Should I reopen the happy place cafe?

I'm often awake in the night, today was a lie in for me, only properly awake since 4am.

In lockdown I opened, 'the happy place café where I would make virtual breakfasts and people would come to chat.

When it was last opened my French pastry chef Florence had married Fernando the cocktail waiter.

The kitten bees are inside because it is too old but the bumble cats are in the garden as usual.

SO should I reopen or was just something for lockdown?

It all sounds lovely. But I’m always going for the croissants. Can I take some soup for lunch?

MinnieMountain · 24/05/2023 05:36

It’s a bit early for spiciness for me too. I’d love some rice and soup for lunch though.
Apple cake would really hit the spot right now.

Flubadubba · 24/05/2023 06:37

I'll take the soup with a croussant in the side for the preschooler wgi has been up since 3...

Morning.

Well after the Asian adventure yesterday I think we should stay closer to home and have a look at the Netherlands.

So soft fresh bread from Florence covered in chocolate sprinkles. Eggy bread, toasted cheese and ham sandwiches, boiled eggs and ontbijtoek.

Obviously coffee and tea but try the tea with raspberry.

Yes please! And the soup was wonderful.

Erm, I must have run up quite a tab at this point.

AliceOlive · 25/05/2023 01:53

Oh gosh! I just realized you remind me of the lunch lady! There was a woman in/around Washington DC that had an answering machine you could call every day to hear the “Daily Specials”. She recorded a new super awesome message every day, describing the foot.

No clue how this came about or how the news spread, but it was delightful! Much like your Happy Place Cafe.

sashh · 25/05/2023 02:15

Alice there is no tab, no cost, no calories and no food poisoning.

Morning all
Bread with chocolate sprinkles and raspberry tea please. I probably drink too much coffee.
We’re going to France for half term. I’m sure the pastries won’t be as good as Florence’s (would I dare say otherwise 😁).

ScottBakula · 25/05/2023 08:39

Morning all,

Please can I have a cheese and ham toastie , what is ontibijtoek? I am intrigued

sashh · 26/05/2023 03:16

Morning.

Ontibijtoek is breakfast cake.

So where shall we go today for breakfast?

I think I fancy Morocco.

Khlea, olives, fried eggs, mortadella (made without pork) breads of various types and soft cheese.

Spiced mint tea is traditional but other teas and coffee are available.

NoTeaNoShade · 26/05/2023 04:18

Morning, is there any karak tea going with extra condensed milk?

Will take the Moroccan breakfast with pleasure 😀

sashh · 26/05/2023 05:52

Morning.

Another day of not being great IRL so please just ask F and F for whatever.

@sashh Hope you feel better soon!

As it's Saturday, I've popped a delivery of Bellini ingredients in the kitchen, along with a side of smoked salmon and fresh eggs from the garden.

Florence kindly agreed to make some bagels, which are currently in the oven. She also agreed to make some strawberry pancakes for the little one- yummy!

sashh · 28/05/2023 04:25

Morning.

Bagels what a good idea, I used to live in North London, bagels on a Saturday morning is something I have not had for a while so I'm going to keep them around for today, with the smoked salmon and cream cheese of course.

Optional peanut butter, scrambled eggs, pastrami, apple butter and avocardo.

Good morning all, I hope you are feeling better today @sashh.
I really like salmon and cream cheese but I am not keen on bagels, is there any chance of a small garden salad instead?

AliceOlive · 28/05/2023 13:28

Hope you feel better Sasha.

I’ve just ask F&F for an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and a cup of coffee.

For tomorrow I suggested, if they feel like it, one of my faves:
roasted turkey salad with sun dried tomatoes, avocado and Muenster cheese toasted on pita bread and topped with bean sprouts. It’s from a long-gone place called “The Sunshine Kitchen”.

sashh · 29/05/2023 04:00

Salad? Turkey? For breakfast?

OK I'll put it out as a buffett, watch out for kittenbees, I'll let them out into the garden but they might come back to nibble a cherry tomato.

Florence is making pita bread, flat breads, fluffy tandoori style roti.

Salads include Greek style with feta and olives, plates of cooked meat. Dips including hummus and garlic, cheese straws - actually if you hold them like a witch's wand the kitten bees will come and nibble along it as a group.

Fernando is slightly puzzled what o make so I have suggested fruit gins.

Obviously any of it can be made in to a pack up.

Brunch! Thank you!!

ScottBakula · 29/05/2023 06:05

A feta salad would be very nice thank you. Please can I have a lage glass of grapefruit juice too please

sashh · 30/05/2023 04:37

Morning.

OK so you lot seem to like lunch for breakfast so I'm just going to make a pile of sandwiches, hot and cold using Florence's selection of bread and Fernando will be maxing cocktails to order.

How lovely to be able to pop into your cafe when I'm awake early (as ususl) and the cat has gone off to check his territory.

A coffee and something to nibble on would be perfect.
