Thanks @Jessesgirl13. I'm guessing the children go to altrincham way schools from what was said.
I also thought that the front still looked a mess and the washing would still be out drying!

NCTDN · 01/02/2023 21:51

And there's no way I'd go to a smaller bed!

Had the same thought about the washing! They could have put it in the small sitting room/games room/office.

I said that to DH. Woah there Nelly - that’s a stretch too far!

RabbitHoleOfHell · 01/02/2023 22:06

Thelwall - Warrington, surely? Still Cheshire but definitely not in the Altrincham (or Trafford) school catchment area! Hellish trip up the M56 every morning if they’re sending their DC to private prep primary schools in Alty. Sounds like they’ve succumbed to WAG style Cheshire Pressure. Shark jumping comes to mind. Plenty of house building/extending going on around Cheshire & no signs of a slow down.

Barley Road Thelwall WA4 according to public records

NotPennysBoat · 01/02/2023 22:20

My nephew is in the same class as her daughter. Yes Altrincham way but not private, and very difficult to get into so no idea how they've managed it!

Catnary · 01/02/2023 22:21

What are “Lookers” cars? Is it a brand like Vauxhall? I’ve never heard of it.

Rummikub · 01/02/2023 22:30

A car dealership.

Ooh, good detective work! This is the house, similar are worth around £350k so I don't believe they had any intention of doing work or moving and it was just a way to raise their profile - both the mum and daughter act.

Interestingly, they applied for planning permission in July 2020 and that included a side extension for a shower room and utility. Looks like the quotes were too expensive, so rather than redo the plans, they just went ahead with the huge kitchen / diner and bifolds.

(She also earns 'thousands' as a Megan Markle looky-likey apparently)

I thought she looked like her as I was watching.

Turmerictolly · 02/02/2023 09:02

Another disappointing episode. I didn't like the storage on the kitchen (over 4k for MDF boxes!) or in the lounge but I guess they didn't want to spend too much knowing they'd be moving eventually. I loved that second detached house that Phil showed them - very stylish and great value at £500k compared to the South.

We didn't get the Lookers ads - must be different ads in different parts of the country. Good on them for capitalising on the show. They said at the beginning that he was a cinematographer and she was an actress. I too thought she looked like Meghan M.

Pr0fessionalLurker · 02/02/2023 09:15

I couldn't believe it when they said that the storage was a bargain at only £4k! What a rip off.
Thought this episode was particularly crap - "do you want to move or stay in the house that we just made 1 bedroom smaller and added a load of IKEA storage"

For 10k I could have done better, and I don't often think that.

LillianGish · 02/02/2023 10:28

They basically tidied up! And still they didn't properly tidy up the front of the house. I thought Kirsty slightly alluded to that when she said something about their problem being one of time and having so much going on (sub-text - you need to make time for your home too). Location conundrums are interesting (especially in view of LLL where location is really key). Gorgeous house in an inconvenient or even rough area is not going to be appealing to those in the know even if it looks like an obvious upgrade to viewers who know no better. I thought the first house Phil showed them looked great and for a good price. I think PP are right that they wanted to be on TV more than they wanted to move.

FrenchandSaunders · 02/02/2023 10:32

The first house was gorgeous. Wasn’t keen on theirs before or after.

Delatron · 02/02/2023 11:39

Their house was such a mess when they first showed it - you’d have thought they’d have had a tidy up. Still nowhere to hang the laundry so nothing changed there. Loft room and crap stairs still the same.

There was zero point in spending £10k on a few cupboards. The house is clearly too small for them and they desperately need to move. They could get more for their money if they changed area.

I think she wants to move and he doesn’t give a shit about the laundry everywhere and lack of clothes space since he’s happy using the living room as his office. Selfish!

longtompot · 02/02/2023 11:53

I said to ed 'she looks like MM!' and then find out from here that's she is a look a like. I also said to her that it was them in the ad! That was so bizarre.
I didn't like her at the start when she said she had put the house on the market twice without her partner knowing.
Anyway, it didn't matter how lovely a house Phil found them, unless they could sell theirs they wouldn't be going anywhere. They should have spent the money on the utility extension as they still have the issue of only one bathroom and washing everywhere. The front drive was still full of weeds, and they didn't pan down enough to see if the letterbox had been replaced or just fixed.

On the other extreme, I caught a bit of million pound builds or something where the owner, I assume, was just swearing about everything and the builders were trying to install huge glass units and nearly broke them. The guys vision of a moody cloudy sky above his indoor pool was amazing though.

whereeverilaymycat · 02/02/2023 14:01

It's been quite a disappointing series so far. I think they've got a challenge at the moment with costs to build and the cost of borrowing to improve / move.
If people are prepared to do a big project, then the cost to do it (assuming it's not from cash savings) is double whammy. The work/ materials are more costly and the borrowing costs more per month too. Then if prices are adjusting, can you actually make that outlay back.
It must be really frustrating all round, as this weeks house did have plenty of potential they couldn't utilise.

themessygarden · 02/02/2023 16:11

I think they had purposely messed up the house, thrown stuff around, left lots of things randomly on the floor for the before images. Then a bit of tidy up, moved out some furniture, they only have 3 bar stools for a family of 4 and downsized the bed, added a bit of Ikea storage and voila Phil and Kirsty have done their job.

Agree, this season is so disappointing.

Yes I think you’re right. It looked so awful at the beginning with mess everywhere that a good tidy makes all the difference. Can’t believe they thought dropping down to a double bed was a good solution. Feels like we were taken for a ride. Disappointing episode.

I agree.
If Kirsty and Phil were calling to my house with a film crew in tow I would have made some effort to tidy it.

Who'd go for a double bed after having a super king or king size bed !!!!!

They needed a utility room and downstairs loo.
False economy spending on all the shelving.

The viewers were definitely taken for a ride. A couple of hundred quid spent on sprucing up the front of the house would've made the most difference, not a series of ugly storage boxes and shoving your daughter up in the loft. She'd be back in a proper bedroom as soon as the cameras were away, or she should be.

I didn't clock a resemblance to Meghan Markle, but I did do a woooah double take at the Lookers' advert. There used to be advertising rules against anyone in a programme being linked to any ad breaks during that show. That changed a while back though I think. It just seemed dreadfully odd and a cynical ploy.

I reckon they spent all their money on an ill planned kitchen that didn't actually address their needs and then thought damn, we could've got on a TV show doing this. Plan B was a bit of a spoof. They spent £5,000 and added £10,000 to the value, yeah right. As for 'we're going to list it, but not yet' doesn't mean diddly really.

All the houses they went to see were much more suitable, unless location ruled them out. Nothing seemed genuine to me.

Rummikub · 02/02/2023 20:12

Watching it now on 47. Sarah and jabbz. I can’t decide if she looks much like MM.

NCTDN · 02/02/2023 20:50

I want to see the lookers advert, but because I watched it on all 4, it now skips past the adverts! The one and only time I want to watch them Grin
