and it's so fun to watch someone so detached from reality having such a swell time.

sazzerbear · 23/04/2009 22:30

her website is awful for somone in the media!
I'm off to make some wallpaper...

Merrylegs · 23/04/2009 22:30

OMG.

She lost her ring

She's renting her house

She has a Kirstie-World website

She buys her sandwiches at M&S in Hackney.

Already I know altogether far too much about the fragrant Ms Alsopp.

And yet... I feel I want to know more.

Bring on next week's bunting.

GooseyLoosey · 23/04/2009 22:32

Its nice enough for a holiday cottage, but for that price, I would be looking for serious luxury and that house just does not have it.

sazzerbear · 23/04/2009 22:34

Totally agree Merrylegs, I am ordering on being a little obsessive with it! I want to live in Kirstie World!

sazzerbear · 23/04/2009 22:36

i meant bordering...must log off

JustCallMeGoat · 23/04/2009 22:37

dd got out of bed and watched it. she enjoyed it enormously and we will be making wallpaper tomorrow. also kirstie is 'always pretty and looks like a princess' according to dd.

heuchera · 24/04/2009 09:56

Good grief. I know this is a bit off-topic, but have just Googled THAT ring. According to Princess Kirstie, it's a 33-carat Spinel (not a ruby it seems).

A story on the Times website says that natural spinels can go for more than £698...PER CARAT.

So no wonder she's distraught she's lost it...

expatinscotland · 24/04/2009 10:33

Actually, I liked Princess Di's engagement ring better. Yeah, it was big, but not so big it didn't suit her (she was a tall lady, anyhow).

OP posts:
Merrylegs · 24/04/2009 10:42

Poor Kirstie.

Maybe she can fashion a new one using a soldering iron and candle wax.

at Princess Kirstie,

(She is so pretty though).

sazzerbear - how about we join forces and rent out Meadowview or whatever it's called. We can swan about pretending to be the Hon one.

It would be altogether too lovely.

frogs · 24/04/2009 10:48

If she's going to rent it out as a holiday let with all that lovely stuff in it, and seriously think that it's not going to get trashed then she is sorely misguided. Especially since it's had so much publicity.

Lots of my mum's friends let flats and cottages in that area, some also through Helpful Holidays (who are a v. good company btw) and the stories I've heard about the state that perfectly pleasant people can leave a rental cottage in would make you .

Bettymum · 24/04/2009 11:00

I heart Kirstie.
I want to make my own screenprinted (wipeable) wallpaper for my downstairs loo. But not that dreadful gold and black pattern. I thought she was going to have one or two panels of it, not cover every wall in the stuff.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 24/04/2009 12:07

Ooh goody, I thought it was just me who thought the wallpaper was dreadful and the downstairs loo complete with Country Life (purlease!) was hideous. I can only guess how much that paper cost though.

I did like the stained glass, though, and candle making and screen printing does get your head thinking. But having just sloshed some of DS's paints over 4 cheapo stretched canvases, I have to say, I think I'm wayyy more talented than the normally divine Kirstie.

As for Anoushka's pad. This is what happens when an "actress" from some well dodgy 70s movies marries an enormously filthy rich City guy! Questionable taste plus too much money.

One final question. I loved Kirstie's dresses. Where do you think they came from? I want them all!!!!!

Stayingsunnygirl · 24/04/2009 12:30

I do want to have a go at candle making and stained glass/fused glass work. I'm going to see if I can find some courses near me.

But that wallpaper? Nooooooo!!! I think it would give you a migraine!

And she may be doing up the house 'on a budget' - but it's a jolly big budget.

I'll be watching next week, though.

noddyholder · 24/04/2009 12:36

The wallpaper was really badly put on considering what it cost.I could see all the joins.I like hand screened paper but hers was shoddy attempt.I can't believe this is meant to be a make do and mend ethos

scrappydappydoo · 24/04/2009 12:52

Hated the wallpaper - too overbearing. Am really at the poster in the playroom - can't wait til next week for her to explain why she thinks its appropriate for a childrens playroom..
I also agree about renting it out - its going to get trashed which regardless whether I agree with her budget, taste etc would be be very sad as she has worked at putting it all together

expatinscotland · 24/04/2009 12:56

Why is this Anoushka-fake-looking hag famous?

I've seen insane people with better taste?

I couldn't bear looking at that woman, it's like looking at a circus freak or Wacko Jacko, too much plastic surgery.

OP posts:
Botbot · 24/04/2009 12:57

I quite like Kirstie and quite enjoy the programme, but it's so obvious that it's the result of a panicked meeting of Channel 4 programme planners: 'shit! There's a recession! What can we do with Kirstie now?' So they've attempted to rebrand her as a thrifty, make-do-and-mend-type guru but it just doesn't wash, given that she is essentially a very wealthy person with World of Interiors-type taste and whose property programmes probably single-handedly caused the recession in the first place. I doubt there will be a second series.

[Coming next: Sarah Beeny opens a smallholding]

noddyholder · 24/04/2009 13:01

The poster is iconic but kirstie is no not rock and roll it looks ridiculous.Expat at your view of ms hempel

expatinscotland · 24/04/2009 13:04

Seriously, noddy, I was really amped up when Kirstie said that Anoushka rarely allows her house to be filmed and the second I saw it I thought, 'God, I wouldn't let anyone in, either, how embarrassing!' Like Dubai on meth amphetemine. Gawdy.

OP posts:
noddyholder · 24/04/2009 13:08

I agree gawdy masquerading as bohemian.

Botbot · 24/04/2009 13:09

and patently not cheap to achieve (should you ever want to), whatever freakwoman says.

expatinscotland · 24/04/2009 13:10

I just wanted to see the inside of my sunglasses, her taste was so bad.

And TOO MUCH stuff in those bathrooms. FGS, those rooms were busy enough as it was without all that crap all over every surface, and all the same colour blending into the wall like warped Alice in Wonderland setting.

OP posts:
Botbot · 24/04/2009 13:14

And that rancid gold shelfy thing on the wall! I'm all for a bit of vintage, but that was well over the top.

noddyholder · 24/04/2009 13:15

Not for living there were a load of tassley candles on the sink which would be covered in toothpaste and soap after 5 mins here and I do like a bit of house bling! But that was 'I'm so eccentric indulge me' taken to extremes

Bettymum · 24/04/2009 13:18

ROFL at Sarah Beeny's smallholding programme. I would watch that. I heart Sarah Beeny too, but she really must stop using those dodgy home-highlighting kits.
