Starting a new thread as can't seem to find one yet, and suddenly feeling very aware that we are likely only days away from line up announcements!

Who do we all think will be on the line up this year? I thought last year was one of the best line ups, a good mix.

Rumours so far include Gino D'Campo, Scarlett Moffat, Steph McGovern, Dawn French..

The first announcements last year were on Wednesday 4th August, so hopefully the same again this year..

OP posts:

Ooooo I was thinking that perhaps a Winter Olympian who retired after last games might be a possibility

Martin Fowler - James Bye - is the compulsory Eastender! That’ll be quite fun, I think. He must feel the pressure a bit though, following Rose!

MrsJamin · 12/08/2022 08:25

So far 7 men, 7 women. Surely there's only 1 more announcement to go? There's normally 15, right?

From what I imagine their personalities to be like, I think there will be a lot of friendly banter about it!

Aww I like him I watched some EE YouTube stuff he did seems a nice guy.

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2022 09:31

I once saw the last "Martin Fowle"r in cineworld his girlfriend was Scottish and she lived locally. That Is my rubbish celeb spotting story i

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2022 10:12

So that's the full line up. I am not particularly wowed TBH, but will watch for Matt and Will. On catch up probably so I can whizz past Tess and the pre dance weird film bits with the children in.

Maireas · 12/08/2022 10:23

I only know of a couple of the contestants, but to be honest, it's the same every year, but you get to know them as time goes on. I'd never heard of Rose, John or Ugo, but was rooting for them!

EsmaCannonball · 12/08/2022 11:01

Has anyone read the Shirley Jackson short story The Lottery? I always think there must be a scene reminiscent of that, around April time, on the Eastenders set.

I've never heard of most of them every year. I don't see how it matters and I don't get this complaint of 'oh I'm so disappointed, I haven't heard of them' – the whole attraction of a reality show surely is that you get to decide who you like and don't like as it goes on?

I can't remember having not heard of a sleb on SCD then going on to root for them to win. I like to have at least heard of them from the outset.

Maireas · 12/08/2022 11:57

See, I'd never heard of Rose, but I really was rooting for her by the end!

Me too. Also Ore Oduba, Chris Hollins, Darren Gough, Aleesha Dixon... and I often root for others who end up not winning. I've almost never heard of about 90% of them. I couldn't care less what they do in their day job; I get into them through their dancing. interviews, behind-the-scenes stuff etc during the show.

I don't think I'd heard of Alesha, who was my favourite ever contestant. Or Jay, Kara, Danny, Kelvin.

EsmaCannonball · 12/08/2022 13:08

I, too, often end up supporting the ones I'd never heard of (Rose, Danny Mac, etc.) but the whole premise of the show hinges upon seeing people who are famous in one context perform in a completely different context. IMO, the programme works better if you are thinking, 'Wow! I can't believe Mark Ramprakash is dancing like this!' or, 'Yep, that's a former cabinet minister doing a crazy salsa.' It's never quite as satisfying if you are just getting to know the celebrity through the show.

But the show is always very clear (one might say hits you over the head repeatedly) about what their day jobs are. Clips of their dance partner coming to train in their breaks at work, clips of them at work, endless to-camera bits of them saying 'I'm a footballer/TV presenter, I don't know a samba from a sandwich!', dances themed to their area of work...

Me too! She is just a joy to watch dancing.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/08/2022 14:49

Love Rose.

The frilly lizard thing is still done in this house whenever folk get flappy.

She is fun and talented and lovely to watch. And the partnership was a treat. 😍

I haven’t really sat down and watched soaps for decades. I know the character of Martin - just not the chap. Probably a completely different actor 🤷🏻‍♀️

I will probably gravitate towards someone and that’ll be me.

SoupDragon · 12/08/2022 15:07

Rose came across as a genuinely lovely person.

I saw James Bye as himself when they did "Secrets of the Square" during lockdown. He seemed like a nice enough person who likes a laugh. Could all have been an act mind you.

MrsJamin · 12/08/2022 15:52

We're at 14, there's normally 15? Have they said it's complete?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/08/2022 16:07

All chat is on about the 15th and final being announced today.

Given the speculation it won’t be a surprise…

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2022 16:54

Are we still waiting on Helen Skelton?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/08/2022 17:09

Apparently so. 🥴

I’m hoping it is all wrong.

I’m not sure that the supposed love hunt will make it happy viewing for me.

Just park her with Johannes and let her heal then shine.
