Yuk to that hard ravoli with the hard egg inside!

And rabbit with melon - WTF?

Would be better if they chose four from nights when they were all good, and only one or two from nights when they are not so good.

Aniyan · 21/01/2009 22:27

DP and I have discussed this at length and I reckon that the top three each night should be scored somehow, and the top 4 from the whole week's heats go through to the weekly final. That way, if you have a crap heat, and a heat with 2 great people in, the 2 good ones get to go through, and no-one from the crap heat gets to go through.

I also HATE the 'identify this ingredient and waffle on about your passion for food' test thing - complete waste of time.

Yes - I know I need to get out more

foxinsocks · 22/01/2009 08:15

I know what you mean Aniyan.

I'm sure they used to do a wild card thing. I think they should do that again where they let 1 or 2 people through from these heats who they think deserve to be there because there have been some very strong contenders who have been ruled out because they've been in a strong heat.

I also don't like it when they eliminate someone after the food and motivation thing.

MrsMuddle · 22/01/2009 09:23

The motivation speech just makes me want to hide behind the sofa and put my fingers in my ears. I think it's SO cringeworthy.

Why bother? They're all going to say basically the same.

"Cooking is my passion." "It's what I dream about." "To win Masterchef would be a dream come true." "I know I can do this." Yaddah, yaddah...

OllieWollieWoo · 22/01/2009 20:51

at blondie's shorts!!!!! Was her game plan to wow J&G with her pins????

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/01/2009 20:52

His food looks lovely

OllieWollieWoo · 22/01/2009 20:54

That bread and butter pudding looks yummy!

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/01/2009 21:27

noooooooo, it should have been Anna

OP posts:
PlainOldPeachy · 22/01/2009 21:28

I know Ollie, how odd an outfit was that?

Agree about Anna.

MommyHasaHeadache · 22/01/2009 21:37

Very stange outfit - liked her food though - original! I thought Anna would win too.

Molesworth · 22/01/2009 22:43

Meathead's scallops looked and sounded amazing: I think his dishes were more complex and original than Anna's, although her pudding did look bloody delish.

Shorts woman's fry up also looked wonderful. Nice idea to do a brunch menu.

elliott · 23/01/2009 09:36

I thought anna's food lacked imagination. However, I'm starting to get annoyed now at the total lack of transparency as to how they assess people - yesterday I have no idea how they came to the conclusions they did. I mean we can't taste the food, so give us some idea WHY they were ranked as they were? They can't ALL have been 'one of the best cooks we've seen in years' can they?
Agree also that there should be a 'strongest loser' allowed through too.

Molesworth · 23/01/2009 10:31

I agree - I think Aniyan's idea to score the candidates over the week so that the strongest go through is excellent.

Aniyan · 23/01/2009 10:47

Aw shucks - thanks Molesworth

Jenbot · 23/01/2009 11:31

They have people who were good but couldn't be put through from last series as wildcards don't they?

mrsmaidamess · 23/01/2009 13:46

Has anyone mentioned how scallops seem to be the ingredient du jour in every flipping contestants repertoire?

I am sick of seeing scallops! Especially how John pronounces it *"Scol-lops"

I need to get out more too.

FimboRabbieBurns · 23/01/2009 13:54

One word - Belinda???!!

Was she on a fashion show or a cooking show?

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2009 13:59

I hate the way John says pars-ta,yes I know it's the antipodian way, but...

OP posts:
mrsmaidamess · 23/01/2009 14:01

Fimbo I reckon she was definitely hoping the hot pants/long legs combo would clinch it. I liked her brunch though.

FimboRabbieBurns · 23/01/2009 14:09

I think I was rather jealous of her actually........

Is Gregg gay?

I hate the way John says pasta too MAS.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2009 14:15

no don't think he is,he has a child I think (not that that's any proof) and I think a history of girl friends...

OP posts:
FimboRabbieBurns · 23/01/2009 14:21

Well my thoughts were he is either gay or Jack the Lad

He wears a signet ring on his middle finger which is another pet hate.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2009 14:39

and v necked t shirts

OP posts:
slug · 23/01/2009 14:46

I always laugh at "This is going to be the hardest thing they've ever done" bit about cooking in a professional kitchen.

What you actually get is proof that, with a little bit of training, anyone can turn out professional dishes.

PlainOldPeachy · 23/01/2009 15:46

I like Dh in a ve necked t shirt lol

and after 4 kids I'd be surprised if he were gay! or ahd time to be a Jack the Lad ofr that matter LOL

I also LOL at 'this will be the hardest...' really? have none of them had any form of life, then?
