Poorly wolfie

A handhold please. My girl isn't eating. We had blood taken yesterday and a vet check.
Heart rate and temp on the higher side of normal.
Lungs ok. So not pneumonia. Which is common with her breed.
No discharge or other sign of pyometra. (Can't spay giant breeds till later.)
Not dehydrated.
Drinking and weeing.
No diarrhoea
I'm really worried. She's so quiet and subdued.
Phantom pregnancy? First season August?
I'm waffling really. Just want her to be ok.

Oh no. Could he have eaten something?
Yesterday she was bouncy and ate ok. This morning she ate 200g. Should have over half a kilo. Back to square sodding one. She looks so skinny.

I am wondering if he has eaten something as he isn't a vomity dog. We have an appointment at the end of the day if he doesn't perk up so it's a wait and see.

Seems to be a good day then a bad one for WolfieDog. Not even tempted by a few chicken wings?

Soubriquet · 24/10/2017 09:04

Must be something in the water as Lexa as vomiting yellow bile today Hmm

She seems fine now racing around the living room

elQuintoConyo · 24/10/2017 09:08

Poor Wolfie - and poor you, OP. Stressful times.

Has she eaten anymore today?

I send a soft tickle under the chin x

BiteyShark · 24/10/2017 09:09

Soubriquet you might be right Grin as I know someone else whose dog has d&v although my dog has not had any contact with them so it can't be connected.

Nancy91 · 24/10/2017 09:12

I really can't think what is going on but I'm crossing my fingers that your poorly dog improves soon. I hate it when my dog is sick and I've been known to take time off work to look after her! The worst thing is when they won't eat because normally that's what they live for.

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 11:28

She's pacing and being a total PITA
Whining and moaning
Soubriquet they can do a biley vomit if they're really hungry. So before breakfast?

Wolfiefan seems like WolfieDog is happy to eat RMBs but not mince. Just a thought - have you tried offering the mince frozen/partially defrosted? Maybe serving it with a bit of crunch will make it more tempting!

Failing that, I can usually persuade my fussy girl to eat something she's not keen on by topping it with raw egg or tinned sardines. I fork this through the mince otherwise she'll just eat the yummy stuff off the top - she can be picky but she isn't stupid! Smile

Cockerpoodledoo · 24/10/2017 12:43

You could also try sneaking mince into her diet by stuffing in beef tracheas.

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 13:26

Haven't got any beef trachea. Good thinking though.
Had topped good with sardines and she threw up in the past. May have been bolting though.
Part of the issue is she is a picky dog anyway. In reluctant to start offering lots of different food. She's likely to decide that not eating for long enough gets her something more interesting
Still whining.
And she is really playing up. Just bounced my teen off his feet.
Wish you could send a dog to nursery!

BiteyShark · 24/10/2017 13:37

When she is better you could send her to daycare to tire her out Grin

Cockerpoodledoo · 24/10/2017 13:55

Totally understand. I've tried the tough love approach but there are some things that she would rather starve than eat and I've just had to get creative.

She will eat most things if served with egg or tripe (I'm even becoming immune to the smell of tripe!) but raw fish has been a massive challenge. Tried multiple times serving either whole or chopped into pieces with no success. I wasn't about to waste the several kilos of mackerel I had ordered so I ended up blending it to make raw fish pate (boak!) which I freeze in bite size portions. She bloody loves her frozen fish cakes now!

Whitney168 · 24/10/2017 13:55

Sorry pup is poorly, Wolfie, I hadn't seen this.

As things are proving troublesome to pin down, has your vet tested for lungworm? Seems to be one of those things that can cause major issues but be very hard to diagnose.

As Cornflake says, you absolutely can show a spayed bitch - you do not need 'permission' or medical reason at all, you just need to tell the KC via the appropriate form and you will receive a letter.

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 14:11

Really don't see it being lungworm.
Not coughing.
No vomiting or diarrhoea.
No stomach pain
No breathing difficulties.
No symptom other than losing weight and not eating.
She has always loved this food. If I thought she didn't like it I would get creative. I really don't want to switch.

OP posts:
Whitney168 · 24/10/2017 14:15

My friend's youngster that she was close to losing with lungworm never coughed either, nor D&V - mostly just lethargy and excessive weeing - hence it being so hard to diagnose! Was a very bizarre thing, but lungworm it was.

Wolfiefan · 24/10/2017 14:24

No lethargy today. She just bounced my eldest off his feet and was looning about at dog training!

Laceup · 26/10/2017 22:09

Just came on to see how the Wolfe is doing....is she better ,any vet news..

Wolfiefan · 26/10/2017 22:45

She's bright enough. Some good zoomies this morning. Wouldn't eat breakfast but ate dinner and had a snack too!
About to offer her a piece of turkey jerky I made today. (No seasoning. Just dehydrated meat!) and no. She's not spoilt! Grin
Still thinking maybe phantom. And today I went to groom her. Zoom groom left a bald spot?! So maybe about to moult too.
So bald and skinny and mainly sitting on my knee is the update I suppose.
We are at the vet anyway (unrelated and routine) on Monday. I will mention the lungworm then. Can't hurt. And it's a different vet who also knows her well so would be a chance for a second opinion too.
Thanks for asking BTW. My stress levels have been through the roof this week. I even burst into tears at dog training. FFs! Blush

BiteyShark · 27/10/2017 06:58

Oh Wolfie it's horrible isn't it when they worry you (wish they could bloody talk as it would be so much easier to work out what's wrong).

Laceup · 27/10/2017 10:46

Oh no I'm sorry your so upset....I'm not very knowledgeable so I can't really offer advice..I find our dog training class lady a major help ,she's so knowledgeable, have you had a chat at class...I do know how fussy mine is with food, and how suddenly she goes off whatever she happily ate...she's on country hunter at the moment, after trying so many different types..have you tried roast chicken or cooked sausage...mine has never refused either of those...fingers crossed for the vets on Monday x

Whitney168 · 27/10/2017 10:58

If you actually mean a bald spot, that's beyond moulting - where is it? Thyroid issues maybe?

Whitney it was definitely grooming. Saw it happen! Not completely bald. Just rough top coat gone.
Still not eating properly. Just had some breakfast though.

Floralnomad · 29/10/2017 11:12

Look at it realistically , dog is running about , going for walks , weeing , pooing , bloods ok and no temp sounds like she just doesn't want what you want to feed her . I know that sounds simplistic but sometimes with fussy dogs you do need to just let them eat what they will . My mums elderly terrier with numerous health issues recently had about a month where all he would eat was pouches of gastric health cat food , everything else either came back up or was left .Its not ideal but as the vet said if it's that or starve , when he's already really thin , just go with it .

picklemepopcorn · 29/10/2017 15:03

Has she eaten any satin balls? I keep thinking of custard and ice cream, but that's for poorly people!
