I'm feeling rather sorry for some of the puppies.

What happens if Lola doesn't have what it takes. On to the next one?

cleas · 06/01/2015 20:56

I am absolutely horrified, but not surprised, watching this.
I rehomed a dog that was owned by a young family similar to Byrons. They complained that she jumped and bit. Their reaction was to hit her. Lots. Then eventually dump her on the dogs trust.
When we took her on we taught her proper boundaries (without hitting her) and she has since spent the last 9 years being loved and spoiled as part of our family.
If only potential dog owners were vetted before being allowed to buy any dog...
I hope this gets better Hmm

LoathsomeDrab · 06/01/2015 20:56

I'm not watching. I knew that if I did I would get the rage and from the sound of it I was absolutely right.

The production company came onto another forum I'm on asking for people to take part and swore blind it was going to be all very much about doing things properly and responsible ownership Hmm

babyboomersrock · 06/01/2015 20:57

Why one earth did they think a Weimaraner would be a good choice for them?

I know - they don't seem like an active family, so why did they want an active dog? Such unrealistic expectations from so many of the owners.

Bowlersarm · 06/01/2015 20:58

I suppose people have got to be first time dog owners once, but the naivety of the people getting a puppy is mind blowing. It's such pot luck whether the innocent puppy gets a good home or not. I know that, but it's hard viewing it.

noitsbecky · 06/01/2015 20:59

Loathsome I don't think the production company lied actually. Today is showing the teething problems, and the commentary is explaining how to correct them.

We are slowly moving towards improvements, and tomorrow hopefully will show some success stories. They're learning - it is less ragey as the programme goes on.

gailforce1 · 06/01/2015 21:00

All these families would have been so much better with an older dog - a rescue dog from a centre that had done some training with them.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:00

I'm really disappointed in this program. I was hoping it would be a bit better than this.

The only positive outcome from this could be that it discourages all this bloody cross breeding. The dogs homes are full of dogs like this from ignorant families. The only one on this program that is any good is the collie.

Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

babyboomersrock · 06/01/2015 21:01

Don't know if I can bear to watch again...

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:02

I knew there'd be a good thread about it though! Grin

3 hours exercise a day! She really didn't do her research. He will never get that unless they pay someone to walk him daily.

Bowlersarm · 06/01/2015 21:05

It was Byron which was the more shocking story to me. He was just being a puppy, and they couldn't deal with it at all.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:05

You're right MrsDeVere, it's all in the editing.

Makes painful viewing though.

Whichoneisit · 06/01/2015 21:09

Oh my goodness!

How did these families not do their research? Poor Byron! They are only encouraging his behaviour!

And that poor cavalier being attached :(

Whichoneisit · 06/01/2015 21:09

Attacked!

gailforce1 · 06/01/2015 21:19

Poor, poor Ralph at the end in his cage.

muttynutty · 06/01/2015 21:21

TBH these are very similar scenarios I see on a daily basis at work. Most owners with the correct information turn around to be excellent owners and the dogs well trained. I do worry about Byron though and the training methods that the owner has been introduced to.

PasstheDaimbars · 06/01/2015 21:22

While I agree it's all in the editing even so who gets a Weimaraner for a 10 year old????

And poor little Bryon. .

I reckon we saw less of the collie because I bet Dad was jumping in pretty quickly. If he trains prize winners he's not going to want his son to have a badly trained dog.

Stewie, well he's going to be that very cute but spoilt pain in the arse.

And Stan what a dote!

Lola, I reckons she actually quite a bright dog, having a job will suit her, it's if her owner is trained too??

I love dogs, I grew up with dogs, that's why we don't have one, we both work full time. We have cats who sit waiting for us to leave, and get a snit on on the days I work from home.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:24

I was seething at the way Byron's owner kept shrieking 'no, no, no!' at him. Dogs don't come with set commands. Hmm

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 06/01/2015 21:25

Well that was painful. I've never had a puppy, always had older rescue dogs, who bring their own challenges, but at least now if I ever get a pup I will know some things NOT to do.

I think some were clueless, but I was most worried by Bryons owner, she seemed to really really dislike him. Sad

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 06/01/2015 21:27

Yes Stan was gorgeous. And Ralph was lovely too, hopefully the help they got will be of benefit for such a smart dog.

muttynutty · 06/01/2015 21:27

The weimeramer was fed on Bakers - good evidence to show why it is such crap food and alters behaviour - even if it is given via a milk carton!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:28

She couldn't have had less of a clue if she'd tried.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/01/2015 21:29

Byron's owner I mean.
