Starting a new thread as can't seem to find one yet, and suddenly feeling very aware that we are likely only days away from line up announcements!

Who do we all think will be on the line up this year? I thought last year was one of the best line ups, a good mix.

Rumours so far include Gino D'Campo, Scarlett Moffat, Steph McGovern, Dawn French..

The first announcements last year were on Wednesday 4th August, so hopefully the same again this year..

Did anyone else listen to Matt Goss' interview on radio 2 this morning with Katie Piper ? He's soooo full of himself

Were we expecting anything less? I thought that was his UPS? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2022 12:48

Or USP even. Hmm He's not a parcel deliver company.

😁😁😁😁

Think his sob story dance might be about his late mum

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2022 14:14

I must be getting to be a heartless auld trout but I tire of ‘story’ dances.

Bring the emotion to the dance, not the story. Pay your tribute by dancing beautifully. and then a quick ‘that was for you mam, Nan, Tiddles’. It is plenty.

I just don’t need stories. I’d rather have a tutorial.

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2022 14:27

I hate all the pre dance- in/training 'oh look here's your children/Mum/dog/best friend etc come to see you rehearse videos. Just get on with it.
If I was in charge the dancers would appear with their names on the screen and do the dance, as soon as it's over straight to judges comments and scores, then the next couple.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2022 14:37

Me too. They don’t need a story. Bairnz.. Nanz. Adversity.

They just need a bit of rhythm. And a contract.

If they want to publicise their life/business/partner etc then you don’t get a fee. (Conrad Knight Socks)

Watch them stories dry up and it being all about the love of dancing.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 15:16

Oh, I agree. Everyone has a story or a journey, it can get somewhat mawkish in the hands of Tess and Claudia.
Focus on the dance!.

I'd rather have the VT's where they actually talk about the training and the actual dance , I think during Covid they actually had more serious VT's as they obviously couldn't go off and do random things or have family intrude etc.

I think it would be a pretty boring show if there were no extra bits though and purely dancing.

Just seen this about Helen Skelton on Apple news...

In a 2016 interview, she was asked to reveal a little known secret about herself, and she explained: “I won a Ken Dodd tap-dance award when I was 17 .”
And she later added: “Not a lot of people know this, but I’m very good at tap dancing. People are often amazed I can tap dance.”

MinglingFlamingo · 21/08/2022 15:37

That's why I like earlier weeks. There's no time for filler of your best mate /
Cast member who danced in a previous series to watch you rehearse or let's go rehearse at a fairground as the dance is set at the fair. Because we have to get through 13 dances

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2022 15:41

I agree coveting - it would be dry without wee vts.

i would love ‘how to’/common mistakes/what to watch out for/how the dresses are made, why the shoes are how they are/how a dance evolved rather than Great Aunt Gertie’s next door neighbour’s fight with the council about their gnomes trauma though.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 15:42

Yes, I'd love more about costume and make up. They're both such fantastic parts of the show. Also "how to".

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2022 15:44

I would watch it live more often if it was like that, as it is I watch on catch up and whizz through the boring VTs and the Tess bits.

SequinsandStilettos · 21/08/2022 21:53

As I said, they all have to get in line for dead relly warz cos at least four* of the cast are doing it for someone...
Scepticism aside, as long as production don't go overboard then one dedication a piece, would be the kind thing to do and the cast can support each other.
I do admire Alexandra Burke and Kelly Brook though, who both went through the mill in their respective seasons, but insisted production did not exploit it. Same for Ugo, dancing 24 hours after his father's funeral.
The 4 current cast members have all been through a lot but not sure they will all do a bespoke dance. Greg did but Judi iirc just briefly mentioned her dad.
*
Fleur: dad (died 2020, heart attack, he loved the show, Fleur wants to honour him)
Jayde: sister (died 2011, brain tumour at 28, after seizure at 23, they used to freestyle disco-dance together. Jayde has not danced with anyone else since)
Matt: mum (died 2014, breast cancer, loved Strictly and last words to Matt were wanting to see him smile from his eyes again. He nursed her throughout)
Will: dad (died 2020, two weeks after cancer diagnosis, Will wants to grab life and create new memories for his Mum, who loves the show).
I suspect Jayde will have the disco couple's choice and the vt will include the photos of her and her sister. And I will bawl my eyes out. Whereas Will will have his Mum in the audience. Matt and Fleur may dance to their loved ones favourite songs... The only thing that will offend me is Tess's sympathy, which always comes across as Cartman "tears so sweet". That said, she means well and when she annoys me, I try to remember how beautifully she paid tribute to Bruce.

Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2022 23:10

I am interested to see how HS’s current personal situation will be covered. If at all.

SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 01:37

It won't be, surely, given it's acrimonious. You will maybe have the regaining mojo arc/confidence journey (alluding to it but not mentioning, as with Ranvir) and you'll definitely get baby mentioned.
But I doubt she will reycle Carol's Wash that man right out of my hair music. Or Susan's Shout out to my ex iirc. Lordy, I hope not.
If she is paired with Neil, hopefully no infidelity narrative: he had that with the godawful Would I lie to you tango.Grin Oof.
Same as Searching, Gimme a man after midnight or Must have been love would be inappropriate. However....
I have to confess, if Helen herself decided to throw shade and chose to hard tango to Britney's Womaniser, as an angry empowered woman scorned, I would give her all three votes in a heartbeat. <3 <3 <3

SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 01:43
Like this, but fiercer.
SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 01:50
Yep. Like this. After confiscating Neil's rugby ball prop. Bless, Neil does not look like a womaniser though, Gio or Vito maybe.
SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 02:04

Ashley also lost her father, I forgot, she got emotional after her Unsteady contemporary and some people were mean.
On DWTS I think they have used Dance with my father before. Derek also choreoed her freestyle routine for Bindi to honour Steve Irwin. Production showed a photo of him with Bindi, when she was small, which made her burst into tears (not sure they warned her).

SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 02:15

But the one I recall as being, a bit intrusive, was Mark Ballas dancing with Lindsey Stirling wearing her father's hat and scarf. He had died of cancer earlier that year and she danced in honour of her dad in "most memorable year" themed week.

SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 02:34

I don't lile the schmaltz of DWTS's memorable year week but Strictly are marking Beeb's centenary at Blackpool with iconic TV themes week/services to the UK.
So am guessing poor Helen has to dance to Blue Peter theme, poor James to Eastenders theme, Molly and Hamza to some cbeebies shite and some poor sod has to recycle Kevin's Tardis
I know on gogglebox, people often joke about bopping to the news beeps but this themed week is giving me full body cringe. God knows what Dianne has got in store Wink

SequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2022 03:15

like

Plus define iconic. Are they really going to choreo to Antiques Roadshow or Grandstand themes?! Surely too soon to recycle Downton or Only fools and horses?
Prokofiev (Apprentice theme) might get recycled (Sophie used it iirc) as could Graeme's Soul Limbo.
But that Blackpool Week is going to be a hard slog for me! Services, I guess they could do a generic news one and weather one, as well as cbeebies.
If I were Jayde, I would be asking to disco dance to Donna Summer's On the radio! That's a certified banger! Grin Plus you could do a sequin jumpsuit reveal after the initial sad bit...
