I think it’s the perfect time to end it now. If they did decide to do a season 5 I think if would only work if it was ten years into the future, perhaps Kate has aged and isn’t ‘perfectly beautiful’. Are they still in love after their powerful ten years? Henry is a teenager. Joe is basically John Lockward. How is their relationship and how far does he go to ‘protect’ his son. Does Henry try to find out more about his dad and then himself? Does he meet Juliette?
Nadia is also due release from prison. What’s it done to her?

I feel like they did this in The Affair and it didn't work. It was verging on the ridiculous.

Sometimes I think they go so far trying to keep things new and original that it ends up becoming silly.

cornflakegeneration · 15/03/2023 19:23

Are they still basing it on the books?

I only read the first book so not sure how many have been published now.

cornflakegeneration · 15/03/2023 19:24

@Newnamenewname109870 What did he say to Phoebe when?

SpookyBlackCat · 15/03/2023 22:59

I think the thing that Joe said to Phoebe was just an excuse by the writers because why would a group of friends like that suddenly start inviting Joe to join them everywhere? It didn’t make and sense. They never actually said what he said because Joe couldn’t remember and apparently no one thought to actually ask Phoebe.

Phoebe kept inviting Joe to stuff because she'd felt a connection after the stuff he said to her on the first night ~ when he got pissed and killed Kates boyfriend.

He's never been able to remember what he said and Phoebe has never said so 🤷‍♀️ Kate should have asked her, though knowing Phoebe it probably wasn't deep 😂

Joe basically did to Kate what Adam was trying to do with Phoebe. Got himself a rich wife.

Spoiler alert

just starting ep 8 now. At the end of ep 7 what on earth made the student girl thing to enter the abandoned building? She went to the restaurant then it just seemed like complete chance she decided to go in there, as opposed to her having a solid clue, or did I miss something?

I’m not quite finished either and was avoiding this thread til I had but it kept tempting me 😂

this is exactly what I thought. It’s been rushed and makes no sense now. Someone said something and she’s now suspicious… by chance someone else had a photo and she has found a huge part of the season. Which has turned it into a bit of a mess really I was hoping this wasn’t the way it would turn out but it’s just gone way too silly now and it’s probably best it’s coming to an end.

plus Kates dad… not the sort of conversation anyone would have on first meeting someone but they’ve tried to make him out to be a big bad rich man so… 🤷🏻‍♀️

will watch the last 2 as too invested now 😂 plus I’ve mentioned before but Rhys is my eye candy and I’ve not had any eye candy for years 😂 so hoping he appears in the last 2 episodes 🤞

SpookyBlackCat · 16/03/2023 02:22

Sorry for all the spoilers!

I didn’t understand why Kate wanted to marry Joe. I get what she said about how she’s changed for the better since they’ve been together but he’s a serial killer. That must surely have been a massive red flag that he isn’t why he pretends to be. It seemed a bit flimsy to me. My first thought was oh no is Kate another Love, which would have made more sense, but isnt Kate a good person? I’m wondering if the whole thing would make more sense with a re-watch, which I might do someday.

Well, I guess the storyline was that she made decisions working for her dad that caused deaths. So she's trying to be a good person but saw herself as a monster. I think she said something about not actually feeling that bad about it, but I may be misremembering.

So, taking on equally monstrous Joe and "keeping each other good" is the driver.

Gives him a good excuse to murder her next series when he "realises"/decides she's evil again.

Yeah I was guessing it would have been something involving his true identity as Joe but we never found out and now she is happily teaching English to Thai school children

UpToonGirl · 16/03/2023 13:40

I feel like for Kate it's a big leap from she made terrible business decisions that resulted in the deaths of children to feeling like an actual killer is on a similar level so you can both forgive and move on together.

I still like the idea Love has Joe in the box and he's just having random hallucinations.

I'm hoping next season is the last and they can find a way to wrap it up well. S3 took a few episodes for me to get into but I really enjoyed it by the end so it's a bit gutting this season hasn't quite lived up to it.

BitchBrigade · 16/03/2023 14:00

I am so disappointed with how the show turned out. This season is like an entirely different show altogether.

