help with dog dye? I think we've been lied to

Our dog groomer moved country and sold her business, we got another dog and we get both groomed, one dog the groomer said would be great for grooming shows, that the dogs have fun and that she'd love to dye the dogs hair, it's safe, not harmful to the dogs fur etc and I did some research and found that using some methods like food colouring can work and it's not harmful.

So last week she got her fur dyed and the groomer said it was a L'oreal product I randomly thought to see how expensive it was as she isn't charging extra.

I can't find any L'oreal products for dogs and a family member said she used crazy colours before which after googling seems like it is semi perm inane for humans.

We've been lied to haven't we? And now I don't know if the 2-3 times its been done will have harmed the dog. Can anyone enlighten me? I'm really angry about this

The pink colour looks good but doesn't match the face very well. Some false lashes would complete the look.

Next time somebody wants to do something stupid and potentially dangerous to your dog assert yourself and say NO.

Bloody hell, I never knew this was a thing! My boys would love a Pokemon cat...shame for them we don't condone animal cruelty in our house. How the hell do people get away with doing this to living animals.

Actually saw a couple in a park with dyed dogs.

The dogs were different breeds - can't remember the breeds as it was about a year ago - but they were both white and bits of their fur had been dyed bright purple.

Overheard their owners telling someone that they made the dye themselves and were trying to launch a dog dyeing business, no idea if it was true but I do know it made, what were two very beautiful dogs, look very bizarre and rather ugly. Couldn't stop myself staring at them tbh, in a 'omg what the hell is that' sort of way.

Why anyone would do that to a dog is completely beyond me.

I doubt the dogs give a shit.

I don't see why it would be cruel. It's just fun.

Dogs really couldn't care less if they were pink, blue, green or sparkly.

As long as they are natural dye that doesn't harm the skin, it doesn't go in their eyes or mouth and the dog is not stressed having it done then dye away.

No problem from me. L'orelal dog dye though. Pretty sure it doesn't exist so do confront her

I completely disagree with dyeing pets.

And yet I'm looking at these photos and a little bit of me is wanting a poodle for the first time ever...BLANK CANVAS!

its totally taking the piss out of a loyal trusting companion who looks to its owner with love (and hope of food!), but to do this is just taking the piss out of it.

We should start gifting animals and offering them as prizes ooo and especially for Xmas!

women don't like being treated as sex objects (mostly) but dogs have no way of appealing against being stood for hours on end being cut and trimmed and dyed for absolutely no good benefit to the dog.

never liked poodles for this reason, unless they have the original curly unclipped coat which is gorgeous, but owners even less who do this to them.

Not sure after reading this post if owning a dog is for everyone. Sorry but wtf you dyed your dog??!!!

downright · 03/07/2016 18:08

Dogs eat their own shit. I doubt worrying about what colour they are is high on their agenda.

bobbybearmummy · 03/07/2016 19:55

Nothing wrong with it...a pampered pooch. What is far worse are owners that have dogs which require regular grooming...and allow them to get totally matted. Now that is cruel !
