E6

Lexie and Ed's 4 bedroom one bath in Mottingham is too small for their family of 6

Ed wants to move

Lexie loves the location.

I actually like the house tbh.

But tbf, I'm with Ed and think they just need a bigger house with 2 bathrooms!

Meredusoleil · 08/02/2023 20:23

Loving this 1st house!

kindlyensure · 08/02/2023 20:23

I don't know why Phil tends to show houses that are well under budget - it's such a hassle to move, might as well make it worth while and get as much space as you can.

Andanotherone01 · 08/02/2023 20:28

Argh! Another pointless episode because no one is willing to spend on a build (can’t blame them). Channel 4 are going to need to reevaluate this show

I agree.

Loving the 2nd house too!

Easily pleased me 😂

Jessesgirl13 · 08/02/2023 20:30

These guys definitely just need a bigger house - Phil's first offering was much more suitable than their current house!

Same issue again with the build being scaled back due to costs!

Turmerictolly · 08/02/2023 20:36

Disappointing again - another build scaled back to a bit of storage and a garden room. This family need to move so badly. There's no way that house will be big enough for them all in a few years. Really cute kids.

I liked the new builds but they're too cheap and small - why not show them something larger up to, and a bit beyond their budget?

Romeiswheretheheartis · 08/02/2023 20:36

The concept of the programme doesn't work, I don't think. They won't spend too much on the work incase they still then sell, but that just means the 'love it' side is never going to be satisfied. It seems to be more of a Love it and list it' than 'Love it or list it'.

redundantsoon · 08/02/2023 20:42

Yeah, disappointing. I think they need to move to a bigger house.

Having kids toys/crafts outside in a hut will be a pain in reality.

Meredusoleil · 08/02/2023 20:47

This last house is more than perfect for them. I hope they buy it!

redundantsoon · 08/02/2023 20:54

My mistake, I didn’t realise there’d be toy storage inside the house.

I personally don’t like it. I think the dining area is too small.

Turmerictolly · 08/02/2023 21:00

Garden rooms were good but I can imagine there'd be noise from the kids playing next door and would they really be traipsing out there in the cold/rain/mud? Didn't like the living room storage - not a very nice colour imo. I think they'd have been better off saving the money and moving but at least the house gained some value.

Pr0fessionalLurker · 08/02/2023 21:15

All problems can be solved with some makeshift shelves in a window for multicoloured glasses. Makes you forget your house can't house all of your children and you have to piss in the sink.

martinisforeveryone · 08/02/2023 21:16

When the main issues are a lack of additional bath or shower room and toilet, or more bedroom space needed, putting extra wardrobes in the living room doesn't really do it for me. The cost of materials and building labour has really snookered home improvements and extensions though.

LillianGish · 08/02/2023 21:50

Another unsatisfactory episode- 20 grand for a glorified shed and still no extra loo (I’m surprised Kirsty didn’t suggest one outside- I seem to remember she used to be a big fan of outside loos!). I was imagine six of them traipsing back through the garden and upstairs every time someone needed a wee. I agree that this programme no longer works - it’s now cheaper to move than extend. I think the idea that what is essentially a bit of carpentry is going to add tens of thousands us just nonsense. It’s a shame because this used to be my favourite property show - I love Kirsty’s redesigns.

FrenchandSaunders · 08/02/2023 22:14

The new houses are ok inside but so overlooked!! I’d hate to sit in my garden with all those windows looking over it.

Fizbosshoes · 08/02/2023 23:31

We haven't had any building work done for years but I'm amazed if spending (or willing to spend) around 35k there wasn't room in the budget to squeeze in a downstairs loo....but admittedly I don't know how much it costs for the plumbing etc.
I wasn't wowed by the home makeover though, although I liked the garden office

Dulra · 09/02/2023 08:57

20 grand for a glorified shed and still no extra loo
Really surprised they didn't include one in the garden room. My brother got one done recently with a toilet and shower in it. I also wonder would they have been better off using one of the compares that specialise in them, you pick what you want off a brochure and they come and build them, think it would have worked out cheaper and possibly better designed.

We have just finished a full house renovation bought the house during lockdown knowing it needed renovating and by the time we got plans, planning etc. done prices through the roof. It was so stressful no one could guarantee a price from one day to the next, you were putting deposits down straight away to hold the price. Would not have done it if we didn't have to and we spent way more than originally thought not because of going for higher specs or anything. We have a gorgeous house now but it does still hurt when I find out what neighbours paid a few years ago for similar 😭

lieselotte · 09/02/2023 10:13

Garden rooms are good, I am working in one myself. But given they built a slightly bigger one to make two rooms, they could have easily put a loo in it. We could have had one in ours but it's a bit small and we have a downstairs loo right by the back door opposite so didn't need it.

But they could never have solved the issue of too few bedrooms.

The bedrooms in the new/nearly new-builds Phil showed them were mainly tiny.

lieselotte · 09/02/2023 10:14

I think it was one of the better episodes of the series as they at least did something, and garden rooms are a cost effective way of adding more space.

lieselotte · 09/02/2023 10:15

When I saw the size of the garden I thought a garden room might be part of the solution.

WingingItSince1973 · 09/02/2023 10:57

Why couldn't they have knocked the wall from kitchen into dining room area to make a big family room then create a smaller cosy snug area in the lounge? Was it too expensive in the end? I didn't like the fridge position and the tiny galley dining area. Would be so cramped when everyone in. The dining area of the lounge looked odd being bare. The lounge area looked like a children's nursery with those colours. Obviously each to their own but it just was disappointing compared to previous series. It's true prices for materials have gone up so much as my dh is in the business and wood for instance is expensive now.

Antaboo · 09/02/2023 19:50

Disappointing episode once again, six bums and one loo ☹️☹️☹️

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2023 21:36

Finally seen avoided till now

Guess it's hard planning a 3rd child and having 2 more

I didn't get why they didn't extend Across living room to make a bigger kitchen so over their patio

Then build above kitchen /diner for the 5th bedroom

The dads study was bigger then twins bedroom

So I would have put dad in there if had to have an office.

Or even in his own bedroom. It was only a desk and then 3 bedrooms for kids

The new house I was suprised how big the garden was. Usually new build are tiny