I thought it would be about Joe pursuing Marianne and, despite being in PARIS (not London where he seems to be able to walk from down near Surrey to central London in an hour?!!?!?!?) his past was fast catching up to him, but he couldn't stop his obsession with Marianne. I thought it was going to go really deep into Joes Psyche, get a bit more serious, involve his child somewhat,, climax in a big conflicting stand-off and wrap the whole thing up in a nice neat bow as a series finale. Almost a bit like The Fall did with Spector., really delve into things.

Massive disappointment.

Phoebo · 16/03/2023 19:20

I'm confused with the peanuts in the coffee for Marianne (or did he imagine that?). I've finished it now. I thought the plot was great in theory but it wasn't executed well, a couple of nice twists, but too many holes, it's dragged at the beginning, then seemed rushed. Didn't quite work

He imagined it. Harking back to Benji, I think.

MissJam · 16/03/2023 22:13

Finally finished it, I think it’s run it’s course now, seemed way too silly in the end. Definitely paved the way for series 5 though didn’t it… I wonder if Marianne will kill him in the end?

burnoutbabe · 17/03/2023 19:37

Just finished.

What was Kate feeling guilty about? Sone deaths her decision caused? Was more detail given than that?

And did she not realise joe killed her dad? She guessed Rhys but seemed to speak of another person killing her dad! Talk about dumb!

I will of course be in for season 5.

Whenharrymetsmelly · 17/03/2023 21:25

I thought the "saving the world" by having an art gallery was quite hilarious. This season was a let down, so cheesy

category12 · 25/03/2023 10:15

That’s good it’s been confirmed as the final one. I already think season 4 has meant it will perhaps have overrun its course and end on a bad note but maybe they’ll be able to turn it around

Tirrrrred · 26/03/2023 22:51

I don't understand why he began using his real name and being interviewed on tv. Did the police not ask why he fled the country on fake passports? Did he kill Love?

user1471543094 · 27/03/2023 11:59

Just finished up. Soooo many holes I don't even know where to start.
Far too much going on in the last episode.

My main issue was Kate - so unlikeable. I just didn't buy into her at all. And to be fair, neither did Joe. He never even liked her at the start - she just seemed to pursue him and he fell into the relationship. It never really felt strong.
And I agree with PP's about her makeup and appearance...in an aesthetically pleasing show, the bad makeup and very normal appearance seemed at odds with all the other characters, from this series and every other series. She seemed 10 years older than everyone else in the group of friends and it was so hard to invest in her/them. I feel the point may have been to make her different from all his previous obsessions but it all felt off.

Nadia in the last episode felt so Scooby Doo-ish, running about breaking into his apartment, coming up with silly plans. Completely ridiculous that she wouldn't phone the cops from the get go on Marianne's (flimsy) request.

And going back to being (high profile) Joe and implying that money could wipe any trace of anything. Weren't Love's family rich as well? Not like they were some Nobodies with no voice. If they sent an investigator to find him and then he appeared Everywhere, I am sure they would have something to say about his reappearing.

But weirdly, I still enjoyed it. Even though it annoyed me no end.

cornflakegeneration · 27/03/2023 12:23

Just really hope they pull it back for Season 5.

SpookyBlackCat · 27/03/2023 13:22

Yes, a lot of plot holes! I know The Met have a shitty reputation but London is riddled with CCTV. It’s hard to imagine so much body disposal without the police noticing something odd on CCTV.

Sherry and Cary were so much fun compared to this lot and I missed Love. She was so delightfully bonkers.

I’ve ordered the book. I’m interested to see how it differs from the show.

Apparently, there will be new show runners for the fifth and final season, so hopefully they will do a good job!

UpToonGirl · 27/03/2023 19:36

@SpookyBlackCat I hated sherry and cary at first but by the end I was rooting for them. I didn't root for any character this time round, tbh I didn't even care about marianne when she could have been rescued and she chose to go for a crazy plan.

I know she had her reasons but I would chance Joe tracking me down, to doing a juliet, what if he had decided to chop up her body as he did with the others? She couldn't possibly have guessed he would leave her body to be found for her daughters sake.

Agree with everyone's saying Nadia made so many leaps to get to Joe being a murderer. It would have been so much better for her to remain suspicious but not so involved, then research him next season and put it all together, including tracking down Ellie.

Watching the ending now…the whole thing has been as ridiculous as the last season of Pretty Little Liars!!
