't now as it is too sore to bandage and she would lick it.
As for crazy. Last night I told her if she didn't lick her foot she wouldn't need to wear a cone! She stopped. Today she's just started worrying at the leg in general. I picked up the cone and she stopped. Hmm
