my beloved girl dog is now 17.
We've been together 16 years.
Her back end is going, so incontinence and collapsing happening
I know she's on her last lap
I have a kind and wonderful vet
I do the nursing and clearing up, but I can't get my head around losing her
She has good days and bad days
Today has been not good and reality is hitting
I get up every day and put on my suit , drive to work, and do a responsible professional job and even laugh but am dying inside.
Love you so much Meg darling.

My boy went on Tuesday it was best for him but our hearts are breaking. Strength for you all.

PosiePootlePerkins · 06/10/2016 21:29

Oh words. I'm sorry. You've been a rock for Meg, you need to be strong for her now. She knows how much she is loved. I will check for updates. Flowers

Wow such a rollercoaster. You devotion to your dog is clear to see and I wish you comfort at this difficult time.
I had a cat for 22 years and lost her last year so I know the heartbreak.

YerTiz · 06/10/2016 21:43

What a lucky dog, to be so loved by you. Flowers

JustmeandtheChickens · 06/10/2016 22:43

It will be your last act of amazing kindness for Meg - and will be unspeakably painful for you Flowers

So sorry.

AverysillyoldHector · 06/10/2016 22:52

She has given you so much love, and you have given her so much love. That is as it should be.

Her time to rest peacefully is here now, and it's your last duty of love towards her to make that decision. It is truly heartbreaking, (am in tears thinking of you and remembering our wonderful dog, also called Meg) but it is also part of the deal when we love our woofers isnt it.... Sending you and her Flowers am so sorry.

I got my dog put to sleep in june he was 16 years old its devastating .
He had a catolog of illnesses including being doubly incontient in a flat no garden .i regularly cleaned shite and pee of the the landing at 4 am in the morning ,vets trips at least every week trying to get tablets into him that he really didnt want to take etc i had 3 years of this i knew in the end i would have to get him put to sleep the final straw was when he started falling down the stairs cos he couldnt see properly bless him .
Its a horrible thing to have to put your beloved pet down ;(

petshopboy · 06/10/2016 22:59

Dont know if you are a spritual person but it may be of comfort ,my dog came to me in a dream a couple of weeks after he got put to sleep he told me he was ok now didn't cough anymore or limp but he missed choclate !! Used to give him choc shouldnt have as its meant to be poison i told the vet that i had to wrap his tablets in choclate out of despriation i thought she would have a fit !!she didnt actually .but anyway it was comforting to have that dream

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/10/2016 23:18

So sorry Words. You've given her a good few weeks of fun and yummy food though, she's had some style! And made lots of new friends. Flowers

Wordsaremything · 07/10/2016 19:22

I can hardly believe I'm writing this. This was going to be her last evening on earth, if the vet was able to come out tomorrow. She has slept a lot of the day, according to her lovely aunty who is helping with her care. Perked up mid afternoon, enjoyed a light snack of roast chicken (back in favour) had another snooze, and when I came home, she got off her bed, trotted towards me and wagged her tail!

Tremors have gone, and her balance much improved. She's wolfed down another gourmet dinner and is now snoozing peacefully with her head on my foot.

Part of the problem is her medication when increased, causes balance issues until she adjusts and it is hard to tell what is the illness and what the side effect. I genuinely thought her end was here, as she was having such difficulty standing- and I feel like I've cried wolf ( or should that be woof) to you kind people yet again - especially those who are mourning their own dear ones.

I won't apologise because how can I? My dear old birdie lives to enjoy another day.

Ah well, it looks like the good days still outweigh the bad! I'm glad it was a false alarm. Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 07/10/2016 19:40

That's good news! Of course it is. Enjoy her while she is still able to carry on. And keep posting!

Amanda89x · 20/10/2016 16:40

Hi words, how's Meg doing these days?

Wordsaremything · 20/10/2016 20:14

Hello everyone

I stopped posting after the last false alarm as I was concerned it was getting a bit drama llama and messing with people's emotions.

Just to say she's doing really well - alert, glossy coat, puttering happily around, and I've just rescued her from chasing one of the cats to the top of the very steep set of stairs as I didn't latch the stair door properly.Shock

She has a bit of an upset tummy which is going round a lot of dogs here at the moment and is therefore enjoying an eye wateringly expensive sensitive tum canned diet plus antibiotics, on top of her other meds.

My kitchen shelf is beginning to resemble the cocktail cabinet of a wealthy and adventurous recreational drug taker!

She is so very special though, I don't begrudge any of it. I always get stopped these days when I'm out with her, for people to pet her and chat.

Viva la Megster! Grin

Oh wow! How lovely to hear she is doing so well and loving life.

One of my dogs did a similar thing- just kept bouncing back from the brink ( had a number of fits one of which I was convinced he would not recover from.)

He lasted 6 months further with a good quality of life!

Keeping everything crossed for your lovely doggy!

ISpeakJive · 25/10/2016 22:21

Words, I think I'm a little bit in love with your gorgeous Meg. Grin
I love your updates and I'm so pleased she's doing well! What a trooper!
