I'm feeling rather sorry for some of the puppies.

But MrsDe - Luke Skywalker DID have a mangled hand (well, it got chopped off). Now your DS2's Luke is true to the story Grin

Cocolepew · 07/01/2015 17:21

That's true about them losing interest.
Some of the owners were plonkers Hmm

insanityscratching · 07/01/2015 17:23

Grinstaffle

Have to say Mrs De Eric has ensured dd and the others tidy their stuff away far quicker and more effectively than I have ever managed previously.

ScrummyPup · 07/01/2015 17:39

^^ Exactly! Perfect way to get a teen to stop leaving his things all over the house!

SistersOfPercy · 07/01/2015 17:49

Percy pup made short work of DH's wallet last year when he was teething. Fortunately he had no cash in it but his driving licence is beautifully chewed at one corner Grin

Cured DH of leaving his wallet on the arm of the sofa though.

Cocolepew · 07/01/2015 18:06

Mollydog never chewed up anything and she's part lab Shock

Hillingdon · 07/01/2015 18:09

Once caught rottie chewing on a 50 note. Luckily we managed to get it back and were able to use it!

People who dont have dogs really dont recognise how their life will change, if you ignore your puppy they will start to look at other things to amuse themselves with, like your wall, chewing your table/chairs and sofa, toys, clothes, shoes, rugs, boots, remote controls (the list goes on an on!).

If I hear one more person saying they will get a dog for their children I will scream - get a dog because YOU want a dog. Your child will lose interest and will never do a poo patrol around the garden or go out in all weathers, they just wont!

Wroguewriter · 07/01/2015 18:12

You defiantly need to train your children how to play and be with the pup as well, they are good fun if you persist and they can do training with them. I realise unlike computer games there is no instant gratification but seeing my 9 year old DS do training with our puppy and how much they both enjoy this is brilliant.
It would be good if a programme like this showed this, that it is possible to make progress without that spray can thing which I'm not sure of really.

QueenBean · 07/01/2015 18:33

Just watched this on catch up - shocked at the naïvety of some of these owners!

Definitely! Eric is dd's dog however responsibility for him is mine and dh's. Dd named him, talks to him, plays with him (when she wants to) and loves him everything else is down to us which is no more than we expected tbh.
When Eric was a nippy pup dd didn't really enjoy spending much time with him tbh whereas now because he's gentle and he's easy to teach tricks to she really loves having a dog but I'd never expect her to be responsible for his welfare.

Humansatnav · 07/01/2015 18:49

Our puppy is coming home in a month, so I watched with interest. I know know what not to do !
I have been reading/ watching/ speaking to experienced puppy owners ( my dm has lurchers and collies from puppies & a friend breeds terriers).
Will be watching again tonight in hopes that Byrons owner now has a clue.

Some dogs are puppies forever! Boxers and Springers spring to mind..

punter · 07/01/2015 19:38

We too watched the first episode in horror, why didn't Byrons owner get a rabbit or similar? Never saw her partner either. I tried end to remind my DH about punter lab's first six months with us, he had forgotten about the biting and toilet mistakes, amazing!
So glad we are past puppyhood even if punter lab sometimes thinks he is still a puppy when playing in the park.

insanityscratching · 07/01/2015 19:53

Punter I'm really glad the puppy days have one too, it's more a pleasure having a dog now rather than a chore as it was much of the time back then. Both dh and I said whilst watching last night, there will be no more puppies here our next dog will be full grown when we get him.

Stewie looks like a mop when he refuses to walk

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/01/2015 20:17

That bloke had no control over that dog at all. Pick it up ffs! It's the size of a bag of sugar!

Hillingdon · 07/01/2015 20:18

Stewie is not funny, it's his owners, they really don't have a clue and why is everyone speaking to their dogs in whole sentences!

Why is he talking as though he is his baby and that he has his own traits!!

Cocolepew · 07/01/2015 20:19

Stewies owner talks like he gave birth to him. He's not going to have characteristics because he takes after him! Grin

Cocolepew · 07/01/2015 20:19

Xpost!

Hillingdon · 07/01/2015 20:21

If that was a big dog we wouldn't be laughing....

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/01/2015 20:23

Did you see those other dog owners when Stewie went haring up to them? They both immediately picked their dogs up out of the way. He's obviously quite well known already. Hmm
