Bit of a tv evening for me tonight! Anyone else watching?

TheCrackFox · 06/08/2009 21:47

I think it is a 2 bed flat.

diedandgonetodevon · 06/08/2009 21:47

No table, but large TV?

It's making me feel so cynical

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/08/2009 21:48

You'd normally want to put your children to bed before you so it's really selfish unpractical to let them sleep on the sofa. It makes no sense, the parents would disturb his sleep by either being up late/watching the TV or moving him into the living room when they went to bed. Odd!!

AitchTwoOh · 06/08/2009 21:49

oh dear. and if the dad is on night shift... so they can't bring the wee boy in with them? tough. mine are both light sleepers, we're just going to have to manage when they go in together.

hatesponge · 06/08/2009 21:49

and i totally agree re bedroom set up. there's no reason other than parents selfishness that the boys don't have a bedroom each & parents sleep on sofa. I know a few people who have done this to give DC a room each in a 2 bed home.

CloudDragon · 06/08/2009 21:49

Aitch - no but it makes her a selfish cow.

Celery · 06/08/2009 21:49

Agree, Aitchtwoh. I don't think we know the full story, they seem alright to me.

diedandgonetodevon · 06/08/2009 21:50

No Aitch, poverty doesn't equal sanctity but when the premise of the programme is to help the family overcome their difficulties and presumable inprove their lives you would hope they gave a little more thought to what they were going to spend the money on.
Once it's gone, it's gone and atm they don't have a lot to show for it.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/08/2009 21:51

I hate to be cynical but this one doesn't sound truthful to me. It's attempting to pull on the heartstrings but certain things don't wash, the holiday/sleeping arrangements. It's uneasy.

AitchTwoOh · 06/08/2009 21:51

she seemed to be genuinely embarrassed by her behaviour. i mean i don't warm to her, but she's in an awkward position, it might just bring out the worst in her.

nancy75 · 06/08/2009 21:51

i wonder if boy really sleeps in living room, or if it just comes across better - poor us our kid hasnt even got a room - after all if their sob story had been our 2 sons have to share a room, it wouldnt have caused too many raised eyebrows. this episode is really striking me that they are just out for all they can get.

MollieO · 06/08/2009 21:51

Well not long to go if there is another issue that they haven't mentioned so far. If there isn't then I think the mum is incredibly selfish.

OP posts:
LadyPinkofPinkerton · 06/08/2009 21:51

REally don't understand ehy the two boys can't share a room.

MollieO · 06/08/2009 21:53

I don't think she was embarrassed until her behaviour was pointed out to her several times [cynical emoticon].

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 06/08/2009 21:53

The sleeping arrangements make no sense. The older kid can't share a room with his younger brother because he is a light sleeper and will be distured - but being carried from his parents room every night to the sofa doesn't disturb him?

hippipotamiHasLost54lbs · 06/08/2009 21:53

I am so glad I found this thread. I loved last week's one, but this one leaves me feelign a bit hollow. The begging letters doen't sit well with me. Neither did the laptop.

Added to that their takehome is £1600 a month. Dh earns a basic rate of £1800 a month and we have to pay £750 mortgage out of that. And our children have clothes, schoolshoes and even hobbies. (but a 12 year old telly, 9 year old car and very limited holidays) And I consider us well off!

littleboyblue · 06/08/2009 21:53

Agree mollie

And that boy just said the sofa hurts his back

MollieO · 06/08/2009 21:54

Please will one of them ask why the parents can't sleep on the sofa bed? Pleeassseee!!

OP posts:
BrokenFlipFlop · 06/08/2009 21:55

Why would you spend £500 on a laptop but not think to spend a few pounds on extra cutlery?

I'm really not feeling comfortable and feel its been somewhat 'set up'. Have they explained why the 'poor' mother doesn't work?

MollieO · 06/08/2009 21:55

I thought they were buying new wardrobes?

That sofa bed is one designed for occasional use only not every night. Selfish selfish parents.

OP posts:
LadyPinkofPinkerton · 06/08/2009 21:55

Hippipoami totally agree about their money. Don't get where it all goes

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/08/2009 21:55

I have a suspicion that they will end up moving somewhere bigger by the end of the programme. There's alot of 'hints' in this one.

nancy75 · 06/08/2009 21:55

dont see what they think the rich family are going to do about the bedroom situation, they are hardly going to buy them a new house!

AitchTwoOh · 06/08/2009 21:55

we MUST have got it wrong abouth the wages, or maybe they've got loans or something. the figures don't really make sense.

CloudDragon · 06/08/2009 21:55

It sounds like his parents are telling him what to say
