A handhold please. My girl isn't eating. We had blood taken yesterday and a vet check.
Heart rate and temp on the higher side of normal.
Lungs ok. So not pneumonia. Which is common with her breed.
No discharge or other sign of pyometra. (Can't spay giant breeds till later.)
Not dehydrated.
Drinking and weeing.
No diarrhoea
I'm really worried. She's so quiet and subdued.
Phantom pregnancy? First season August?
I'm waffling really. Just want her to be ok.

😱
She was from a VERY large litter and an emergency c section. I couldn't cope with that.
She did share a bedroom with a lovely young boy for a bit but they're just friends! Grin
Seriously she's lost so much weight and puppies would be due by now. She has nowhere to hide them. Poor skinny, farty full of poop girl!

Haha. Human friend female!!!Grin

Glad I could make you smile Wolfie Smile I've had some tears over my boy over the last few days but for very different reasons (bloody teenage ratbag whippet).

Do you feel confident with your vet and their opinion? It does sound like she still isn't right. I'd be taking her back or maybe even for a second opinion. I am a worrywart though Grin

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 09:10

Hope the teenage ratbag is ok. We may be going back tomorrow. Foul stench of wind. Still no toilet. Trying to eat everything she shouldn't but very little actual food. Hoping there's no blockage. But then surely she wouldn't leap around the garden?! Argh. Blinking dogs!!

picklemepopcorn · 22/10/2017 14:32

Oh dear! Come on wolfpup, sort yourself out! What about slippery elm? That is supposed to be good for pretty much all gastric problems!

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 14:35

Still not really eating. She managed a fair bit last night but very little breakfast.
We have had the most awful wind. I have been panicking about a blockage.
Then we had poo! Actual proper poo!
And she was bouncy on her walk.
Just needs to bloody eat! Confused

tkband3 · 22/10/2017 14:42

It's so worrying - totally understand how you feel. Our whippet had suspected pancreatitis a week or so ago. It was horrid - overnight stay at the vet hospital, on a drip for liquids and pain relief. And he hates being away from us, so drooled with anxiety the whole time (one of the nurses ended up sitting in his cage with him for about 3 hours to settle him down!).

He's another one that doesn't eat enough (I don't think). He's on raw (switched from kibble as he just wouldn't eat it), but after a week on chicken and rice, is refusing to go back to his usual raw food. And as a skinny whippet, he really can't afford to lose weight. But would it be an idea to try her on some cooked chicken and rice to see if it perks up her appetite a bit?

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 15:27

I'm really reluctant to add or change anything with her diet. She was on apoquel £90 for two weeks and piriton and still itchy. Plus the ear infections. Miserable.
Gave her a bone to chew on today. Hoping it increases the appetite! Had seemed to have that effect in the past.

Hello, just came on to see how you were doing...good you have poo x..things seem to be looking up a bit for pupx

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:04

Nope. Not eating again today. She's had about 200g. Should be over a kg. I just don't know what else to do.

OP posts:
ItsNachoCheese · 22/10/2017 20:09

Hope wolfiedog feels better soon. Its horrible when they are ill and you dont know whats wrong. :( is she still on apoquel? Nachodog is on it and ive seen a huge difference in his skin since hes been on it. He still itches though but nowhere near as much as he used to

BiteyShark · 22/10/2017 20:11

Back to the vets tomorrow? Sad

Frouby · 22/10/2017 20:12

So worrying when they can't tell us whats wrong. Hate my pets being ill.

Hope she picks up soon.

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:12

No. She's off it after we switched to raw and I ditched any treats that didn't come out of my dehydrator. Yep I have a dehydrator for the dog! Grin
It does appear to have been food related. Hence why I don't want to start offering different food.
She's a skinny thing anyway. She can't afford to be losing kilo after kilo.
I'm really worried. If I knew it WAS just a phantom and would pass then I would chill out. But I can't shake the worry that there's something else. But what?
No temperature and bloods fine so no infection.
Can't be a blockage if she did a proper poo today!
Have I mentioned I suffer with anxiety! Grin

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:13

Bitey. Vets said sedate and scan next. But not sure what that would show. And I am not keen on sedating a wolfhound. GA is a big risk. Not convinced sedation is much better.

OP posts:
Laceup · 22/10/2017 20:14

Oh no ,I thought things were looking up as she had had a poo...

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:15

Yeah. Me too. I actually took her on a half decent walk for the first time today. She was "on one!" Full of the joys of spring.
But no eating.

OP posts:
Laceup · 22/10/2017 20:18

have you tried cooking her meat? Could she of possibly gone of Ireland raw...I give mine cooked roast chicken a fair bit ,as it's bland

Laceup · 22/10/2017 20:19

Ireland...where did that come from..it should say gone off raw

ItsNachoCheese · 22/10/2017 20:21

Do you mind me asking how raw feeding works? Nachodog has been plauged by skin problems since i got him. Vets wonder if its a food allergy. Hes currently on burns kibble, james wellbeloved before. Would he need a lot of raw food if hes a 32kg lab x staffy? Also is it an expensive way of feeding? Sorry for the ramble Grin

Poorly wolfie
Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:21

I'm soooooo not cooking tripe!!
She has loved the food up until now. I have several different varieties. I even tried sprinkling bits of roast chicken on top.
She is a picky bugger anyway. Hated the kibble.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:25

Eek Nacho I know bugger all!
I have a friend who supplies food and advises on amounts. There are lots of FB groups too.
You either feed a complete mix. Like Natures menu. Frozen. Just defrost.
Or DIY. You need to get the amount of muscle meat, offal and bone correct. Too difficult for me!
Wolfie is on a kilo to a kilo and a half a day. (Costs me £1 to 2:25 depending on type of food) plus a couple of chicken feet or wings or necks each day. And bone every three days. Not much different from the kibble and she looks so much better on it. And not itchy.
You do need a separate freezer if you're feeding tripe mind. Boak!

OP posts:
ItsNachoCheese · 22/10/2017 20:28

Sorting the raw feed yourself sounds waaaay too hard and a bit rank 😂 but ready made... thats more like it! Im seriously contemplating the raw feeding if it helps him plus saves me £££ on apoquel. That shit is dear haha

BiteyShark · 22/10/2017 20:32

Nacho you could try a food that doesn't have any of the common ingredients for allergies if you didn't want to go raw. I feed one without eggs, chicken or grains and whilst he can eat meat and fish you could start on one with just fish to rule out meat as well.

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2017 20:33

My post disappeared!
It's way cheaper than apoquel. That was £90 a fortnight for us I think.
Have a look at all about dog food (I think). It'll give you a starting point. Some include veg and rice and some don't. Some are better than others. Some deliver too!
