To not let her on the sofa?

She's a rescue labrador and clearly been allowed on the sofa where she's been before. We have a white leather sofa and she desperately wants to come up- I get those sad eyes, a paw and a head tilt every evening.

Do you let your dogs on the sofa?

I was absolutely definitely not going to let them on the sofa or beds. This is right now, and there certainly isn't another one in my bed right now!

Given my time again, there's no fucking way I'd let dogs on the sofa (glares at lazy, snoring cockapoo on the sofa ON MY NEW CUSHION) and I only let him up when I say, but I am a soft touch really. Bed, not a chance until my DP gets drunk and says he doesn't want the dog to be lonely Hmm I can't see for a moment how it could possibly be called cruel.

When I agreed to a dog, I had 2 rules; not on the sofa and not in bedrooms. Neither rules lasted very long. He's just too fucking cute. Grin

In our house there is a clear division of sofas: the two leather ones in the front room belong to the dog, but we are allowed to share them; the cloth-covered ones in the kitchen and family room are humans-only, though I do occasionally find a suspiciously warm and furry patch on one, and a guilty-looking dog next to it. He does seem to understand the rules in principle, though. He also knows not to go further than the third step up the stairs (no dogs allowed in bedrooms).

Our dog thinks he's a human or a cat and will only lie on the floor if the fire is too hot.

He has to sit at the table when we're eating too Confused

Can you not put a blanket on the couch for her and she could lie on that?

Throw washed & dried in super quick time and she's back up :)

Our dog is quite happy in her dog bed on the floor. I don't want dogs on the sofa unless invited.

How lovely is that :)
Multiple throws is the way to go. I have about half a dozen in rotation and way too many dogs

I have a white leather sofa - I just have two or three fluffy dog blankets that rotate on the dog end. Baby wipes are fab for cleaning it when it gets a bit grubby. I can't imagine not letting my dog on the sofa - I need my cuddles! 😊

Not only do ours make themselves comfortable on the sofa and chair, they also come upstairs at night for a cuddle on our bed. They are posted back down to their own beds when we want to stop reading and go to sleep, but ddog2 sees no reason why she shouldn't spend the whole night on the bed, between dh and me, so she sneaks back upstairs, breaks into the bedroom, jumps up on the bed and curls herself in a tight ball between us.

I wouldn't mind too much, but despite curling herself up unbelievably small, she still manages to push both of us towards the edge of the bed, and gathers most of the duvet under her, so we end up clinging to the edge of the bed and the last corner of duvet!

We spent a few nights having to send her back downstairs several times in a night, and she seems to have got the message, and doesn't come up until about 6am, which is more acceptable, so she gets to stay.

Ours are allowed on in our snug for cuddle and snuggle action. Also if the DCs have had a bad day at school they can be found with dog on sofa. DS1 sometimes struggles to sleep but can always go off with his face in a dogs fur. So therapeutic reasons y know 😉.

Both are ex racing rescues, both taken from hideous conditions. They deserve a pamper and their old bones like the warmth and soft of a saggy old sofa!

Not on the nice sofa in the lounge though.

No dogs on my sofa.. Two feet on the ground means she isn't actually on the sofa.

Mine rushes to sit in your spot when you leave it. He leaves his own warm patch to sit in your warm patch. When I come back he moves straight away, but when DH or DSs come back they have to tell him. I could say it's because I'm pack leader etc, but I think it's more because I just slowly sit down on him without a word if he is still there. He's not daft.

No way. Especially a labrador that's wet 80% of the time and a spaniels who like to roll in poo.
And not upstairs.
They've got lovely beds.

The cats on the other hand...

Two collies who both chill out on the sofa sometimes, and in their own beds at other times. They spend most of the day on my bed while I'm at work. Neither have plans to take over the world or even the house. Both will move if asked. None of us can be bothered arguing about it, it's no biggy - there's always somewhere comfortable to lie.
