I was just coming on to say it was just on! On 47. Even though I’d read the thread I still did a double take and was confused 😂

Rummikub · 02/02/2023 20:59

Im confused by this weeks. It was a bit of declutter and storage. They’d’ve been better off on the Stacey programme!

NCTDN · 02/02/2023 21:02

The link further up shows the attic bedroom completely the same as the end of the show, but those photos were from when it was listed for sale 3 years ago. Surely they never just rearranged things for the beginning of filming to show a difference-- at the end and manage to get an hours worth of publicity--

I thought exactly the same about the daughter's loft bedroom. She was already pretty much up in it before Kirstie and Phil even got there imho.

Fizbosshoes · 02/02/2023 23:50

I watched it on catch up so didn't see them in the ad.
I found the whole scenario quite weird. They bought 5 years ago and spent (I imagine sizeable sum of) money doing the kitchen/making open plan.....but didn't factor in a downstairs loo or utility. Why would you not, when you're doing work anyway?
Then she said she's wanted to sell it for 3 years....so how long did they ever plan to stay? 1 year? 2 years? Why have the upheaval of all that work if you're not planning to stay - unless it's a quick renovation and sell on at a profit (which it clearly wasn't!!)
And open plan didn't work for them.....but they only wanted to look at houses....that were also open plan?

And the "improvements" were very underwhelming. 4k on shelves? Me and DH guessed £500 for that (although DH loves a bit of DIY so we're hopeless with guessing labour costs) And yes they definitely needed doors on their wardrobes. Surely that wouldn't have blown the budget...? And although we have a standard double bed, I thought downsizing a bed was really scraping the barrel.

Dulra · 03/02/2023 10:06

I couldn't believe it when they said that the storage was a bargain at only £4k! What a rip off. It was custom made though. The price to get anything done at the moment is insane we have just completed a home renovation and carpentry was by far the biggest outlay.

I agree with others that it was all a bit contrived to be on tv don't think any of it was genuine. I also think she doesn't have the first clue about styling and managing her home every room was so bitty and you had no idea what it was trying to be. They need to invest in an interior designer

Catnary · 03/02/2023 10:14

Watched it last night. I thought it was really funny when the kid at the end rolled his eyes and said “I hate the pink!”.

The house generally seemed really unloved and like they had never really tried to decorate and furnish properly, for someone who was quite stylish in how she dressed, Sarah didn’t seem to have much of a clue about interior design. I am surprised that they weren’t a bit embarrassed to show that the girl had been sleeping in a box room with a mattress on the floor. The changes did make a difference, things like the media unit finishing off the TV that was previously hung a bit randomly on the wall. I’ve got a box room turned into a walk in wardrobe with IKEA units, did it myself- mine is much better!

O thought they seemed nice enough as a family though, fair play to them if this got them more TV work, I mean let’s face it, most people would not dream of going on TV and having their house scrutinised, it must be hard for the producers to find people to entertain us!

LadyEloise1 · 03/02/2023 11:32

As @Catnary says ".......it must be hard for producers to find people to entertain us ! "

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/02/2023 14:27

Finally seen

Those space saver stairs

Weird !!!

Glad someone explained the lookers to me as didn't understand what everyone was found on about

I don't think Sarah looks that much like Meghan. Or is they just me 😂

Weird to have the whole family in an ad

And yes washing could have gone in living room/office /games room

Or up in the loft as heat rises

Thought this episode was particularly crap - "do you want to move or stay in the house that we just made 1 bedroom smaller and added a load of IKEA storage"

For 10k I could have done better, and I don't often think that.

@Pr0fessionalLurker well when you put it like that 😂😂😂😂

And lost 12inches off theIr bed 😱😱😱

also don’t get why son Had the living room as a games room. Why dudnt he have his console in his bedroom

and make the 3rd small bedroom an office. Not a dressing room

OP posts:
Delatron · 03/02/2023 15:19

Why would you prioritise a games room when you are so short on space? You’d give up your entire living room? None of it makes sense!

I would only have a games room if I lived in a mansion. Hell they would have been better off turning the front room in to a bedroom.

Matey chops could work from the kitchen.
He seemed to be perfectly happy with the house. In his office/games room whilst she had zero wardrobe space.

Delatron · 03/02/2023 15:20

Kirsty normally comes up with good suggestions. Why did she not suggest they maybe don’t have a games room? It’s like she gave up on them!

I don't think Kirsty had much choice. She got them a plan to add a utility and shower room, but in the event they actually spent £5,000 didn't they, not ten? It was the Ikea storage units on the kitchen wall and a couple of wardrobe doors across alcoves in the front room, but none on the actual wardrobes, or did they put proper wardrobes in the new dressing room too? I forget as my attention was drawn by the curtains for wardrobes in their bedroom and the fact they'd downsized their bed so drastically.

They were effectively living in one room still, with one loo and nowhere out of the way for the laundry, allegedly adding £10,000 of value to the house, which I just don't believe. They didn't mention any before or after professional valuations, probably houses in that area had gone up a bit regardless.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/02/2023 17:24

My heart bleeds for them with one toilet

A family of 4 having to share a bathroom

How vulgar !!

OP posts:
dazzlingdeborahrose · 03/02/2023 18:06

They didn't need Kirstie and Phil. They needed Stacey Solomon and a good tidy up.

LillianGish · 03/02/2023 18:54

Exactly. You could see Sarah was hoping that Kirsty would sort out her wardrobe with her, but Kirsty was clearly only there for a quick photo op while she sorted the first items.

Noseylittlemoo · 03/02/2023 19:13

The whole format changed with this episode once they decided they didn't want to spend money! Instead of Kirstie having the brief of how can we improve this house to work for your family's needs- it turned into what do you need to do to fit your family into a house that's too small . Buy a smaller bed, get rid of lots of your stuff and build a few cupboards to disguise the fact that you haven't got enough room. The 'transformation ' was underwhelming to say the least.
I didn't twig when I was watching it but I think PPs are right about it being more about getting their faces on TV.

NCTDN · 03/02/2023 19:57

Where did Sarah keep all her Meghan clothes? Surely they'd take loads of space!

lieselotte · 06/02/2023 12:29

There used to be advertising rules against anyone in a programme being linked to any ad breaks during that show. That changed a while back though I think. It just seemed dreadfully odd and a cynical ploy

I thought those rules were still in place. But maybe only for Kirstie and Phil as presenters, not for people featured in the programme.

lieselotte · 06/02/2023 12:40

I agree - why on earth wouldn't you squeeze in a second loo somewhere?

I know the presenters of Sunday Brunch seem to do some advertising work for Lidl in the breaks. Lidl sponsor the programme.

Not particularly clear on details though.

WhatsitWiggle · 06/02/2023 19:34

@lieselotte @Fizbosshoes look at my post further up, their original planning permission had a side extension to include shower room and utility back in 2020. I can only imagine that their building costs rocketed and they had to cut back their plans urgently, meaning no time to adjust the interior plans.
