Spoiler alert

just starting ep 8 now. At the end of ep 7 what on earth made the student girl thing to enter the abandoned building? She went to the restaurant then it just seemed like complete chance she decided to go in there, as opposed to her having a solid clue, or did I miss something?

I had the exact same question!!

She's also a terrible character who really gets on my nerves 😬 and can't act

Proudofitbabe · 11/03/2023 00:39

I've finished! Time for my rant

God that was rubbish. First half was like spoof city, second half just soo slow. Feel like I hung on for the typical scary/dramatic You payoff, but it never came.

I was beyond SICK of Rhys. Talk about overkill.

I think a big mistake this season made was writing in eight ton of characters and all were crap, even Joe.

Reflecting on it all, most of it was pointless, having no link to anything. So much was made of Phoebe, and it was all just... so? Kate and her history, her dad, I can't say I really get it and can't be bothered to. I didn't care for Kate at all. And it seemed to go on forever. Yet the actual relevant storyline with Nadia was basically covered off in a few rushed mins.

I get they wanted to try something different and fair enough, but I think they should have called it done at the last season. Without the scary stalker angle it's not You! No need for S5.

Maves · 11/03/2023 00:41

She's from Tracey beaker.....but yes very disappointing not the sane vibe at all as previous seasons and joe was never that evil for what he did at the end! It's like they completely changed his character in a way.,,,,,,it was all a bit mmmmmmm

XelaM · 11/03/2023 02:18

@Proudofitbabe I completely agree. It's so terribly bad that I'm quite speechless as I really liked Season 3. But Season 4 was SO SO SO BAD! Everything about it: all the characters, the utterly nonsensical plot, the acting, Rhys, Kate, the annoying student, the whole insane story with Marienne. It was all SO BAD! And absolutely nothing made any sense.

category12 · 11/03/2023 07:45

Watched the second half of the series last night. I quite enjoyed it, although I know it was bonkers.

But it's not like the previous series hadn't jumped the shark totally. 😀

Yes, that didn't really make any sense, finding the key, then the restaurant then the hideaway. It was too much of a leap. Also how on earth did Joe find that space and manage to secure it, get the equipment for the glass box down there, transport Marianne from the train station when he first drugged her and hold down a full time job?!

I think the thing the first season had going for it was that it felt realistic. I think stalkers are terrifying and to use someone like Penn Bagely who could be any average guy, managing to insert his life into Beck's, you could see it happening. Obviously it's a show so there were lots of twists and turns but the overall storyline was basic. This season has been waaaay too unrealistic both in characters (Kate being so calm when she found her dead friend, the awful 'rich kids') and the overall plot which now has Joe being a public figure.

Also do we know if the PI who tracked Joe down in the first episode was in his imagination as that always felt odd.

cornflakegeneration · 11/03/2023 13:17

Why do I absolutely detest the character of Kate?

Was really hoping she was going to be one of the victims

Kate is the most unlikable and unfunny of all his romantic interests. She also looks old and washed out

And her make up was horrendous too? Do we think this was deliberate?

category12 · 11/03/2023 13:25

It's weird , isn't it? Charlotte Ritchie is quite likeable in Ghosts and other things I've seen her in, but she was not at all in this. It was hard to see why he liked her.

Although to be fair, pretty much all the characters are vile and you want them to die in this. 😆

I suppose so you can empathise with your stalker-murderer.

And also the door was just unlocked?! Or did I see that wrong?

There's no way in the centre of London there wouldn't have been a homeless person either sleeping in that doorway or inside for that matter if the door was just open.

cornflakegeneration · 11/03/2023 13:27

I'm sorry for all the comments but things are just popping into my head.

Like how did Joe get a custom built glass cage down there without anyone batting an eyelid?

Yes - it was purely the hazard tape to keep people out 😂

It's pretty unrealistic the other times he achieved the same, tbf.

Yes and what is Love's dad going to say about things now he's back as Joe?

Too. Many. Questions.

Such a shame as every other series I have loved and had been really looking forward to this one.

Flavabobble · 11/03/2023 22:05

I think Kate was meant to be a prickly unapproachable character with a deep mistrust of others - due to her father.
I also don't think she looked old or washed out. Kind of irrelevant to a critique and quite nasty.

Why Nadia didn't call the police continued to baffle me through the rest of the episodes.

Not only did he manage to construct that glass box but he dismantled it and got rid in an insane amount of time. All apparently without access to transport.

Proudofitbabe · 11/03/2023 22:23

I was wondering how Joe knew Nadia was on to him? He's not omnipotent, and only we as the viewer had seen much of her.

Then the way he was right there ready to ambush her, having already jumped her BF and planted evidence. And was that before or after his suicide attempt?! Surely it was after, as he wouldn't have any need to frame Nadia if he planned on dying. That whole part was way too convenient, seemed to come from nothing.

I think there were a few scenes where he had guessed she was onto him by some of the things she was saying. Then he must have seen them breaking in.

Proudofitbabe · 11/03/2023 22:38

But he was ready to jump them coming out of his apartment, having already planted evidence to frame Nadia. So he must have been on to her before she broke in. I'm just wondering when all this happened as he'd been very preoccupied with everything else, Nadia wasn't really a feature in his scenes.

TinfoilTangerine · 11/03/2023 22:49

Ridiculous, although I did watch it all so can't have been that bad. Why didn't Nadia call the police? How on earth did Marianne's phone still have charge?

LikeTearsInRain · 12/03/2023 00:32

Spoiler alert

This season felt like a long roundabout way to more or less nothing other than setting him up with a billionaire. I hope the next season is better - I suppose it is now set up with Joe back to his usual psycho self really with some kind of deluded mission of improving the world. But I would have also been happy if he had died and the show called it a day, as this season has made me think it’s run its course. The first 3 were so different in their own ways and built the story nicely and the finale of season 3 was so tense, whereas here it felt like there were zero stakes.

Ending at 3 could have been a nice open ending of Joe searching the world… a psycho out there, having got away with it all.

Prinnny · 12/03/2023 07:50

I’ve mixed emotions about it. Lots of unanswered questions mainly about Nadia! It seemed a bit rushed at the end, like when you had to write a story in English class and time was nearly up so you put ‘and then I woke up and it was all a dream’

I can’t see where it’s going to go next, although this series was so different to the others, I really hope it’s not more persuing marrianne. I think he should have died and that be the end.

I think he must have already been into her but they just didn't show us that part. And it looked like they were parked quite far away so by the time she got back to the car he'd unalived Ed.

Remember Marienne kept telling her not to do I think she didn't want to betray her.
