Should I reopen the happy place cafe?

I'm often awake in the night, today was a lie in for me, only properly awake since 4am.

In lockdown I opened, 'the happy place café where I would make virtual breakfasts and people would come to chat.

When it was last opened my French pastry chef Florence had married Fernando the cocktail waiter.

The kitten bees are inside because it is too old but the bumble cats are in the garden as usual.

SO should I reopen or was just something for lockdown?

A bit late but <hands over coffee and croissant> I've just reopened the water feature, it's a bit too cold to paddle but I have a selection of wellies if any children want to splash about.

Evening! Sorry to read you've been feeling a bit ill @sashh hope you're better now. Fernando, can I have a chocolate cocktail or two? I feel like I'm going to be up for a while

AliceOlive · 31/05/2023 04:20

I’d love coffee and croissant also. The water feature is great! But worry you are doing too much and wearing yourself out.

TokyoSushi · 31/05/2023 04:23

Morning! Woken at 3 by the car and can't get back to sleep so an early check in for anything you have sashh please.

I'm going to rest in a comfy armchair in the corner with a blanket and see if I can nod off.

TokyoSushi · 31/05/2023 04:23

*cat! 🙄

MinnieMountain · 31/05/2023 05:01

Morning @TokyoSushi .
I’ve popped over from France as I’m awake and the family are not.
I'll have a rummage for almond croissants.
The bumble cats need some attention, so I’m going to throw toy mice for them.

sashh · 31/05/2023 05:53

Morning. This didn't post 2 hours ago - sorry about that.

I'm in the mood for fishy breakfasts so there will be

Kippers with butter.
Kedgeree.
Smoked salmon with scrambled egg.
Fried fish with Japanese sour plum pickle and rice.

Florence has made soda bread and, of course, croissants.

Fernando is making coffee based cocktails.

The water feature is on and there is outdoor heating in case it stays chilly but the kitten bees are venturing out.

Just found this. I love MN. I honestly would be lost without it.

Primrosefrill · 31/05/2023 06:37

Croissants please.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 31/05/2023 07:17

I think I dozed off on the chair for a bit there. I hope I wasn't snoring! I've never had kedgeree - can I try some of that? And lots of coffee too please xxx

sashh · 31/05/2023 07:25

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket You have never had kedgeree?
You are in for a treat.

@Primrosefrill croissants on the way.

@sashh please can I have a pair of kippers a buttered brown bread.
@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket , I hope you enjoy your first try of kedgeree, I really like it ( but fancy kippers today)

sashh · 31/05/2023 09:31

Kippers and brown bread on the way, would you like a little lemon?

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 31/05/2023 12:23

Ooh yes please

AliceOlive · 31/05/2023 13:56

I’d love to try the kedgeree also, please.

sashh · 01/06/2023 04:06

Morning.

<Makes note to make kedgeree more often>

Well I'm thinking a dairy / cheesy breakfast (IRL I'm lactose intolerant so OK with a bit of cheese)

Cheese on toast.
Greek style yoghurt with nuts or honey or fruit or mint.
Selection of Dutch and German cheeses.
Smoothies.
Hot chocolate.
Milky coffee.

Obviously Florence has made cheese twists and cheese straws.

Federico is making vodka and milk cocktails.

Morning sashh

I’d love a yogurt with nuts and honey and a milky coffee, please.

You seem chipper. Hope that means you are feeling better.

sashh · 01/06/2023 04:59

I am feeling better thank you, here you go yoghurt, mixed nuts and honey, I'll be back with the coffee.

MinnieMountain · 01/06/2023 05:16

That kedgeree was delicious.

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket Delia Smith has a good kedgeree recipe.

Could I have Greek yogurt, peaches and honey please @sashh ?

sashh · 01/06/2023 06:35

One yoghurt peaches and honey, on its way take a seat.

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 01/06/2023 12:48

Oh yoghurt, peaches and honey sounds divine, if you still have one available for lunch that would be lovely!

fivetriangulartrees · 02/06/2023 03:30

I haven't been in for a while, which makes me think I must have slept better, but the bags under my eyes tell a different story...

Anyhow, it looks like I've missed some splendid breakfasts. I remember how astonished I was years ago to discover toast and sprinkles when I was staying in the Netherlands. How decadent! How revolting! Ontbijtkoek on the other hand was a real delicacy and cost (at the time) about tuppence ha'penny for an arm's length of practically solid sugar.

This morning I have an ominous sore throat and a very busy day ahead, so what I really fancy is something cooling like peach Melba. Not a fancy one. The one I used to treat myself to in a greasy spoon in north London in my 20s: tinned peaches, vanilla ice cream, red sauce. Thank you!
