I'm feeling rather sorry for some of the puppies.

I love all dogs big and small, there are places for them all in our hearts and they give us so much in return, however please please think what sort of dog would suit YOUR lifestyle.

So many people get a breed because they like the look of it or God forbid get one in what they think is their own image!

Pugs are really popular at present but they are tricky dogs, dogs go in and out of fashion.

Hillingdon · 07/01/2015 21:42

That spaniel looked a bit bemused.

It was very telling at the end when they mentioned that Byron's family had 2 working parents. We watched them rushing to get the DC out of the house in the morning and it reinforced all the reasons why we don't have a dog - it's just not fair. {disclaimer - I know people make it work, but it's bloody hard work}

The spaniel looked a lot fitter at the end than she did at the beginning - I think she was benefitting from some of the exercise which Ralph was getting Smile

Bowlersarm · 07/01/2015 21:59

It's put me onto cross breeds, I want Stan!

I warmed to byrons owner by the end. I think she had come along way from the person who had no idea what to do with an 8 week old puppy, and did care about him.

I agree with Coco aboutRalph, she should have got him off that poor spaniel he was humping, seemed to go on forever!

Cocolepew · 07/01/2015 22:12

My dog is a lab/cocker cross. When we went to look at her the woman airily said she was a cockador. Me and DH cracked up.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 07/01/2015 22:27

Everytime they said the breed of dog as a portmanteau I yelled at the tv not it's not its a ....... cross.......

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/01/2015 22:48

Sorry MrsDevere I didn't word that very well. Blush

I meant hopefully it will put people off breeding random mixes of mongrels and people buying them and contributing to the growing population in dogs homes. I am a firm believer in people being licenced to breed and then only if it is for furthering a good line or standard.

I think she did love Byron, just couldn't admit it. Her DH said she rarely admitted to loving anyone.

Stan was lovely. DD wants one Hmm

Hope the tidy resolutions of the programme don't encourage more people to go out and get unsuitable dogs.

Lola's owner took that fence better than I could Shock

ExitpursuedBYaBear is that a dig at Collette?

I can assure you that you do not want to swop places with her and live with her disabilities. She is incredibly brave and has to put up with major health issues and fights against them all to live a life as full as she can.

VeryStressedMum · 08/01/2015 09:36

I was very Shock when I watched the first episode but the second was better.
I think Byrons owner loved the dog, and their morning looked exactly the same as mine as I try to get all 3 dc out to school with a 13 week old puppy running like a loony.
Ralphs owners obviously didn't research the breed before getting him but they seem to be doing what they can to manage him and do the best for him and they have now realised never get a dog for the children as the children don't look after the dog.!
I liked Stewies owners even though he is a bit of a nightmare with other dogs but I love to see a dog so loved Smile
And I loved Stan great dog and great name.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/01/2015 09:36

I think there's probably a lot more cross breeds in dogs homes than pedigrees. I know of some excellent pedigree rescues though.

If people had to have a licence to breed a dog, and were only given that licence if they could give a good reason for breeding them, then I for one think that the world would be just that little bit less full of abandoned dogs.

And selling them on gumtree and facebook was illegal. Hmm

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 08/01/2015 10:45

Our local Dogs a trust is full of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, not cross breeds.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/01/2015 11:10

Whoa Mutty.

Talk about extrapolation!

As someone said upthread, it was a surprise to see Colette climbing the fence compared to how she was first shown. And you have no idea of my own condition, these being just words on a screen.

So back off.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/01/2015 11:39

I'd love to see a follow up to this program. Perhaps after they've done a bit of dog training. I was quite surprised that out of six dogs none of them mentioned training classes. To me that's one of the most important things on the list

MostAmused · 08/01/2015 12:20

Haven't RTFT cause I'm just catching up on the first episode but I'm 25 minutes in and absolutley fuming! Some of these people shouldn't be allowed near a dog! The one with the nippy wee dog that she bought to teach the kids about death has no clue at all! And that poor weimaraner!

muttynutty · 08/01/2015 17:11

ExitpursuedbyabearI was not extrapolating at all - I was asking that's why there was a question mark.

Your indignant response to me is exactly my point as to what you were doing

backing off happily - as I have no wish to know anything about you at all

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/01/2015 17:31

ha ha ha

Aeroflotgirl · 08/01/2015 21:57

I am Shock, I have never owned a pet, but the ignorance of people. The owner of Byron, the family who brought them for their ds, who is not interested in him, and the puppy bought to be an assistance dog. Why did she not obtain a trained dog from a charity! She has no experience with dogs, or training them to be assistance dog.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/01/2015 22:30

She's already had to undo bad habits that she taught Lola without even realising. I wouldn't dare try and train a dog on my own and I've been through it all with my old dog once before. You can't emphasise enough the importance of dog training classes. The socialisation and learning is good enough reason but the second opinion and having an experience person's input is just invaluable.

Aeroflotgirl · 08/01/2015 22:34

Thank god someone got in a dog trainer. I felt most of them did very little research and thinking.
