my beloved girl dog is now 17.
We've been together 16 years.
Her back end is going, so incontinence and collapsing happening
I know she's on her last lap
I have a kind and wonderful vet
I do the nursing and clearing up, but I can't get my head around losing her
She has good days and bad days
Today has been not good and reality is hitting
I get up every day and put on my suit , drive to work, and do a responsible professional job and even laugh but am dying inside.
Love you so much Meg darling.

mine one of my cats likes wildlife programmes ( I think he fantasises about being a Big Cat and being filmed lounging in a tree with David Attenborough commentating breathlessly on his every move) and another seems to like classical music.

It's very sweet watching David Attenborough cat interacting with Meg. He twines around her and they touch noses and do scent exchange.

Really.....I honestly cannot believe what I have just read.....medication every two weeks....I think you are quite literally holding not this poor dog for dear life!! This is cruel....plain and simple as that.....do the decent thing and let the dog go and be at peace instead of suffering which it most obviously is...tremors etc etc....cruel....I made the humane decision to put one of my dogs to sleep a few weeks ago..he was literally my life,,,,it was the right decision for him, not for me...and today sadly another of my dogs was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his mouth which was causing extreme discomfort etc....I was not going to let him have no quality of life...I am completely heart broken...both my boys within weeks of each other.....but please, think about the dog and not yourself....

Wordsaremything · 17/09/2016 21:54

I am taking the advice of my vet. I am in almost daily contact with her. Between us we will decide when time is right. Please do not impose your own judgments on my situation, which can necessarily be only partially related here.

I am sorry for your recent losses, and hope that time brings some measure of comfort to you in your grief.

forever don't be silly - read it again. Words said she is collecting medication every two weeks, not giving it every two weeks. Hmm
Sorry you've been having a bit of trouble, Words, as I said before, you will be the judge and know when the balance of good days and bad days shifts.
Sometimes my old cat is so still, I find myself checking if he's still breathing (!), but I suppose going in your sleep is a good way to go if you have to go at all. It's always a worry when you have an elderly pet.
I hope Meg continues to have good days and enjoy her life. Flowers

foreverandalways · 17/09/2016 23:26

I am with the dog on this one I am afraid!! I can assure you, silly I AM NOT..........hanging onto elderly, sick pets is simply is allowing your .....BELOVED PET.....to suffer needlessly.....we are all allowed our opinion.....this is most definitely mine...the dog is extremely unlikely to have any good days, if we are all totally honest and allowing it to continue is simply avoiding the inevitable.....big hugs to the dog....and cat..X

Wordsaremything · 18/09/2016 00:02

I had a beloved cat immediately euthanised not long ago who had been misdiagnosed with constipation by an out of town vet when actually he had bowel cancer.

I also authorised a d n r on my elderly father, and then watched him die,

Your posts are massively insensitive and greatly upsetting to me. Please stop it.

She's a lovely dog. I have one very similar; a much beloved companion as yours clearly is, and I do feel your sorrow, I truly do.

I'll be honest though; in that last photo she looks weary and sore to me, in a way she didn't in the earlier photos. Has the vet physically seen her recently; rather than email?

She has been such a good friend to you. I hope you can let her go when she needs to; and that she doesn't suffer.

Ear rubs and chicken thighs to her x

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/09/2016 08:07

Oh dear words another post from forever who once again seems to think she knows your dog better than you do. Please don't listen. Forever just go away and leave OP alone. You've stated your opinion (with so many ..... I can hardly read it) and it is not welcome. This thread is for SUPPORT. You have made me very angry and I am reporting you.
Words please please keep posting. There are plenty of us supporting you. As I have said before your love for Meg shines out through your thread and I have no doubt that you are making every single decision with care and putting Meg's needs first.

Hello posie and dont!

Well I am feeling more myself again after several quiet days -and lots of chicken-

I went to see my lovely doctor in person and she thought maybe I'd just overdone things a little, and has made a slight change to my medicine.

In fact I've just chased one of the small furred ones ( she means cats) up the stairs for trying to pinch MY chicken!

I'm not really allowed upstairs anymore in case I miss my pawing on the stairs but HAH - the door had been left open accidentally, (Shock) and up I went!

Here I am.

Hi Meg! I'm so pleased you're feeling perky! Quite right to keep that pesky cat away from your chicken, you keep it all to yourself!
Words Meg looks adorable as always, beautiful big eyes and glossy coat. So pleased you posted another update. Smile

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 18/09/2016 20:41

Ah bless her. I'm glad she's seen the vet in person and that there's a bit of energy for chasing x

FlissMumsnet · 18/09/2016 21:00

EttaJ · 23/09/2016 15:14

Hello Words I also just came across your thread about your beautiful girl Meg. I'm loving her photos and posts. I've been in your position and know it will come again though hopefully not too soon and it's so heartbreaking. Here for a handhold whenever and to see more lovely pics! 🐶❤️

Wordsaremything · 23/09/2016 20:11

Hello again, it's me, Meg!

We've had a busy time the last few days. I had a bit of a tummy upset during the week as I tried some super lovely organic dog food ( I think you mean Lily's kitchen, Meg) which I thought was beyond delicious but it disagreed with my tummy and made me feel a bit poorly as it was richer than I'm used to. I was getting a bored with the chicken thighs you see.

Anyway I am now devouring butter basted turkey with brown rice. Mmmmm turkey.... Mmmmm

I am a dog with a fine palate, you see!

Wuffs and wags

Meg

Hi Meg! So pleased to see your update! You are looking bright eyed and happy! Sorry to hear about your upset tummy, I'm pleased it has settled down again. Turkey and rice sounds like an excellent change of meal. Enjoy!

Wordsaremything · 26/09/2016 19:18

Hello lovely people

Here I am with one of my furry friends. He was looking after me while I slept, because I sleep very deeply sometimes, and Mummy was out.

He's very sweet and comes with us on our walks.
