Poorly wolfie

A handhold please. My girl isn't eating. We had blood taken yesterday and a vet check.
Heart rate and temp on the higher side of normal.
Lungs ok. So not pneumonia. Which is common with her breed.
No discharge or other sign of pyometra. (Can't spay giant breeds till later.)
Not dehydrated.
Drinking and weeing.
No diarrhoea
I'm really worried. She's so quiet and subdued.
Phantom pregnancy? First season August?
I'm waffling really. Just want her to be ok.

Hope so. She still isn't eating much but anything is better than nothing. Breeder still thinks it's a phantom pregnancy. I'm much happier now infection has been ruled out.

My deerhound has days like this...... She does seem to get in a bit of a sulk for three or four days every-so- often.
So glad your wolfie doesn't have an infection.

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2017 14:36

Thread just popped up on active - sorry to hear about your sick puppy Flowers

They give us so much but also ramp our anxiety up to 99!

Best wishes Wolfie, love Alice x

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 15:07

Thanks my lovelies. I think if she wasn't a wolfhound (prone to lots of things!) and I hadn't spent years doing research (and reading about all the scary things) I would be more relaxed!!
She's my baby heart hound and a dream come true. Let's hope it's just a phantom.
Foul wind right now. Ain't no fart like a wolfhound fart!

OP posts:
Hidingtonothing · 21/10/2017 15:43

I dunno, staffy farts are eye-wateringly awful Envy (not envy) Glad she's giving you a little less cause for concern now anyhow, I always wonder why I have em at times like this but then I remember all the hours of fun and love and company and laughter they give me in between worrying times like this and I realise the good far, far outweighs the bad Smile

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 21/10/2017 16:29

I think I cured my girls phantom by getting an actual puppy Grin she is now smugly showing the puppy off in a sort of 'I told you so' type of way.
Quite how she thinks she just coughed up a puppy one night I'm not quite sure Grin.
Having a new puppy seems to have cured her of any food fussiness too..

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 16:43

Oh Jesus! I definitely don't have the room, the strength (emotional or physical) the money or the time for two!! And my husband would leave me!
SHE JUST ATE HALF A KILO OF TRIPE! YAY!

Soubriquet · 21/10/2017 16:46

My little dog had a phantom. She was off her food for a couple of days, her teats were all swollen and she was very cuddly and clingy.

It stopped after a couple of weeks. Vet said it will probably happen after every season now so she's having one more season for maturity and then being spayed

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 16:51

I can't spay until she's at least two. It's really not good for giant breeds to spay before then. And if we spay we can't show any more! Bonkers KC rule. But I can't have her dropping weight and being so miserable.
She hasn't eaten properly for a good few days, she's lost a ton of weight. She isn't exactly a chunk either. I really thought she had pyometra or pneumonia.
One day she ate about 100g. Should be on about 1.5kg!

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 21/10/2017 16:55

That rule is daft in my opinion on being able to show. Are you planning on continuing to show Wolfie as I know you have been doing the fun/puppy ones?

CornflakeHomunculus · 21/10/2017 17:06

And if we spay we can't show any more!

You can, you've just got to fill in a form and send it to the KC letting them know she's been done. I can't remember if they still send you a "permission to show" letter but you don't need to inform anyone at shows I don't think. Once the KC has your form you can just crack on as normal.

I did it with one of my whippets but it's much harder with dogs as it's very obvious they've been done and some judges write them off completely as soon as they know they've got no bollocks Hmm

I really wish they'd either introduce neuter classes like they have at cat shows or make being castrated not a fault as long as you have veterinary confirmation both testicles were fully descended/normal before being done.

Soubriquet · 21/10/2017 17:06

Yeah I know about that..daft really

Is she kennel club perfect for showing then? I didn't know you was doing professional showing with her.

I would love to do that with a proper bred chi one day

Soubriquet · 21/10/2017 17:07

I do know with males you can buy silicone bollocks to put back in the sack so they still look entire Wink

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 17:31

We is qualified for Crufts don't ya know! Haha!
I most definitely didn't get a dog to do showing though. It's a nice day out and she (and I) get to meet a lot of Wolfie friends. At the end of the day her health comes first. TBH not spaying makes me worry about pyometra. I will follow vet advice.
Cornflake my understanding is that you can only do that if you're spaying on the express advice of the vet. Eg a dog that had complications after a litter or pyometra. Not just because.
At the end of the day she's my pet and I love her. Her health and wellbeing are paramount.

OP posts:
CornflakeHomunculus · 21/10/2017 17:48

As far as I'm aware the KC only won't grant permission to show a neutered dog if it's been done due to something like cryptorchidism in males.

I had no issue getting it for DWhippet2 who was done pretty much "just because".

CatkinToadflax · 21/10/2017 18:36

Hope Wolfie is doing well and you're a little less worried now.

You were so kind to me on here a few months ago when my girl Xanthe was spayed and then managed to eat her own liver (I had a different user name) and I haven't forgotten the paw hold you and Wolfie gave us throughout that time. Hope Wolfie is back up to full strength very soon x

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 19:11

Thanks Cornflake. I would always put her health first. I'm definitely not breeding and TBH having her spayed would be easier. No seasons and having to restrict walks and cleaning up. I also thought it would be better for her health. We shall see.

Catkin I remember Xanthe! How are things? Such an awful shock for you. X

She’s fantastic thank you, somehow she made a complete recovery! X

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 20:47

I am so so pleased. Didn't your DH find her? I think I shared the story of my cat who are her own stitches and needed stapling after spaying.
And I got another pet why now?!
Plus GP says I'm allergic to them all! Shock

OP posts:
bluetongue · 21/10/2017 21:44

Are you sure it's a phantom pregnancy Wolfie? Maybe you should get her to pee on a stick Grin

BiteyShark · 21/10/2017 21:49

Peeing on a stick! Now I would pay money to watch Wolfie trying to get WolfieDog to do that Grin

Wolfiefan · 21/10/2017 22:17

Oh FFS don't say that. We went on holiday while she was in season and she stayed with a friend. Good job I trust her!
And she pees on command! I could get her to pee on a stick if needed! Grin

OP posts:
bluetongue · 21/10/2017 22:44

Yeah sure it was a 'friend'. That's what teenagers always say. It's okay Wolfie it's 2017. There's no shame in being a young mum with puppies from a holiday fling Grin

bluetongue · 21/10/2017 22:46

Just realised friend was your human friend not dog friend. Don't worry, I wasn't going there!
