Poorly wolfie

A handhold please. My girl isn't eating. We had blood taken yesterday and a vet check.
Heart rate and temp on the higher side of normal.
Lungs ok. So not pneumonia. Which is common with her breed.
No discharge or other sign of pyometra. (Can't spay giant breeds till later.)
Not dehydrated.
Drinking and weeing.
No diarrhoea
I'm really worried. She's so quiet and subdued.
Phantom pregnancy? First season August?
I'm waffling really. Just want her to be ok.

I've made some satin balls but due to a risk of neospora (spelling?!) they need to be frozen for three weeks!
I can't start offering different food. I really can't. I gave her shop bought treats a few weeks back. We ended up at the vet with a very painful ear infection and on treatment for a fortnight.
She ate a bit this am. Yesterday she ate if I left her to it. This morning she was scared by a loud noise and I had to cuddle her whilst she ate! Hmm

Neospora? What meat are you using?

Floralnomad · 29/10/2017 16:23

Not trying to be snippy but what if she has decided that she doesn't like the diet you are going to offer her what are you going to do just let her get thinner and thinner in the hope that she won't starve herself to some other illness ? Not every other food in the world is going to give her issues . She is a big dog who is still growing . Have you tried the butternut box diet , perhaps that would be more appealing and it's all human grade .

picklemepopcorn · 29/10/2017 17:41

It’s really hard though, floral, if you dog tends to react to different foods. It makes changing to sort out one issue problematic because you risk getting different problems on top of the first set.

Wolfiefan · 29/10/2017 17:48

She has eaten it happily up until now. The last two days she has managed a kilo a day. Not the 1.5 a day we were on. But much better.
I'm afraid I'm not willing to mess about with the choices of food that she has been happy and fit up until now. There's the allergy issue. We don't know what she reacts to. There's also the issue of many foods being completely unsuitable for a giant pup. They grow so fast and if you get things like protein levels wrong you can do some serious damage.

How's Wolfie doing? Think you said you were off to the vets today. Hope all is well with you both.

Wolfiefan · 30/10/2017 17:56

Yep. Nail clip. Went well.
She's dropped weight since the last visit but for the last three days has cleared her bowl morning and evening. (Has been on 1kg. Was on 1.5 but not clearing it before she went "off") Seems back to herself.
I asked vet about lungworm. They are starting to see it. But as she's improving it isn't the most likely diagnosis.
Here's hoping we can start to see her at least maintaining her weight. Fingers crossed.

Great.

Cockerpoodledoo · 30/10/2017 21:49

So happy to hear she is doing better.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 31/10/2017 09:20

Dear Wolfiefan - I haven't managed to catch up with the whole thread but glad to hear your pup is doing better.

I saw the post about the bald patch though and just wondered if it could be seasonal alopecia? My big dog gets it - she ends up with stripes down her sides (looks like she's spray tanned a 6 pack on herself!!).

With her it was a symptom of her hypothyroidism but according to the vet it's reasonably common in some specific breeds.

Wolfiefan · 31/10/2017 09:54

Thanks Rebecca. It's not completely bald. I litererally saw a chunk of the top coat come out when I groomed her. She seems to be moulting. No other patches. (Not using that brush at the moment!!)
