Does anyone fancy a puppy survival thread part 3

Continuation of the support thread.... anyone is welcome whether they have new or older puppies, just want a chat or are battling with ongoing puppy problems.

I thought I would start this thread off as I am hoping it might be the last one I need support from as BiteyPup is now 9.5 months old and we have survived the early puppy months and his teenage antics seem to be subsiding. Still working on our relationship and recall but it's getting better and can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel (fingers crossed) Wine

Awwww Bitey that's so sweet! We're the same with the neutering - it needs to fit in with one of us being off. Don't want to do it to early but also don't want to leave it too late. He's getting a lot more confident now so I'm hoping the fear phase is on it's way out. He's just happy go lucky again.

I love how snuggly our pup is - he just loves sitting with you/on you.

Welcome AntiBoop and congrats on getting your new pup soon! My advice would be lots of chew toys etc but don't give them all to pup with unlimited access - having a couple that only come out sometimes works well for swapping unwanted chewed items e.g. Hands or furniture! We overcame the biting phase quickly by consistently shoving something else in his mouth instead.

BiteyShark · 16/07/2017 19:20

Skeleton I'm jealous as BiteyDog isn't one for cuddles. He follows me about and likes to be close but isn't one for sitting on me or for cuddles (although he will enjoy belly rubs all day). Glad to hear the fear period seems to be passing.

Thanks - saw him today and now we are all very excited!!

Will buy lots of chews!!

GooodMythicalMorning · 16/07/2017 19:38

How exciting! We've only had our boy four weeks today and seeing him was magic!

GooodMythicalMorning · 16/07/2017 19:39

Indy loves a cuddle but occasionally will sneak in a nip when he thinks you're not paying attention.

SkeletonSkins · 16/07/2017 22:05

Our other dog is like that Bitey, will sit by your feet or nearby but not with you. Wonder if it's a smaller dog thing? Pup literally leans into you for cuddles. Can get a bit much sometimes though when he's walking all over you!

Soubriquet · 17/07/2017 13:42

Lexa just went for me...

She had ripped open a bin bag and had gotten out the tray some roast beef came on (raw)

She had that towel thing underneath the meat in her mouth and as I went to take it off her, she actually went for me. Her teeth grazed my finger.

Little bit shocked.

I know it was a very high value object and she really wanted it, but she's never done anything like that before

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2017 13:44

Sounds like a give that back! Did she go for you or try and snatch it back?

Soubriquet · 17/07/2017 13:49

No it was a proper "it's mine back off" snap.

nigelsbigface · 17/07/2017 14:11

Hello all,
I was on an earlier puppy thread, dog is now a year old and for some idiotic reason we chose to get him a little friend that arrived yesterday. 8 week old jack Russell (dog 1 is also a jack Russell).Let the madness commence-again!!

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2017 14:25

Surely if she meant to grab you she would have actually done it? A warning.
Always best to swap something they have with something they want even more. Tough when it's something so high value though!

BiteyShark · 17/07/2017 15:57

Soubriquet I can totally understand the shock but don't panic just yet as it sounds like a get off its mine snap. I would google training for managing resource/food guarding as I suspect you could nip this in the bud before it becomes a thing.

Hi all, sounds likes pups all doing great :)
We have just had Bear neutered last week and he is recovering well a bit itchy from the plaster dressing that came off today so we have some cream for him. He absolutely hated the cone of shame so have to admit he has been wearing my youngest daughters old pants with a hole cut out for tail. Has worked for him as they cover the wound but I know not the best choice for everyone!!! He does look a sight thou bless him Wink

BiteyShark · 17/07/2017 16:27

Dottymum2 I am contemplating paying for the medical shirt when BiteyDog gets neutered in a few weeks rather than the cone. The downside is having to undo it to let him pee and poo Sad. Glad to hear bear is recovering well.

Dottymum2 · 17/07/2017 16:35

That's it, the vet said they often wee on them and then there's wee against the wound at least I can keep changing out the pants!!!

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 17/07/2017 16:46

Pup came in with one of the pond fish in her mouth Shock judging by the smell it may not have actually been her catch but she is claiming it >>smugdog

BiteyShark · 17/07/2017 16:46

Yes I was wondering about paying for one when he comes out then perhaps getting a cheaper one from Amazon so I can put that on him so I can keep washing and drying the other one if he pees or poos in it.

BiteyShark · 17/07/2017 16:49

Thewolfsjustapuppy [boak] maybe some foxpoo shampoo might be strong enough to get rid of the smell Grin

My last Terrier once rolled in a sheep that was so rotten it was runny, this is nearly as bad just without the rotten peices of meat hanging out of the coat Envy remind me why I love my pup?!

Dottymum2 · 17/07/2017 17:24

Good idea Bitey :)

Bear is still humping his teddy like nothing's happened so not sure if that settles later or he has just formed a habit now! Hmm

Dottymum2 · 17/07/2017 17:25

Oh no that fish sounds rank Confused

BiteyShark · 17/07/2017 17:35

Dottymum2 I am sure I have read that testosterone halfs in levels every 2 weeks post neutering.

JenTheSprtacusPuppy · 17/07/2017 19:09

I've been read the threads for a few weeks and haven't had the time to post yet.

This is our puppy, Jen, she's 12 weeks old black lab. She's a it bigger now though as the photo of her on her own is from when she was only 8 weeks, my friend bought her brother and they have great fun together and tire each other out. They were all big puppies but my friends yellow puppy is going to be a beast :)

We've had her four weeks now and she amazes me with how smart and cute she can be, but by gosh can she be annoying at times too.

NOt only does pup still ronk of rotten fish (and bitch on heat) DH for reasons known only to himself decided that the best way to get rid of rotten fish is to incinerate it, so he stuck it in the garden incinerator and burnt it. Now every dog on the neighbourhood wants to break into our garden and every human within a mile radious is wondering where that smell of burnt rotten fish is coming from Blush.
I'm going to be the subject of an AIBU aren't I? Please keep an eye out for me I can't bare to look Blush. I will of course be LTB.
