To not let her on the sofa?

She's a rescue labrador and clearly been allowed on the sofa where she's been before. We have a white leather sofa and she desperately wants to come up- I get those sad eyes, a paw and a head tilt every evening.

Do you let your dogs on the sofa?

I let my dog on the sofa... and the bed. I think that probably makes me a bad owner!

We have a sofa they are allowed on because we love to cuddle them when we are watching TV. It's not white though!

Could she have a blanket on the sofa next to you? Which gets taken off and put on her bed when you aren't there? Technically she won't be on the sofa, just on her blanket.

Depends on her age. We rescued a senior dog who had been allowed on the furniture and felt it wasn't right to try and teach an old dog new tricks especially as she was already distressed at having to leave her old home (her owner went into a care home) but if it was a young dog I would expect it to adapt to our house rules.

I'm even meaner, LittleDog is allowed up but 55kg BigDog has to stay on the floor .

I love having my springers cuddling up with me on the sofa.

The space next to me is their favourite spot, and if the smaller dog is there first and bigger dog wants to sit there, she'll climb up & sit on him until he gives up & gets off

Ours all come on the sofa. I'm past caring now! Plus I do love to cuddle them.

Our dog is allowed on the sofa, only when we're there too though. He is not allowed on the dining table although if the door is left open he will happily sit on it for hours!

Mine is allowed on sofas and beds but he doesn't malt and smells nice so that's ok. He likes to sleep in his own bed at night though.

If I could redo anything about getting a dog, it would be to have kept them off the sofa!

Ours is absolutely allowed on the sofa but she's a tiny, non-shedding dog. The family dog, massive lab, is also allowed on the sofa at my parents' but she knows she's only allowed on the bit where her blanket is - that might be worth a try?

Our current dog and the last dog are/were allowed on the sofa, the first one wasn't. This was mainly because the first dog wouldn't get off the sofa without a fight. He was happy in his bed.

We had a second hand cream leather sofa that I hated and our last dog totally wrecked it by scratching it to make it comfy! It was easy to clean though.

I was determined ddog wasn't ever coming on the sofa. As soon as she got big enough to climb up, that one went out the window - her desire to be cuddled up against me every waking hour of the day was more powerful than any reward I could find to train her to get down. I surrendered and am typing here with dog blissfully asleep with her head on my lap. Must admit, I love cuddling up with her.

I did stand my ground about the bed.

Both of our hounds know their place .

Flat on their backs , full stretch , feet in the air , the length of the sofa . We just put a duvet over ours

Another one with a dog that sleeps on sofa and beds. DM has a leather sofa so DDog has a blanket that goes on it. He knows the different rules in each house and never tries to get on without the blanket. What a clever doggie!

My rescue pooch isn't allowed on the sofa unless I'm a bit sad or cold She has a lovely bed and getsee plenty of snuggles off of the sofa.

Smell the dog bed, and then decide if you want your sofa to smell like that!

Also, I have seen dogs snap and even bite if they had to be moved off the sofa for a guest. They get protective of their "bed" and if the sofa is their bed, there can be trouble.

DS once touched a chair, with a sleeping dog in it, he just rested his hand on the armrest whilst chatting, the dog bit him so hard, that when DS yanked his arm away the dog flew through the room. The owner of the dog said it was DS fault for touching his "bed"

My dog is allowed to sit on sofas and beds , we have sofa throws which we wash frequently , although he's not a smelly dog as he doesn't have much hair and gets bathed every 2/3 weeks . We've never had a problem with moving him off the sofa/ chair , he's trained to move when told and he always does .

I swore no dogs on sofas - owned 3 dogs with success. Meet the 35kg lap dog! Part of me wishes I hadn't given in but she's a rescue that obvs was allowed previously and I secretly like the cuddles!

She's a rescue and has been allowed on the sofa before, the best place for snuggling. Let the poor wee rescue on the sofa! Get one of the big, thick covers from Poundstretcher or the like for a tenner and give your sofa over to the Lab, accept that any moment from now when you sit you will have a huge heavy body all over you. Embrace it, rescue dog owner.

Not allowed on the sofa here, we had a few growls when being asked to get off so since then he's banned.

Yep, sofa all the way here for the spaniels. Plus the beds, but only on an old duvet on the latter. Sofas are leather, so easily wiped. Spaniels are hosed down most days as they usually mud monsters after any walk anyway.

In fact, ddog1 had approx 90% on my chair last night and I was squeezed on 10%

Yes, sofa is allowed. But it's covered with throws and patchwork things I've made that I can easily throw in the washing machine. She prefers to be glued to me at all times except morning when she gets up with me, has a wee, then goes straight upstairs to sleep on my bed.
