That's exactly it, Sheldon, and in fact Katya said that she felt very sorry about the impact on Neil, and that she'd hurt him.

The problem with Seann isn't the drunken snog behind the bins. It's the fact that according to his girlfriend he'd bailed on her birthday to do it, having spent the previous few weeks abusively gaslighting her and calling her a psycho for suspecting something was going on.

As far as we know Katya didn't do any of that to Neil.

I never know the young guys either, and frankly neither do the rest of the Strictly-watching demographic. I think he's a bit of a ringer, but he'll need to be, given that he's probably not a vote-magnet (unless he's got a fantastically relatable and attractive personality and a self-deprecating sense of humour).

I unfairly wrote Nikita off at first sight as young and vapid, but he turned out to be very sweet, funny and supportive. Would like him to do well this year. I'm also fond of Karen and forgive her her brief Muppet-Show phase mugging along with Janette; I think she was having a hard time and that was how she expressed it. She's a class act.

Sorry I mentioned Seann. I was explaining why I thought he would not be placed in a same-sex relationship unless he ever requested it.
He did a whole show about the furore but he did not do a whole put down of Neil. In the first show he did, he mentioned being famous for kissing a gay dancer's wife.
In the second show, this was changed to he would have been better off had he sucked off her husband, he'd have been a hero. This was in the context of Philip Schofield having been heralded as brave when he came out, despite having cheated on his wife.

Rebecca Humphries (last seen in Call my agent remake) has brought out a very successful book about self determination and self esteem, four years after.
Katya has continued her job on Strictly, got punished with Mike (!) and some negative PR with the AT last year but by and large came out of it with career intact.
Seann has had, rightly or wrongly, his career entirely railroaded. He will always be linked to that scandal, was cancelled thereafter and has lost everything he was building up.
If you watch all of Kiss, you might feel he got his just deserts. I felt he went through the mill without showing it at the time.
