Help - a Lovely but heavily pregnant Lurcher turned up at my door today

I know it's late & I know there's a thread for pointy hound lovers, but I seem to have acquired a heavily pregnant Lurcher, she was lurking round my house all day - very rural no near neighbours, every time I looked out the door she was there, very underfed but sweet & extremely sociable, after about three hours I crumbled & fed her, at which point I noticed she was HEAVILY pregnant & rather skinny.

I've taken her to the Vets', no chip, no report, so she's come back here, she had a show of mucus at the vets' and has been intermittently been panting very heavily, I've phoned the vet again (who luckily are personal friends) who told me how to do an internal, couldn't feel anything yet, so I guess it's just a waiting game.

I've had dogs in the past, but DOGS, never bitches & I've never whelped a pup in me life.

Help & hand-holds would be lovely.

Thank you for updating.

Poor girl, she must wonder what on earth is going on in her tummy with all that wriggling around. Let's hope she goes into labour soon.

coffeeinbed · 31/10/2014 14:03

Any puppies?
Come on Mabli!

rachmultiplemum · 31/10/2014 14:41

Nope, still waiting

TheFantasticMrsFox · 31/10/2014 19:52

Gah!!!!

AcrossthePond55 · 31/10/2014 20:09

Bless her poor little heart.

OK, I'll start a pool. I predict that 6 puppies will appear on 11/3. I'm in the US so I bet $10.00 to be donated to my local chapter of the SPCA if I'm wrong. You all can bet donations to HoundsFirst!

rachmultiplemum · 31/10/2014 21:17

Beached whale? Or pregnant lurcher?

AimlesslyPurposeful · 31/10/2014 21:34

She must be so fed up and uncomfortable.

Come on puppies!

SnakeyMcBadass · 31/10/2014 21:43

Bless her. She's huge Shock I hope the birth goes smoothly.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 31/10/2014 21:51

Oh look at her, I've been following her on FB every day whilst I've been away with the DCs, I think tonight, can't believe it was nearly two weeks ago I found her and the vet thought she was imminent then, makes me very glad I didn't go over with any of mine.

Good luck Mabs, thinking of you lots here.

Poor Mabli's foster family too - no sleep for them for so long! She looks like such a lovely dog though (except for the homicidal cat tendencies obviously!)

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 03:56

Puppies are on their way! We have 5 so far!

Aghaidh · 01/11/2014 04:14

Oh excellent! Hope they're all doing well

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 04:22

6!

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 04:24

A few pups. Collars are so we can tell them apart and monitor growth.

Ohfourfoxache · 01/11/2014 04:42

Oh bless her!

saffronwblue · 01/11/2014 04:57

Congratulations mabli! Well done!

Ulysses · 01/11/2014 05:01

Delurking on this lovely thread to pass on my congratulations to
Mabli, wonderful news. Well done to all of you involved.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/11/2014 05:12

Oh! Puppies! At last. Hope Mabli is doing ok.

You know we need more photo's don't you?

GayByrne · 01/11/2014 05:20

Loving this thread! Have donated half of my kindle fund to the justgiving page! It looked like it was doing just fine. Even throughout a pretty awful night with poorly nearly 2 yo and now a poorly me, her plight touched me. I can't imagine being so vulnerable and so cast aside like I was nothing.

But what a clever girl to ensure her and her babies are ok. It probably took all the courage she had to greet you OP. She's obviously a born mother...! (unlike me!!).

Honestly, thank you. We, my sickly little cuddler, and I think you're all heroes. Hope the scratch/chunk out of your arm starts to mend soon OP.

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 05:30

Thank you so much GayByrne xx

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 05:30

Here you go :-) 5 dogs and 1 bitch

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 01/11/2014 05:41

Yay, Mabli!

GayByrne · 01/11/2014 05:47

An excellent litter, if they'd have kept her, they'd have been thrilled! Did they all make it?

GayByrne · 01/11/2014 05:49

ps - I know that the people who dumped her are absolute bastards and deserve to never know the meaning of love from a dog ever again.

Plonkysaurus · 01/11/2014 06:09

Yay! I'm so pleased for Mabli, those puppies are very, very cute. The end of the pregnancy looked really hard but thank goodness they're here all mum and pups look well (although completely knackered).
