I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

lol about the press gang guy. that was my first thought. in fact, my ongoing thought about him...he's not aged at all, and his press on 'tache was silly!

i enjoyed last night....i'm getting really worried though (and only since reading this thread!!) that the crap us ending might happen here too....has anyone here seen the us version? is it the same, or could it be different?

ChildOfThe70s · 01/05/2010 09:33

After last nights episode I am more confused than ever! I can't see how they are going to tie everything up before the end of the series and I fear the ending might be disappointing ..

But does anyone know why Alex is not mentioning Molly, or getting messages from Molly? She doesn't seem desperate to get back to reality like she did last series.

MadameOvary · 01/05/2010 09:46

I thought it was getting a bit disjointed too, HFD, though last night it was much, much more involving and easy to immerse myself.

EVye · 01/05/2010 09:50

Theory on digital spy about lily being simbolic of death

mumdebump · 01/05/2010 10:36

Lytton was also in Catherine Tate show (one of the couple who says 'you never?' & 'what are you like?')
Not sure I liked last night's episode. Am worried it's all building up for a crappy US ending. If it does I'll be complaining to the Beeb.

Anniek · 01/05/2010 11:33

If they did make the US ending of LOM as the ending for A2A I would be disgusted...

It was shocking!

Am hoping though that the writers know that most UK viewers thought of the US LOM ending, and just threw the astronaut line in to have a bit of fun!

Still think Gene and Keats are some sort of good angel of death and bad angel, and people in comma's Shaz, Ray, Alex and Chris have to make a choice, and poor old Chris didn't have a LOM moment because he has chosen Keats over Hunt!

Yes I am leaning towards your explanation Anniek. Not sure how they will explain the Sam Tyler stuff. Hope John Simm appears in the last episode even if only briefly .

HighFibreDiet · 01/05/2010 11:51

Incidentally, I found out last night that the original idea for Life on Mars was based on a Mark Twain story (A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court) - has anyone read it?

KayHarker · 01/05/2010 12:21

The astronaut line was a gag - Matthew Graham has been on the Railway Arms himself to say how much he hated the US ending - fear not, they are not all astronauts.

MadameOvary · 01/05/2010 12:23

Kay I am so glad!

Anniek · 01/05/2010 12:46

Thanks for that Kay

Unless he lied [evil]

No, I read it myself and I think he mentioned it at a sci fi conference too.

bellissima · 01/05/2010 14:54

Cavemum - but surely there was a Sam body in 2006 - when he jumped? After all Alex knows all about his debrief with the psychologist and his subsequent death, before she gets shot. That to me is why they never found his body in 1980 - the old time-space continuum - can't have two dead Sams. But if Sam was actually dead or in pre-death 'limbo'/coma from the time that he was hit by the car, how come the alive pre-shot Alex knows of notes written by an 'alive' post-coma Sam?

(yes, yes, it's only a TV show)

KayHarker · 01/05/2010 15:06

Maybe Sam isn't really dead, except in 200blah. Maybe someone faked his death in the genieverse bollocks speculation

Ffrecklefface · 01/05/2010 15:40

Loving the theories on this thread. I annoyed the shit out of Bloke last night by 'what if'ing all the way through. Part of me is terrified that Gene really has done something really terrible, and we have all been double bluffed into loving the bad guy.

Best theory I've heard came from my mother on the phone this morning. 'I think she's dreaming it all.' She's really put a lot of imagination into that one...

gingercat12 · 01/05/2010 18:02

I have just read the US ending. Hope you are right and we'll not get that

CaveMum · 01/05/2010 18:13

bellisima didn't Sam "live" in the 70s for a few years after he jumped in 2006? I'm sure they said he married Annie and he only "died" in 1980 according to A2A which is 2 or 3 years after he arrived. Unless time is not a constant.

Hmm brain hurts now!

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/05/2010 18:17

I was wondering about the number plate on the Audi again... It's JLY 751V, if I'm correct and we were all wondering if it was 4th July 1975 but what if it's July 7th '56 or July 7th '65 (if you add the 1 to the 5 and then use the V as 5 converting from Roman Numeral). I was wondering how old that police uniform was on the policeman that Alex kept seeing? If it's 50s or 60s perhaps that might be significant?

Also, no showing from the decayed policeman yesterday evening (unless I missed it).

There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/05/2010 21:38

I lost my heart to a starship trooper...

Hermya321 · 01/05/2010 21:41

Talking to DH and he said you get the feeling that theres some epic battle going on and that the lines are being drawn. The whole thing where Linton says, 'theres only a few of us left'.

I personally think that Sam going back has upset some kind of fragile balance and that Gene had to sort it out. The thing is, if everyone finds out the truth they'll all a bit mad like Bevan.

Plus Alex didn't go back of her own accord, she was literally taken, arrested and shoved in a cell.

Maybe thats what this is, Sam tore a hole in their little world and now they're battling over it.

Hermya321 · 01/05/2010 21:49

Also did anyone notice at the end of the episode when Gene was standing in his office, there was a reflection in the window of the Custody Sgt's stripes on his sleeve that ended up being sort of transposed onto Gene's arm.

Maybe he was a Sgt when dead PC died, I felt it was significant when Keats was going on about the superiors being responsible for their minions so to speak.

HinnyPet · 02/05/2010 00:34

Ray? The poster is just before the upside down writing on the road...

Nymphadora · 02/05/2010 09:13
